In religion, ethics, and philosophy the coexistence of good and evil is a very common dichotomy. In cultures with Manichaean and Abrahamic religious influence, evil is usually perceived as the paired antagonistic opposite of good, in which good should dominate and evil should be defeated. In cultures with Buddhist spiritual influence, both good and evil are perceived as part of an antagonistic pair that itself must be overcome through achieving “Śūnyatā” meaning emptiness in the sense of recognition of good and evil being two opposing principles but not a reality, emptying the two qualities of them, and achieving unity (Good and Evil." This novel expresses various themes and diverse topics to think about, including the moral nature of human beings, whether people are essentially good or essentially evil. The coexistence of good and evil is defined as a policy of living peacefully with other nations or religions also to exist together at the same time in harmony. In the novel Harper Lee uses the coexistence of good and evil to prove that people aren’t always honest. Hidden traits are meant to be revealed comparable to secrets that are meant to be told. Harper Lee titled this book To Kill a Mockingbird because a mockingbird symbolizes those who possess virtue. A mockingbird is a species of a bird that are best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds and the sounds of insects and amphibians often loudly and in rapid tone. It is the tail and the head of a coin. The tail is yin, and then the head is yang. They exist alongside one another. The head cannot exist without the tail, and the tail cannot exist without the head. Everything in this world is a dualism. In it, you can always find yin and yang. Exposing Boo to the public eye would be sort of killing a mockingbird (Lee 318). Innocents deserve to be protected just like mockingbirds; they create a happy world to live in. Atticus and Heck Tate attempt and succeed in shooting the mad dog, so sometimes you have to do bad things (Lee 93). Heck Tate is the police officer that tries to protect the innocents from danger; however that could be risky at times (Lee 93). Mr. Walter Cunningham is farmer who isn’t as wealthy but believes in not harming any innocents. Mr. Walter Cunningham was faced with evil as he was in front of the jail, but good takes over when he tells the mob to leave (Lee 157).
