“Christmas, Christmas time is near. Time for toys and time for cheer.” Almost anyone can sing along to this Christmas Carol, but many can not relate to the lyrics. Christmas time is a joy for many, it is spent with their family opening presents. All around the world many children do not get to enjoy the luxury of Christmas presents around this holiday, and there are many in the community near you who do not have this privilege. The program that has been designed to be a help for communities all over the country is the Christmas Share outreach. The Christmas Share intentions are to convey love back to the community, give meaning towards the holiday, and to spread love towards others. The program will help spread the Christmas cheer by hosting
Christmas is a time to show love towards family and others one may care about, but that is often forgotten. It is easy to forget how blessed one may be around the holidays, and that not everyone can enjoy the luxury. A community might not become interested in the Christmas Share program because one can claim they are too busy during the season to help volunteer. The Christmas Share program is not very time consuming, and it is an easy way to help out the community. The program is not time consuming because all it requires is to drop off donations at a convenient place in the community. The donations that are asked are not difficult to bring because the program accepts used clothing items, and the new items that are asked to be donated are very cheap to buy. The organization does not require too many volunteers, but it does require donations. As an incentive of donating towards the program, the children who become involved will receive a pizza party at the local school. All the elementary or middle school children who bring gifts or their clothing items will sign in, and all the students who participated will be brought pizza for lunch on a school day. If one may be too busy to help directly with the program, any donations would greatly impact the operation. The Christmas Share program also allows the donors to become involved with the operation, unlike many other programs. Instead of just giving money or
During the holiday seasons one needs to be reminded that not all can enjoy Christmas by opening presents or spending the day with family. The program that has been presented is directed towards having a positive impact on a community. The program’s main aspects are to unify a community, to help the children and families of a community, and to remind all to be thankful during the holidays. The organization was formed to focus on children and families in need, but as the program developed one can see that program will also benefit the people participating in it. Christmas Share is a community project that will touch the lives of children, adults, and families. The purpose of the project is not only provide a memorable Christmas for families in need, but a memorable Christmas for a community as a
This December 2013 Kawartha Food Share has sponsored local volunteers for the program “Keeping Christmas Local” so that families who can’t afford a Christmas dinner can have one as well. In essence, every dollar, this campaign can purchase $6 worth of food.
Christmastime is a time of joy, peace and love. It is also a time where people put aside their differences, accept one another for who they are and practice unconditional love. Right? Well, apparently not if you happen to lean towards the left politically. After all, there is nothing that liberals won't attack these days.
Christmas has consumed itself. At its conception, it was a fine idea, and I imagine that at one point its execution worked very much as it was intended to. These days, however, its meaning has been perverted; its true purpose ignored and replaced with a purpose imagined by those who merely go through the motions, without actually knowing why they do so.

Numerous children in the world live in orphanages and foster cares, where neither do they get proper education nor do they get parental and family love. The service event that I would like to propose is called a Storybook Drive.
Letters, emails and phone calls soliciting for donations along with providing an awareness of the need to assist the homeless individuals. To co-workers, associates, local providers which provide services to the homeless population, advertising it in my email’s signature page, Face Book, conversations with some community members such as the Columbus House, United Way, Whalley Avenue Special Service District, and local distributors in the City of New Haven and speak to local business; including a request to WTNH Channel 8 Community News to provide a television segment to encourage the community and other organizations that can make a contribution with products or monetary donations to the need of the project. In addition, if there is not enough donations to continue this project in the future, fundraiser of home made lunch meals, will be implemented. Without that source of community and organization supports, there is little likelihood of a successful implementation of the
For my volunteer experience I chose to help assist in a program called the Sonshine Club that’s provided in one of the local city schools Kenwood Heights Elementary School. The Sonshine club has been a program that has been established for approximately seventeen years now in which at this particular school they met on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:15pm. Their message to bring to the children is that “there is a bright light out of all of this” (Use.salvationarmy.org, 2014). In Clark county, Ohio the data shows that there are 27% of children between the ages of 5-17 years old, are in poverty (Use....
