Eighteen years after its release, the cult classic dark comedy, The Big Lebowski is getting a spin-off, featuring one of its most beloved side characters in the leading role.
A recent announcement revealed that there is a film currently shooting under the title, Going Places. This dramatic comedy is inspired by the 1974 French picture, Les Valseuses. It will star John Turturro, Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, and Susan Sarandon. The most notable thing about this movie, however, is that aside from being a remake, it will serve as a spin-off to the popular comedy, The Big Lebowski.
Directed, produced, and written by the acclaimed sibling pair of Joel and Ethan Coen, the 1998 film has an extremely ardent and enthusiastic fanbase. Aficionados

of the movie hold conventions and make memorabilia and fan works. They even created a religion surrounding its main character called "The Church of Latter-Day Dude." As such, many people have been clamoring for a follow-up to the cult classic. One of those individuals just so happens to be one of the actors from the original film, John Turturro. Long before his recent success in the HBO miniseries, The Night Of, he was famous for portraying the flamboyant bowler, Jesus (JEE-zus) Quintana. Although the character only appears in two scenes, he left a huge impression on fans, giving the film some of its most quotable lines like, "I don't f***ing care! It don't matter to Jesus!" and "You said it, man. Nobody f***s with the Jesus." Turturro has spoken about his desire to return to the character for a long time. Part of that likely comes from the fact that when he initially signed on for the movie, he believed that Jesus would play a bigger role in the plot. Although he was disappointed that that was not the case, the Coen brothers (with whom Turturro had worked previously on Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink) gave him a lot of freedom with the character, which is part of what made him so enjoyable. It's evident that Turturro had plenty of fun in the role, given his want to play him again. Turturro had lobbied for a spin-off featuring Jesus hard, and many members of the fanbase have supported him.
Jeff Bridges - who played the protagonist Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski from the original - has gone on record that he would be open to having a cameo in the project. The biggest roadblock for the film, however, are the creators of the character themselves. The Coen brothers have stated that they had no interest in returning to The Big Lebowski. In their eyes, the story was complete, and adding onto it would be unnecessary and possibly harmful.
However, with this announcement, the spin-off is all but inevitable. Whether this means that the Coen brothers changed their mind on the prospect, or the decision was out of their hands remains unclear; according to sources, they will have little to nothing to do with the project. What we do know is that this idea has become a reality, and the reactions from fans are running the gamut from excitement to apprehension.
I don't want to turn this article into an opinion piece, but I would be remiss if I didn't say this: I am a HUGE fan of The Big Lebowski. It is my number one favorite movie of all-time. The writing, the comedy, the acting, the direction, and the characters are all superb. I have a Big Lebowski quote for every occasion. I could watch the film a hundred times and still enjoy it; that's how much I love
it. Therefore, you might expect that I would’ve been blown away when I heard this news. However, that was not the case. The reality is that I somewhat agree with the Coen brothers' position. The Big Lebowski is a great film on its own, and I'm afraid that Going Places might tarnish its reputation if it turns out to be bad. I don't want what happened with The Matrix Revolutions or the Star Wars prequels to happen to my favorite film. I doubt that the movie will be that bad, but it's still a concern. In addition, I have some reservations about the fact that it's based on another film. It seems like this isn't a legitimate spin-off of the original movie; just a remake of a different movie that happens to have a character from The Big Lebowski in it. With that said, I still intend to see this spin-off, and I'm still hopeful that it will be good. There seem to be some talented people behind it, and if John Turturro is allowed the same freedom that he had in the first film, seeing Jesus Quintana again will be fantastic. I'm waiting with baited breath for more news about this project because I hope that it becomes a hit. If the makers of Going Places can capture even a fraction of what made The Big Lebowski such a fun film, then all I can say is: The New abides.
Today in Maycomb County, there was a trail against a local African American man named “Tom Robinson.” He was accused for raping and beating up a white girl named “Mayella.” His lawyer is “Atticus Finch” is facing off against “Mr. Gilmer” the district attorney. Judge Taylor, appears to be sleeping through out the trial, yet pays attention and tends to chew his cigar. The supposed crime occurred in Mayella’s home, when Tom Robinson went to fix something and then he raped her.
The Big Lebowski was a screenplay written by Joel and Ethan Coen. It is a comedy that is screen written and a movie that shows how life can be so unexpected. Lebowski known as “The Dude” has had his life terrorized and even his belongings being terrorized which first started off with his rug then went on to other belongings in his house being broken into and being destroyed and along with his car. All The Dude wanted was his rug back "it brought everything together" as he would say within the movie. The Dude went through a whole lot of trouble for this to happen. The people who are terrorizing The Dude have the wrong person, they thought he was a millionaire whose wife owed them money. The Dude is unemployed, broke and lives In an apartment complex and who drinks excessively and smokes blunts while only worrying about bowling. The topic being addressed in this paper will conclude the difference between bums vs achievers. How is The dude much different from Jeffrey Lebowski when the dude does the majority of the work through the novel?. The Dude and Lebowski might be different in certain ways but, there are no differences from each other.
The movie of Of Mice and Men had many differences while still giving the same message that the book was portrayed to have. One of the major differences was that Candy never came into the room when Lennie and Crooks were talking to each other. This was major because Crooks never found out that the plan was true about the little house. In the book after he heard Candy talk about it he wanted to get in on the deal. Also the movie it never showed Lennie have his illusions of his Aunt Carla and the rabbits when he was waiting by the pond.
The Big Lebowski is a parody of Raymond Chandler style hardboiled detective stories about men swept up into mysteries and conspiracies much larger than they initially appear. Jeffery “the Dude” Lebowski (hereafter referred to only as the Dude) is a slacker mistaken for the millionaire Jeffery Lebowski (the titular Big Lebowski) by pornographer Jacky Treehorn’s thugs. The Big Lebowski’s wife, Bunny, owes money to Treehorn, and when his goons come to collect one of them urinates on the Dude’s rug as an act of intimidation before they realize they’ve got the wrong guy. That rug really tied the room together, so the following day the Dude goes to the Big Lebowski’s mansion to demand compensation, but their meeting doesn’t go very well. The next day Bunny is kidnapped and held for ransom by an unknown party, and the Big Lebowski enlists the Dude’s services to get her back. So begins the Dude’s hero journey.
For Elf Jon Favreau went with an all-star cast of Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel, Peter Dinklage, and James Caan. These actors fill their roles perfectly and create humorous memories that will last a lifetime. In 2003, whenever Elf was released, Will Ferrell was coming off of his great run at Saturday Night Live and accompanied with the great success of Zoolander would make Ferrell the perfect candidate. However, Ferrell’s role wouldn’t have been complete without his other stars. Zooey Deschanel would serve perfectly as Jovie, Peter Dinklage as Miles Finch, and James Caan as Buddy’s father. Their tough New York personalities would often times conflict with the joyous and ecstatic Buddy the Elf, but would be submissive to change throughout the movie. The great actors and directors that made this movie are just one of the many factors that lead Elf to be as successful as it
I’m heavy hearted to think without my teacher showing my class your film I might not ever seen your astonishing movie. After watching, I thought if anything similar happens in the world today. The themes in the arts industry, the first amendment, and effort make this film, one of my favorites. Thank you for the beautifully written, and performed interpretation of Dalton Trumbo’s life, I think he would love your adaptation of his struggle. The message you showed in Trumbo is clear and thought provoking, which shows why my peers and myself were left in marvel after completing
In Celia, A Slave, a slave named Celia was sent to court because she committed homicide. However, the murder was justified, because she was trying to defend herself from her slave owner, Robert Newsom, who was attempting to rape her once again. This time around, Celia attempted to protect herself by striking Newsom, just in order to daze him for a bit. She did not intend to kill the man, but simply keep him away from her. Unfortunately, in Missouri in 1850, the only person that would be protected by law would be the slave owner, when it came to the rape of a slave. The slave owner would be allowed to immediately punish a rapist for trespassing on their property, which in this case, would be the slave. Celia, A Slave is a story that
The Big Lebowski is a stoner comedy about a middle-aged hippie who likes to go bowling. The main action of the plot begins when two thugs break into Jeffery Lebowski’s (a.k.a “The Dude”) apartment and try to shake him down for debt his wife has incurred. After some physical abuse, a lot of yelling, and a rug-urination incident the Dude is able to convince them that they have the wrong man. The thugs have come to the wrong Jeffery Lebowski’s house there is another man by the same name with a “nympho” wife named Bunny and much more money. At the instigation of his bowling buddies, the violent Vietnam veteran Walter and the meek and rarely heard Donnie, he takes his soiled rug to the mansion of the “Big Lebowski” to demand a replacement. He eventually leaves, having taken a replacement rug off the floor of the big Lebowski’s floor. This odd incident leads to his involvement in the complicated kidnapping of Bunny. Though he insists that the woman has simply gone on vacation without bothering to tell her much-older husband, the Dude finds himself inextricably involved in a plot involving a pornographer, nihilists, and a kind-of love affair with the big Lebowski’s daughter Maude. Eventually the...

