In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, he uses symbolism, tone, and imagery to show dehumanization in his writing. In his book he explains the living conditions of the Jewish people in Germany and neighboring countries during the time of the holocaust. In the beginning he describes the chaos in the households of Jewish communities. In his story, he talks about his experiences in the camps.
The mood of Night is harder to interpret. Many different responses have occurred in readers after their perusal of this novel. Those that doubt the stories of the holocaust’s reality see Night as lies and propaganda designed to further the myth of the holocaust. Yet, for those people believing in the reality, the feelings proffered by the book are quite different. Many feel outrage at the extent of human maliciousness towards other humans. Others experience pity for the loss of family, friends, and self that is felt by the holocaust victims. Some encounter disgust as the realization occurs that if any one opportunity had been utilized the horror could of been avoided. Those missed moments such as fleeing when first warned by Moshe the Beadle, or unblocking the window when the Hungarian officer had come to warn them, would have saved lives and pain.
At first, the Jews believe the Germans to be harmless. It takes dark times and drastic measures for the German’s true wickedness to be unveiled. One of the first instances in which the Jews are exposed to the true evil of their antagonists is the first moment they get off of their cattle cars at Birkenau-Auschwitz. Consumed by Madame Schachter’s prophesied “fire,” the sky symbolizes the flaming hell that the Jews are about to endure. At this moment, as the Jews stare silently at the ravenous chimneys spouting out flames, their worst nightmares evolve into reality. At midnight, the witching hour, the Jews’ eyes finally begin to see the evil that surrounds them.

Elli was a Holocaust victim and her only companion was her mother. Together they fought for hunger, mistreatment and more. By examining the themes carefully, the audience could comprehend how the author had a purpose when she wrote this novel. In addition, by seeing each theme, the audience could see what the author was attacking, and why. By illustrating a sense of the plight of millions of Holocaust victims, Livia-Bitton Jackson explores the powerful themes of one’s will to survive, faith, and racism.
Denial is another theme in this film which helped to save the Jewish race. Even as they are forced into the ghetto and later into labor camps they are in denial of their real situation. When they are in the ghetto they are optimistic and believe that the bad times will pass, and even when killing surrounds them they won’t let themselves believe the worst.

Death states that, “I’m always finding humans at their best and worst. I see their ugly and their beauty, and I wonder how the same thing can be both” (Zusak 491). This book shows us human doing things that weren’t even imaginable before this point. Many people give into ideas that were lies. But, we also watch a few people go out of their way and sacrifice everything for a man they barely even know. They do everything they can to keep him safe and alive. They work harder, the get another job, and they even steal. In Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief, death examines the ugliness and the beauty of humans.
During the 1930’s, The Holocaust physically, mentally, and emotionally scarred the lives of all mankind. Elie Wiesel is one of the few who has been able to turn his tragic experience as a concentration camp survivor into a memoir. Although Wiesel’s story isn’t like many others, his use of diction influences the tone and meaning of the story; Wiesel’s attitude in the book is calm, shocking, and thoughtful; capturing attention and spreading awareness to readers all around the world.

By this he portrays characters that take it amongst themselves to fight the horrors of the illness out of love for their own innocent humanity, and although it does not personally affect many of the ones who do this, they understand that they could suffer to the same degree if it did hit them, where they would seek help the same way the victims did. With this Camus counters the failure from way too many during the time of Nazi Germany to challenge and overcome Hitler’s Reich, which stemmed from fear and the evil of ignorance that remains inexcusable. The impact of the holocaust proves that humankind does not believe in an essential understanding, that individuals are fundamentally sadistic until silenced, and if attention never gets drawn to the reality of such exploitations, the madness spirals so out of control that humans convince themselves it does not exist.
“The War Against The Jews” by Lucy Dawidowicz explores a very dark time in history and interprets it from her perspective. Through the use of other novels, she concurs and agrees to form her opinion. This essay will explore who Dawidowicz is, why she wrote the book, what the book is about, what other authors have explored with the same topic, and how I feel about the topic she wrote about. All in all, much research will be presented throughout the essay. In the end, you will see how strongly I feel about the topic I chose.
The author illustrated his characters as different types of animals where in the Jews are represented as mice and the Germans as cats. This representation proposes how the Jews facing the Nazis are as helpless as a mouse caught by a cat. The first part for instance, is introduced by a quotation from Hitler in which he deprives the Jewish race of human qualities by reducing them to a mere vermin: “The Jews are undoubtedly a race but they are not human: (Spiegelman I, 4).
...wards the end as they are being sent away to the concentration camp. Another, meaningful contrast is where we see, “the homely thudding of a Parisian bus. Five white-and-green municipal buses had come in through the main entrance.” Faulks manages to make one of the most devastating events in history, sound like just another day in France, when the locals catch the bus in the morning. The ‘Five white-and-green municipal buses’ are made to sound ordinary, when actually these vehicles would be transporting thousands of Jews to their deaths, and for most of them, it would be their final journey. Faulks also writes ‘now stood trembling in the wired-off corner.’ ‘Trembling,’ is a human action, which is caused by emotional pain or distress, which is also a form of suffering, as well the trembling of the buses also ironically applies to the Jews and how they are feeling.
