Personally, I believe one of the best mental strategies to have is positivity. It is something not everyone knows how to practice, or something some people try to practice but can’t always be. If you believe you can do something, you can. Your positivity will lead to your success in life. Furthermore, being positive about things will help brighten your mood. Instead of thinking of the bad things that may happen your thinking of the good. Your thinking of the better things that will come in the future.

I thought about the good things that have happened to me during this move so far and not the unfortunate things. I scratched those. Life is so much more than that one week of having to make new friends. Everyday I thought more positively and it didn’t take long before I stopped dreading waking up and going to school everyday, I actually started enjoying it. I figured out that if you thought so negatively and didn’t care about the good things in life then your going to become the way you think, people are going to portray you as a negative and depressing person and that is not how I wanted to be. Like I was saying your mind and thoughts are very powerful. Stop thinking about the things that just might go wrong and think about the things that have and will go right. This will boost your self esteem and will bring ease and comfort for yourself. Every day won’t seem so monotonous and being positive will decrease your stress level by a lot. After reading Barbara Ehrenreich’s Bright-Sided I have learned that balancing both positive and negative thinking is the single most important life lesson shown throughout the book. In the chapter “ The Upside of Dreaming” from her book Rethinking Positive Thinking, Gabriele Oettingen explains how positive fantasies are beneficial. Oettingen started out with a story of a college graduate. The college graduate Rachael was dealing with a heartbroken experience with seeing her boyfriend going to jail for selling drugs. Rachael felt as if she had a stay by her boyfriend’s side. She dreamt that the judge or the prosecutor was saying something bad about her boyfriend, Tim and giving him a lot of time in jail. Rachel wanted to defend him, but she knew couldn’t help him.Tim finally went to jail.
The importance dispositional optimism as a facilitator of well-being, positive health, flourishing, and quality of life has been documented in the positive psychology literature. Dispositional optimism evaluated by the LOT-R is a positive personality trait characterized by favorable personal future expectation (Scheier et al., 1994). All of our emotions play a big role in our lives. Even though it does not feel like it at the moment, negative feelings can be a good thing.If we never become sad, angry, or scared we would not be able to appreciate the true value of happiness, we would only focus on ourselves and happiness, and we would become less alert to threats and dangerous situations around us.
We all have special goals and things we aspire to be. Often times, things do not occur exactly how we want them to. Those types of situations can leave us feeling defeated, especially when they go in direct opposition of what we desire. However, thinking pessimistically will only make that situation worse. It is essential to think of that hint of positivity in what you think may be completely negative. Doing this can make the seemingly atrocious events in life a lot more tolerable. You can drastically modify those unfavorable outcomes, even when it feels as if the world is crashing down on you, by taking a positive view of its effects and realizing that everything is meant to happen for a specific reason.
Not only that but also that if things aren't good always keep positive thought on things because everything, as bad as it is, there's some good happening with it.
Give yourself a break and imagine what it would be like to not worry about your finances. Enjoy a moment of reverie that is opposite of what you are worrying about. Notice your feelings - see if you can stay in that feeling or find a way to propagate that feeling within you. Play the game with yourself of "if this were to happen, how would it feel?" Try and place yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally in the picture.

Optimism is generally seen as healthy, while pessimism is generally seen as dangerous. The difference between optimism and pessimism is a difference in perspective and mindset. An optimist has a positive perspective and cheerful mindset, while a pessimist has a negative perspective and a gloomy mindset. There are consequences to both perspectives. But which has better consequences for one’s health? Assuming that it is moderated, pessimism is healthy for a person’s well-being. Pessimism is more realistic than optimism because it prepares people for an unpredictable and possibly negative life. Pessimism is also better for expectations compared to future surprises. Pessimists are either proven right or pleasantly surprised. Pessimism is a healthier mindset to have than optimism.
Stop nurturing negative emotions, thoughts, and beliefs – A good way to avoid nurturing negative thoughts is to stop comparing yourself with others. We should avoid situations that will trigger our temper and try to get rid of the negative thoughts by replacing them with positive thinking and positive thoughts.
Your thoughts trigger images and pictures, and the emotions that go with them. These images and emotions trigger attitudes and actions. Your actions then have consequences and results that determine what happens to you. If you think about success and confidence, you will feel strong and competent, and you will perform better at whatever you attempt. If you think about making mistakes and being embarrassed, you will perform poorly, no matter how good you really are.
Happiness, what is it, and why do we strive to achieve it so persistently? For instance, even the United States Constitution makes reference to the idea that every person has the inalienable right to pursue happiness. This was the resulting outcome of the enlightenment from France, spilling out into the rest of the world from 1650 through 1800. This revolutionized the idea that every single person has the inalienable right to happiness or in different views the right to succeed. As to how one peruses or conjures their happiness that is an entirely different concept and completely up to their preferred preference, but it is something that a person needs to find on their own for true success.
These phycologists have wondered if there are more optimist or pessimists in the world. They have made an attempt to find out what approach is greater or better. There are some advantages to optimism because it makes people feel better about life, however, there are also some advantages to pessimism in that looking at the unfortunate side of things can help some pessimists cope better with the world. Both optimism and pessimism have important roles to play the lives of everybody. Being optimist permits people to go after their goals in a positive way, to dream bigger and better dreams, which they can strive to work towards. Optimist also tend to respond better to positive feedback, and a part of being an optimist may be producing this feedback for themselves, example, thinking positive thoughts. While on the other hand, being pessimistic may help people to better acknowledge negative feedback and reduce their natural anxiety to perform better. Once again, part of the reason why pessimist generates negative thoughts is that it helps them perform a lot better. People tend to utilize both optimism and pessimism in order for them gain out of their advantages.
