Addiction is the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice; to something that is psychologically or physically a habit. Addiction can be a form of severe trauma. Being addicted to something is not a good idea, it can cause a lot of negative effects as well as affecting your personality and health. There are many people that have addiction to a variety of addiction forms. From the “okay” to “most gross”, here are some types of addiction freaks, you might come across one day. Some people might stop that habit due to practicing different methods but for others it might be impossible because of how addicted they are. Another one is exercising, people often think that it is very important to exercise day and night in order to maintain healthy and fit. Which is certainly not true. According to Rai Cornell’s paper, exercising past your limits can lead to Anorexia (an eating disorder) which leads to extreme amount of weight loss. Exercise is a common addiction but it has a lot of negative physical and psychological effects on the body. Then there’s the copper ring addiction. A woman named Sydney V. Smith had been addicted to copper rings. Since was inspired when she looked at the Paduang women of the Kayan tribes of Burma, she wanted her neck to be 12 inches long. Along the way she had many problems with it. For example, parking and eating because the movement in her neck was restricted. She motivated herself to keep the copper rings on her neck so she could have a long, strong neck. This was impossible because the doctors said that since she had stopped growing, her neck would no longer grow; it will only stretch her skin and whenever she plans to take it off her neck will be long but as time goes by her neck would come back to a normal size. First I’ll start with eating sand. That might sound very unusual, but a 19 year old named Brea says that, “My favorite sand is the sand from the playground … it’s natural, straight from the earth and it’s good and crunchy.” Believe it or not, if she doesn’t have playground sand then her next option is to nibble on nail files because apparently they give the same crunch (Strange addiction). This particularly didn’t affect her health in any way, but dipping your chips in sand is a bit odd. Did you ever see someone taking a bath in bleach? Well, 28 year old Gloria started bathing in bleach 3 years ago when she was pregnant with her 3rd child. According to Clorox, “Bleach kills any bacteria in the water before breaking down into salt and water. While this solution is safe to drink…bleach and water solution for bathing is not approved by the EPA and should not be done” (Clorox). In the future, Gloria could possibly get some of the side effects such as chronic skin infection, eczema and superbug MRSA. The only treatment really for this is to completely stop taking a bath with bleach to prevent those infections. The easy and simple way to stop this addiction is to take normal baths with pure water and body wash. There are those who eat sand and bathe in bleach.
