In theory, on October 2003, Facebook actually started from the idea of Facemash. Facemash uploaded by Mark Zuckerberg was only available for Harvard students where they compared two students and stated whether they were hot or not. Mark was able to upload more student pictures by hacking into the Harvard database where student profiles were contained. However, day’s later outraged students demanded Zuckerberg shut down the site. But one thing was clear, people like to go on the Internet and check out pictures of their friends. What's not clear was that Zuckerberg was also working on another site called HarvardConnection.com for Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narendra who later sued Mark for allegedly stealing their idea with the creation of Facebook.

In the 70’s, Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs) and Usernets were prime communication. BBS is considered the first site that allowed internet users to interact with each other. However, users would have to use a dial-up connection and only one at a time could access the BBS. While Usernets were slightly different. This was a system that allowed users to post articles to newsgroups. Into the 80’s Online Services were created, such as CompuServe, Prodigy and the well-known AOL. The popular site, Facebook.com, has amassed more than one billion registrants since it started in February 2004. It is another social networking site, just like MySpace.com and Xanga.com, which is common to High School and College students. But this is no ordinary site; people’s lives literally revolve around Facebook. I have a Facebook account and log in at least once a day. I personally believe that Facebook is a fun and interactive site. However, some students may not feel that same way because they have encountered some negative aspects, aside from Facebook’s legal problems.
