“The Book Thief” Movie and Book Comparison There are many differences between “The Book Thief” movie and book. In this essay I will describe some differences that really popped out to me. I will discuss how Max’s biggest goal of one day becoming a professional boxer has been completely removed from the entire movie. I will also talk about how I think that Rudy comes across the existence of Max’s stay fairly early in the book. I also noticed that Rosa and Hans children are not at all in the movie. Another event is when Hans delivers bread to a Jewish man when he is being paraded through the street. This happens in the book however not in the movie. In the movie Max still hides in the Hubermann’s basement, but his biggest goal of one day becoming …show more content…
a professional boxer has been completely removed from the entire movie. I also thought that his friendship with Liesel is also way more energetic and engaged than in the book. Both, however, still communicate best with using their own creative words and actions. The creativeness in both of them does not change. Still, the big goal of one day demolishing Hitler in the boxing arena was never in the movie. I also think that Rudy comes across the existence of Max quite early in the movie. He figures it out when he sees Max’s name written in Liesel’s book and becomes very curious. He began to question her and that is when the secret got out. I think the director had Rudy figure out the existence of Max earlier in the movie rather than in the book because it adds so much more tension to the story making the viewers even more engaged. Freeman 2 This action bonds Rudy and Liesel making their friendship unbreakable. However, this action adds on to the extreme sadness of the ending when Rudy dies. This also adds to the how much pressure the children were put under when the war was going on. Another event that I noticed that was in the movie and not in the book was the children of Hans and Rosa.
These two children have just been completely cut from the movie. When I read the book I remember one of the children gets into a fight with Hans about how he failed to connect with the Nazis and their party. This older child also knows that Liesel loves to read books so he thinks Liesel should read Mein Kamph. Also during the book, the mayor and his wife stop the clothes services of the Hubermanns because they want to make the point that they and the Nazi party is getting a lot stricter. They want to prove to the public that this is not a game. It is portrayed very differently in “The Book Thief” movie. The mayor started to see the new relationship his wife had with Liesel and wanted to stop it. Also, Liesel did not scream or catapult a book at Ilsa when Liesel is told that Ilsa does not want the family’s assistance anymore with the laundry. I think this was changed to add more tension to the movie and to make a better reunion when Ilsa comes for Leisel at the end of the movie. One more point in the book is when Hans delivers bread to a Jewish man when he is being paraded through the street. In the book Hans and the Jewish man were very badly whipped by a Nazi officer. This scene in the movie is changed a lot. The way the director portrays it is a lot less violent. Instead of getting whipped, he must tell the Nazi his name which then puts tremendous stress on his mind. Hans
then moves Max to the basement because he did not want to risk anyone finding out he was with the Hubermanns. Freeman 3 Overall “The Book Thief” movie and book are very different. I discussed how Max’s biggest goal of one day becoming a professional boxer has been completely removed from the entire movie. I also talked about how I thought that Rudy comes across the existence of Max’s stay fairly early in the book. I debated how Rosa and Hans children are in the book fairly often however not in the movie at all. I also talked about how when Hans delivers bread to a Jewish man when he is being paraded through the street this is in the book however not the movie. Both the book and movie are great even though they are different. I believed that it was still a very well put together movie and book sequence.
Elie and Liesel live and survive during the time of World War II. Both characters face the harsh reality of the terrible period of time they are living in. The memoir, Night and the movie, “The Book Thief” share similarities and dissimilarities that make Elie and Liesel both stand out. Due to the loss of family, determination to live, and fear helps both of them survive the war, but depends on the different reactions, mistreated for different reasons, and hope.
Second there is more detail in the book than the movie. Well, I think that more detail is better because the more you know the better you understand the movie or
There are many differences and similarities in the short story of “A Sound of Thunder” and the movie.
Markus Zusak, author of The Book Thief (2005), and Steven Spielberg, director of Schindler’s List (1993), both use their works to portray the theme of racism in Nazi-era Germany. Racism today affects millions of people daily, with 4.6 million people being racial discrimination in Australia alone. However, in Nazi-era Germany, Jewish people were discrimination because they weren’t part of the ‘master race’, causing millions to suffer and be killed. To explore this theme, the setting, characters, conflicts and symbols in both The Book Thief and Schindler’s List will be analysed and compared.
Though the events and a lot of the dialogue are the same in both the book and the movie the crux of the two are completely different. The book focuses a lot more on sexual tension and sexual exploration. The...
A Comparison A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury and The Star by H.G. Wells
The book is some what different from the movie. There are many differences between the book and the movie. Like when PonyBoy and Johnny went to the movie theater Pony wished that he was big and buff like the guy in the movie. “I was wishing I looked like Paul Newman-he looks tough and I don’t
Overall, the movie and book have many differences and similarities, some more important than others. The story still is clear without many scenes from the book, but the movie would have more thought in it.
The differences in the movie and the book might have been intentional. If audiences were to read the book, watch the movie, and reach conclusions, I think they would have great understanding of what’s inside them both. For example, a scene in the movie in which Atticus tells his children why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird was not in the book; from that scene, I inferred on how that became the initial title of the book. By using both resources, I was able to gather information and grasp its contents tighter.
In this essay I will talk about The Book Thief Characters. The characters are Liesel, Rudy, And Max. I Will talk about how they are Influenced by society in This Book/Movie. I am going to three Paragraphs about these three characters. This essay is going to be a Compare and Contrast Essay.
The novel The Book Thief is a book about a young girl by the name of Liesel Meminger. Observing the life of this young girl is not easy as this is the time of Hitler’s reign in Germany. In a short period of time, this girl faces many difficulties. More than any child should ever have to encounter. She has to deal with being abandoned by her mother, the death of her younger brother, and relocation to another part of Germany. Immediately when Liesel arrives to Molching, her life is forever changed. She is forced to live with two strangers, now her new mama and papa. Liesel faces much abuse both at school and at home. At school she is made fun of for her illiteracy and at home, mama speaks very rudely to her calling her a swine and other insults.
Words, so simple, yet are the most powerful ways of communication. The weight of words is one of most impactful themes in Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief, and is felt throughout the entire novel. The Book Thief is a story that takes place during World War II, and follows the Hubermann family and friendships as the Narrator: Death follows them through their journey of Germany in 1939. Hans Hubermann is one of the greatest supporters of words right next to the Book Thief herself, Liesel Meminger. Words are emphasized through stolen books, spoken conversations, and thoughts of the characters. Hans Hubermann backs Liesel’s desire to read through many long nights, protects Max Vandenburg while in hiding, and consistently stands up against the dehumanization
I have only included what I have to believe are largely important plot gaps and differences in the movie version in comparison to the book one, and so I apologize again if I have missed any other major ones. Forgive me, please.
In The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, beauty and brutality is seen in many of the characters. Rudy, Liesel, and Rosa display examples of beauty and brutality often without realizing what exactly they are doing, because it is a part of their human nature. Zusak not only uses his characters, but also the setting of the novel in Nazi Germany to allude to his theme of the beauty and brutality of human nature. The time in which the novel is set, during World War II, displays great examples of beauty and brutality, such as the mistreatment of the Jews. As a result of this time period, the characters have to go through troubling times, which reveals their beautiful and brutal nature in certain circumstances. Zusak uses his characters and their experiences to demonstrate the theme of the beauty and brutality of human nature in the novel.
Have you ever read a book and then watched the movie and saw many differences? Well you can also find lots of similarities.