In the history of movies, there are great movies that come out. Then, filmmakers try to recreate the brilliance of that movie with a sequel, sometimes many sequels. All to make more money with something that is familiar to everyone. It very rarely works as well a second or third time around. Because the films usually completely dumb down the first movie 's premise and drop the important parts, in favor of something a lot simpler. In some cases, there are some exceptions; sometimes the sequel is better than the original. This is my list of the top ten great movies with bad sequels. I hope you enjoy reading this list.
Many times in Hollywood, a movie that intends to portray a novel can leave out key scenes that alter the novel’s message. Leaving out scenes from the novel is mainly do to time limits, however doing so can distort the author’s true purpose of the story. In history, Movies were directed to intentionally leave out scenes that could alter the public’s opinion. This frequently let novel 's main points be swept under the rug. There were times of this at the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement, where white Americans were the only ones making movies. Not many African Americans had the opportunity to be involved in the process of major productions. Because racism in To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, is underplayed in the film, it shows
“Between Strangers” was a 6.2-star rated movie, made in 2002 directed by Edoardo Ponti, my son. The movie won a Genie award in 2003 for best achievement in overall sound. I played Olivia, one of the women who confronted her past to change her future. “Lives of the Saints”, made in 2004 and directed by Jerry Ciccoritti was a drama, rated 7.2 stars, won 3 awards and was nominated for 5.

In the past, I have done reviews on John Adams, Rudy, Grease, and The Butler. For my fourth quarter movie review, I decided to watch To Kill A Mockingbird because I have already read the book and wanted to see the film adaptation of it. This movie focuses on the Finch family in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama around the time of the Great Depression. It is based off of the book of the same name by Harper Lee. Both focus on Scout and Jem Finch growing up in the deep South and struggling to figure out how to act in the world around them.
