Cellphone use time and time again has been thought by teachers and adults to affect the learning ability and it distracts them but does it? Cellphone should left up to the students and no one else because if there assignments don't get done then its on the student and not the instructor. Many believe that if you ban the phones in schools and in learning areas then the students will learn but there is no substantial evidence. An article written by Kevin Hart said “Many teachers say cell phones have officially replaced chewing gum as the new classroom menace(Hart).” Millions have addressed banning the cellphone use, in learning areas such as school and work areas. The reason for this would be because the teachers or instructor believe that …show more content…
Students as well as teachers have a life as well, but what if your work call asking if you can come in earlier? What if your mom texts asking what you want dinner? What then? Does the school take care of any and every situation that happens because most teachers believe that if there is a major issue then that parent should call the school and deliver the message instead of the student checking his/her phone in class? In colleges they are much more lenient then a high school because if the student fails a college class then the professor knows why, its because he/she was on a electronic device. Students at a college took a survey to see what there cell phone use was and most of them used there cellphones all day in every part of the day. This doesn't mean these are bad students by any means, it just means that they use there cellular devices often for important reasons most likely. These college students that have taken this survey are passing the courses they are enrolled in because they want and need to pass in order to be successful and they know that. These students know when to get off there phones and focus but many still believe that phones are the “devil.” Many teachers now are looking into lesson plans that include the phone use for the better because whats better then a student who wants to learn? Teachers are making new …show more content…
College students usually are passionate about what they are learning after getting out of high school because everything they learned in high school was forced upon them. Everyone in college chooses there career path and chooses what they want to learn in college. Students use there phone in class as a get away from learning and a relaxation from home stress or work stress. Teachers don't understand the levels on stress that an average student has because they have to try and be the perfect student for there parents and be the perfect worker for there work. Technology continues to grow and we seem to be in the middle of the technological revolution because over 80% of the population in The United States of American tend to use texting or some other form of chat system more than in person contact. This has benefited a lot though because we can be able to find out in an instant what is going on all around the world and still the teachers ad adults tend to think that cellphones and technology is the death of humanity. Many college students believe for the generations under them that it should be up to them to be on there cellphones because there are no studies that say cellphone use affect learning in schools. Many students actually believe that the reason they fail is because of other students in class not because of there phones. Many
Technology has been slowly integrated into the classroom for many years now. Some may be older than others, but they have all seemed to make the learning and teaching process much easier and more effective. Computers were introduced to the curriculum to help students better understand data collection, research, and word processing, and Power Points were even added to give visuals to lessons. Cell phones on the other hand have been given the cold shoulder, and even completely banned by some schools. According to the article, “Are We Dialing Up Disaster,” by George Engel and Tim Green, eighty-four percent of high school students report owning a cell phone and that number continues to increase (Engel 39).
According to Jack Tessier, in his article “Student Impressions of Academic Cell Phone Use in the Classroom”, said that, “Students felt that cell phone use helped their learning, was not a distraction, helped them enjoy the class, improved their attendance a little, and promoted their success” (Figure 1b). This means with the cell phone, people can see the difference in education between the past and the present day. For example, if ten years ago students had to bring books when they went to school, they are now able to read books directly on their phones because many famous technology companies such as Apple and Samsung have designed electronic books, better known as e-books. This is a great invention, since many books are able to be converted into an e-books. It is more convenient because I can read books easily through the cell
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
Cell phones are harming education and causing grades to be lower than what they could be. The other day I got out of class early in the business building, as I usually do. I was walking down the hallway, back to my dorm, as I walked across a classroom that I happened to look inside. As the professor was in the front of the classroom giving his lesson for that day, I noticed that about fifteen of twenty students had their phones out not paying one little ounce of attention to the professor. I do not know about you, but I can not read a status on Facebook and retain the information that my professor is giving me, but that is just me.
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Docksai, Rick. Teens and cell phones: cell phones can be noisy and distracting. But they can also be an aid to learning." The Futurist. Jan.-Feb.
Everyone likes to talk, listen and learn about new things. Todd Stark said “It’s up to the student whether or not they choose to spend class time listening and learning, or wasting their time on the phone.” The majority can afford phones now. Before they could do much more outdoor activities, they weren’t lazy like people in our society now. Everyone depends on themselves to do their own work or chores, not on others.
Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask...

... to catch up with their friends and will be able to make plans. Texting is to a high school student, as cooking is to a chef. Whenever you go you always see a group of kids with at least one on their phone if not more. Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it will create more drama, and it promotes cheating.
However, many teachers are seeking the benefits in cell phones and incorporating them into lessons and learning activities. The bring your own technology program a school created is encouraging students to bring their own smart phones, electronic tablets, and other devices to class to enhance their learning. Most cell phone bans were put in place over 10 years ago when they were first new to children and adults all around the world. There are many educational apps out there for students and teachers alike. People against cell phones being allowed in school may argue that students would be doing inappropriate things during class, however, to ensure that cell phones are used only for educational purposes, students could connect through the district’s network to limit exposure to harmful
Cell phones have only been in the picture for a short amount of time compared to how long people have been going to school but cell phones are everywhere now and make it difficult for schools to come up with what to do. As many believe they are a distraction and can be used for cheating and other negative stuff. There are also people that are highly in favor of having cellphones as they can be helpful with all the tools they provide and people who are not and it 's all about who makes a better argument. Cell phones used to just have communication abilities but that is far gone now you have the abilities to use apps and different functions that fit nicely into a school environment. Cell phones should be allowed in the classroom as cell phones provide positive benefits and are a helpful tool in learning.
Do you think cell phones are a distraction to kids and some adults? Well imagine if kids were allowed to use their cell phones during class. It would affect their education and get them off task with the internet to explore in. Then next thing you know their grades are dropping and then the phone is taking over your life at home and school. Sometimes not all the right answers are on the internet too, like Wikipedia, which people can edit the page and put whatever they would like to say. Plus cheating could be way easier and kids would take advantage of it. They could just text their friend in the same class and ask for what answers they got.
Given the unquestionable results regarding the use of cell phones by students in school there should not be a ban on the cell phones in schools. This is because students can learn to enhance their learning from the technology such as the cell phone. Students will also become more independent in their work and more motivated to learn. Students like being permitted to making their own choices.
First of all, students absolutely should not be permitted to use cell phones during school hours because it is a distraction to other students. This is an issue that plays a huge role on student’s lives because it takes away from their academic education. The s...