Christmas is almost here again, but have you ever thought how odd some of the holiday traditions are and how they became so popular? Buying a pine tree, setting it up in your house and then decorating it with festive lights and ornaments; hanging up stockings filled with candy over the fireplace; or how an old guy in a red-suit comes to your house the night before Christmas and leaves presents. This, too many Americans is normal, but why? Learning about these holiday traditions will get you into the Christmas spirit and show you what Christmas is truly about.
Christmas used to be a time when families gathered and love enclosed each member. Meals and stories were shared and times were simpler. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Mass were special times for families to sit back in a pew and remember the true meaning of Christmas as carols were sung in the high choirs. This serenity and peace seems to be a thing of the past. Now, people are drowning in the pressure that Christmas is all about presents, and that unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning is what this joyous occasion is centered around. Another misconceived thought is that Christmas has to be bought and given away in order to have a good time. In 2010, a stunning “4.8 million people [found] time on Christmas Day to go online and shop.” On the contrary, only “4.5 million people who attend an Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Baptist or Pentecostal church,” was present in church on Christmas Day. The thought that shopping is more important than the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is appalling to Christians throughout the world.
The Christmas holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ in the Christian faith has expanded beyond its religious significance and been transformed into a cultural phenomenon observed by both believers and non-believers.
“To whom much is given, much is expected.” This quote exemplifies my own personal philosophy on community service. Service is the greatest gift one can return to their community. When an individual takes their personal time and effort to help others in need, it helps progress not only the community they live in, but multiple communities ; ultimately promoting unity and teamwork. People gather together to work towards a common goal: building the people and organizations they are directly and indirectly affected by so that the next generation will be stronger than the previous one. Community service is but is not limited to monetary and material donations, housing reinforcement, neighborhood clean ups. It is as simple as holding a toy drive for
...lock parties where we and the other families on our street gather to celebrate a certain holiday. We have food and games and with everyone included in the fun, makes everyone feel better and welcome in the community. Also, I just moved to a new town and on Halloween in my old town, no one really went around having parties or trick or treating. In my new neighborhood everyone was out and running about to get candy and some of my friends from school along the way trick or treated with us for a little bit. I definitely enjoyed this and when using inclusivity in community service, I want to include people in the things they are prevented from doing. So, if they are hungry and can’t have a proper meal everyday, I would like to help them by including them in those meals we have. Being inclusive doesn’t just make yourself feel better, but can help out a community as well.
Ah, to be a kid again. How wonderful it would be to relive the magic of Christmas. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been a kid at heart and a true lover of Christmas. But as we get older and we realize that Santa Claus and the North Pole were just stories our parents told us so we’d behave, Christmas starts to lose that magical feeling. No matter how much we might still love it, Christmastime just isn’t the same as when we were young. And at a time of all the aggravating shopping hustle and bustle, dents in the pockets, headaches, traffic jams and long lines, I begin to realize that God has sent me the most magical Christmas gift of all, a beautiful three year old whom I can relive Christmas in all over. Through my child’s eyes, I see myself each time his face lights up at the sight of Santa, and I feel his anticipation each morning as he faithfully opens up one more window on the Christmas calendar. Tonight, as we decorate the tree, I admiringly watched his tiny fingers delicately place each of the ornaments on all the same branches until they drooped to the floor. So proud of his work, I secretly placed some elsewhere, as to not hurt his feelings, and wondered how many times my own mother had done the same thing. And after a long day of shopping and excitement, I watched his eyelids begin to droop while lying underneath the warm glow of the Christmas tree lights.
Ever since I could remember, I have spent Christmas at my grandmother’s house, a house which is full of comfort, warmth, and happiness. At Christmas, I have always been able to escape the cold and dark real world allowing myself to truly enjoy just several moments in time. These moments have left impressionable memories from my childhood making Christmas a holiday that is special to me and my family. It is a time for my family to get together, share stories, laugh, and even cry.
The most joyous season of the year in our house is Christmas. All the family gets together, gifts are exchanged and we give thanks for all that we have. This Christmas however, was one that I will never forget. If it weren't for the help of a stranger coming to my rescue, my holidays would have been ruined. He reminded me that a little kindness really does go along way.
