Recommended: The importance of helping others
Although the Blind Side is a comedy and action film, it is also a heartwarming film about how one kid changes a family forever, which is why it is one of my favorite films. The Blind Side is about a family seeing a boy in need and taking acting to help him. In the film a young teenage boy struggling with education and finding somewhere to live because of issues with this mother and family. I enjoy watching The Blind Side because there are many aspects that I can connect with, and I think that there is an important lesson within the film. The film touches on issues of prejudgments, helping others, and the query against the motives of helping someone. Prejudgement is a hard topic to talk about, but The Blind Side did a good job presenting this …show more content…
This connection allows me to understand Mike and how he feels. It also makes me think about what happens when I make judgements before getting to know people and how it can affect their views of themselves. Mike struggled with school until a teacher and Ms. Tuohy helped him. Everyone believed that he was not listening nor could he be taught, but these women realized that he had potential and just needed some help. Ms. Tuohy and Ms. Boswell both benefit from helping Mike. The movie shows how Ms. Tuohy’s views and opinions changed by welcoming someone with a different background into her life. I can relate to this because I think that by helping others you are helping yourself. Both parties grow and learn from each other and the Blind Side does an exquisite job showing it. Finally, after Mike chooses to play football at the same college the Tuohy’s went to an investigator looks into the Tuohy’s motive of helping Mike. I think that this is one of the most important parts of the movie because it shows that even when people have the best intentions some make question why they are helping …show more content…
The Tuohy family, Leigh, Sean, S.J., and Collins, have decided to welcome Michael into their home after finding out that he has been living on the street for a while. The Tuohy family is always polished. However, Mike does not have much style especially at the beginning when all he had was two shirts both old and raggedy. During the scene he is wearing on the these gray shirts. Mike’s new room has bright blue walls and it is very brightly lit; however, when Ms. Touhy walls into the other room the colors are more dull and dark, and the room is poorly lit. I think that this is suppose to show how the character is feeling. Right before Ms. Tuohy walks away she is excited and happy to show Mike his new room and bed, and Mike tells her that he has never had one before. Ms. Tuohy thought he met a room to himself, but he explains that he never had a bed before. This is surprising and hard for Ms. Tuohy because she never had to think about not having a bed of her own, so when she goes to the other room she is sad explaining the change in the lighting. During the scene the camera switches from Ms. Touhy and Mike to show their different reactions to what had been said. I choose this scene because it shows me how thankful I am for the life I have. This scene definitely represent a reason I appreciate this movie because not only does it show what it means to him, it shows how
I choose this scene because of the high tensions it has I also choose it because it is the climax my favorite
Throughout Mike’s life, he had the fortunate experience of having some inspirational mentors. I have identified four of his numerous mentors as the most critical to his development, both educationally and personally.
It shows that there is no difference between white and colored people, but it’s so hard for people to get past the physical features to realize that we are all equal. Ethel was right when she said two colored men would help two white women, and those white men knew she was right. Those men knew Ethel had a point and now they had no choice but to help her and her friend. When Ethel was in the hospital, she had two doctors who mistreated her leg injury. Her wound was severely infected because the two doctors never helped her, and her leg could have been amputated.
Mike was also a paranoid person. For example, he gave the wrong address and phone number to the school so if something happened they could not contact him.
In conclusion Mike was an exceptional man with exceptional middos and there is much to learn from him. Over the course of this assignment I’ve been thinking about the many areas I can and imy”h will change in. Mike helped everyone it didn’t matter if you were his best friend, his neighbour or unknown to him, the only thing that matters was that you were jew. So too in our days it doesn’t matter if you’re smart, granddaughter of the gadol hador or good looking – everyone should be treated the same way. I hope this writing has influenced you because it surely impacted
his life in a major way. Mike’s biology teacher encouraged him to the best at everything and to
Sometimes in life we are quick to judge a book by its cover, but once we begin to read, we sometimes often discover that the book we once judged, was something special after all. This is exactly what was demonstrated in The Blind Side. Many people saw Michael and was so bothered by his appearance that they did not bother to figure out who he truly was. It wasn’t until they were forced to deal with him, that people saw him for who he really was. Michael was not just some bad kid from the hood, he was a child with a lost spirit that came from a broken home and a bad situation that needed someone to guide him and show him the true meaning of love. As Christians we are taught to love our neighbors, but stereotyping often gets in the way of that. Stereotyping can compel negative results on a person’s character, but in this case, it opens ones heart to mother someone who needs mothering.
