Michele Amitrano
Michele's compassion is his most prominent characteristic that makes him appealing to the reader. Throughout the novel, he exhibits empathy well beyond his years, often making readers forget that he is just nine. This can be seen clearly in three main instances. First, when he goes after his sister when she has fallen over (pg. 4) despite his own fears. Secondly, offering to complete the forfeit in place of Barbra when Skull forces her to complete an embarrassing forfeit. Finally, and most evidently, when he takes care of Filippo. This makes for a positive contrast with the rest of Acqua Traverse who seem to lack any compassion. When describing places and characters he reveals his unique way of viewing things that demonstrates his childlike imagination and innocence. He often combines reality and fantasy, such as when describing the Wicked Witch' (pg. 89) to Maria.
Michele is a hero in many ways. He exhibits all the characteristics and actions of someone who would certainly be considered a hero. He is compassionate for those who are weaker and more vulnerable, and helps them in spite of his fears for his own safety. His actions in the case of Filippo set his apart from others, as a hero. Michele defies his parent's wishes and, with the knowledge he would be in trouble, he returns to Filippo to honor his promise. However, it is his actions in the end of the text that define him as a hero. When saving Filippo from the hole, and taking his place he is risking his life and is He is a hero to Maria, who he protects from all the problems and conflicts in the Amitrano family.
Towards the end of the text, Michele's happiness is evident. When he finds Filippo alive, he is overwhelmed and bursts out in tears (pg. 208). He seems to have achieved what he wanted all along, to free Filippo.
In the end of the novel, Michele has matured. Initially when he meets Filippo he is repulsed by the notion of touching him, however in the end of the text Michele embraces Filippo when they are both shivering with cold' (pg. 211).
Pino Amitrano
It is clear that Pino is annoyed by his family's life in Acqua Traverse. It becomes evident that he justifies his actions to himself by making himself believe they are necessary to improve their lives.
Interestingly, coffee becomes a pacifier, a salve, when Lucia Santa returns from Filomena’s house shaken and distraught with her baby Vincenzo in her arms.
Trimalchio ends the night by kissing a good looking slave causing a fight between him and Fortunata. Trimalchio says some really rude and hurtful things about Forunata over such a little incident. Trimalchio makes it difficult for anyone to get close to him or trust him because he can change his whole in just a moment. Trimalchio then tells his whole life story and then lays on the couch and told his guests to pretend he’s dead.
All in all, heroism is a vague word that could be defined as many of things. Such as bravery, courage, honesty, morality, trusts...etc. If Beowulf was defined as a hero then the knight should be defined as one also seeing as he gave the old women the choice to be old and good or pretty and bad. Or if the Author of The Art of Courtly love cannot be heroic and then write in a way of being heroic how can one decide what heroism is. All three of these studies show different forms and fashions of heroic people, feelings, and attitudes. Overall heroism is and always will be based on personal opinion, what one person defines as a hero can be completely different from what another person sees it as.
What makes a hero be a hero? A hero has to have certain characteristics, such as; bravery, wisdom, etc. No matter what characteristics are pointed out, every story has a hero, or an archetypal hero. From a short stories to really long novels, you will have some type of hero. In the novel The Alchemist, the main character Santiago is a hero. The book is about how everyone should live their dreams and never give up on them. It follows a young man named Santiago who is following his own dream, or his own “Personal Legend”. It follows him and his struggles to achieve said Personal Legend. Santiago is a hero because he is wise, kind, and brave; He is also a hero because he displays characteristics of an archetypal hero..
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.
What is a hero? Is it an individual that saves lives? A person that does good in the world? Or do you simply think of your mom as a hero? In everyday life we encounter heroes, whether it is a policeman or even a librarian. A person doesn’t need to save the world, or be like Superman in order to be considered a hero. It can be the simplest thing from you helping somebody open their locker to holding the door open for someone as they pass. Andrew Carnegie was the hero of his time, with his benevolence and goodwill. Carnegie was a hardworking boy pushing through poverty to help his family. His intelligence and wisdom helped him evolve into a philanthropist. Later in life he became the richest man of his time era. Still with all his riches and

If the figure of the detective is to restore the state of peace and grace in society, this role is hindered and eventually dissolves against the backdrop of the paradox which defines the city throughout the novel. For example, in the novel, the Iguana?s constant switching of identity and the corresponding murders that occur in areas outside Bologna only make it more challenging for Grazia to connect an individual who appears at the scene of each crime. In a sense then, the deceptive illusion which the Iguana represents exposes the contradictions by which the city seems bound. For instance, to a foreigner of Bologna, the city can be characterised by its ?well defined perimeters? However, the constant reminders that are employed by the narrative (?This city is not what it seems?) only exculpate a notion of its truth that the city boundaries conceal a deeper layer of truth that could result in potentially destructive consequences: You think this city is small because you?re looking at what lies within the city walls. These consequenc...
A hero can be that normal person you see just walking down the street. According to either of these definitions, Prince Hamlet can definitely be identified as a hero. For his words and actions, clearly exhibit such label, and give one the right and reason to say so. " But two months dead-- …my poor father’s body…why she married with my uncle, My father’s brother, but no more like my father…
The tragedy that ultimately plagues Rappaccini, Giovanni, and Beatrice in Rappaccini’s Daughter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne are the result of a shared sense of delusion toward self and surroundings by the aforementioned characters rather than the specific actions of the characters. As Giovanni observes Beatrice’s deadly actions, he chooses not to believe his own eyes, and to blindly trust this girl because of her sweet and innocent nature. Beatrice also experiences corruption through delusion throughout the story, as she chooses not to see that Giovanni’s constant exposure to the poisonous fumes will have an effect on him. Her delusion is also present in her belief that Giovanni’s love could ever amount to anything real, given her venomous state.
A hero is a person who cedes to benefit others. Through many complications that were faced they stood up with the greatest bravery. Welles Crowther is a great example of a hero who sought to help the other people in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Though he could’ve saved himself he tried to save others. Though he lost his life he inspired others to help others in need. Ling Young says,”He said,”I’m going back up again.” Cause he knows that there were a lot of people still up there on the 78th floor that needed help (“The Man in the Red Bandana”). Though he could have saved

The definition of a hero in my life, is someone who leads by example and serves as a positive role model. This person serves as someone that I look up to because of their positive attitude and great optimism. This person is also someone who is not selfish and cares about the well-being of people around him. The person who fits these characteristics is my grandpa, Drew Nieman.

A hero is defined as someone who is acknowledged for their courageous and selfless behavior or actions. Clint Eastwood’s character Walt Kowalski, in the film Gran Torino is a stellar example of this definition of a hero. Walt was more than a decorated war hero; he helped his neighbors and community. Eastwood’s character generated opportunities for Thao, a young man who didn’t have a father and lacked guidance. Walt saved Thao’s sister, Sue from an unfavorable situation as well as gave his own life to protect her and her family from a local gang. Walt proved throughout various stages of his life that he was selfless and willing to do the right thing no matter the situation. Walt did whatever it took to preserve peace and save his friends and community from harm. No matter the circumstances Walt’s morals and integrity would not falter. His actions would be above and beyond the average man’s. The movie highlights certain heroic events in Walt’s adult life beginning with his service in the United States Army during the Korean War.