It reminds us of a time not so different from where we live now, a world filled with lies, hatred, and moral ambiguity. It’s a story that largely reminds us as humans who we are, prone to mistakes and preconceptions that can lead to disastrous results, but also capable of growth and redemption. This story really allows you to understand different philosophies, perceptions, and differing opinions of morality and
Herbert Blumer noted that people act toward others based on the meaning they give them. The meaning we assign to someone is shown by the language we use toward that person. Words we use have default assumptions, and people label others with words. Thought then comes into play as we modify our interpretation of what we see by our thought process. The thought process includes someone taking the role of the other. You imagine you are someone else who is viewing you, and sometimes act as that person would act. A lot of the people in the movie, The Blind Side, act differently toward Michael Oher based on the meaning they assign to him, and they give him different labels. Those labels are mostly negative because people see Michael him with ratty clothes, nowhere to live, and always failing school. Michael Oher’s mom in the movie, Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock), and her family represent love and caring. Michael starts showing love and caring. When he goes back to the “hood” with his old friends, they represent problems, and he doesn’t want to be problematic, so he stays away from
In this movie I learned that you can never be quick to judge people based on their color, or the way they look, because their look doesn't tell you if they are nice or good people. This movie teaches you great lessons about life and shows that it takes hard work to succeed and to make a good team. Chemistry is one of the key things. Everyone should get along, and there should be no conflict between teammates. I have also learned that you shouldn't judge someone based on the color of their skin.
This movie has a lot of credibility in my eyes because it is based of a true story. The course material that we have is accurately depicted in the film because it shows real life examples that are often seen in lower income families. By showing how Michael Oher came from a broken household that was constantly berated with negative influence, The Blind Side shows how important class, poverty, and the nurturing love of a family is for somebody’s
This movie is a wonderful production starting from 1960 and ending in 1969 covering all the different things that occurred during this unbelievable decade. The movie takes place in many different areas starring two main families; a very suburban, white family who were excepting of blacks, and a very positive black family trying to push black rights in Mississippi. The movie portrayed many historical events while also including the families and how the two were intertwined. These families were very different, yet so much alike, they both portrayed what to me the whole ‘message’ of the movie was. Although everyone was so different they all faced such drastic decisions and issues that affected everyone in so many different ways. It wasn’t like one person’s pain was easier to handle than another is that’s like saying Vietnam was harder on those men than on the men that stood for black rights or vice versa, everyone faced these equally hard issues. So it seemed everyone was very emotionally involved. In fact our whole country was very involved in president elections and campaigns against the war, it seemed everyone really cared.
Moreover, the woman in the ?eye of the Beholder? not only wanted beauty but she felt the need for acceptance. She was denied this when she was taken to a disability camp. It?s amazing how in the movie, people were separated and treated unequally because of their physical appearances, and as result, they could not share the same society. This is in fact is a metaphor for how discrimination was once in extreme existence in this society. For example, African Americans once had to use: different bathrooms, water fountains, and were even segregated to non-white school. They were even isolated to the worse parts of the cities.
To conclude, I think this movie is a good example to show how a homeless person lived and how he survived his life from being a homeless. Throughout all his life he showed what can determination do even though there are obstacles in the way. Doing is best paid off his hardships. So from dreaming big, be determined on what you're trying to do, and be responsible on things will make you succeed in the future.
Not only does this movie deal with the issues of society, but it points to biblical scriptures that help lead us in the right direction. The biggest lesson that this film taught me was that if I put my complete faith in God, then no matter what happens, he will provide, watch over, and take care of me. I learned that expressing belief in God is not enough. I have to live everyday believing and trusting him and I have to show my trust and faith through my actions and my words.
