The Best Candidate for the Presidency
As this election 2000 is coming, each candidate is working very hard. They are doing debates, electoral campaigns all over the country in order to get more popular votes and therefore get the electoral votes they need to be the next president of the United States. In all of the inquiries that the media did in most of the states, Al Gore seems to be the favorite one, because he knows what he is doing, he has enough experience to rule our country, and he also has very interesting positions in the issues that he proposed to the American people.
Albert Gore, Jr., was born in Washington D.C on March 31, 1948. His mother was Mrs. Pauline Lafon Gore and his father was Albert Gore, Sr. As Governor Bush, Al Gore has a father who was in the political business; his father was a Democratic congressman and senator from Tennessee. Gore graduated from Harvard University in 1969 with a Bachelor's degree in government. While he was studying in Harvard, he was linked with drugs like marijuana that made his father mad at him, and he almost lost everything he got, so he decided to quit and never do that again. Although Gore opposed U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, he accepted induction into the United States Army and served as a military reporter. Upon his return home, and until 1976, he worked as an investigative reporter and editorial writer for the "The Tennessean" a Nashville newspaper. Gore married Mary Elizabeth "Tipper" Aitcheson on May 19, 1976 and they have four children. Gore was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives several times and he also was elected to the U.S. Senate and as member of Congress, he earned a reputation as an authority on arms and environmental issues. After that, Gore ran unsuccessfully for the democratic presidential nomination 1988. In 1992 Al Gore was the running mate of Bill Clinton, also in this year he wrote "Earth in Balance" which is a book that talks about environmental issues. Clinton defeated the incumbent Republican President, George Bush, and Al Gore became Vice-President in 1993, finally they were reelected in 1996 and in 1999 Gore announced his candidacy for President in the 2000 election.
Al Gore has stated his position on a number of issues; some of his position more important are in education, health care, taxes, and Social Security.
Descartes succeeded in some parts of his proof for the existence of God, but failed in proving God’s existence from a logical point of view. Most religions prove that anybody can be right in his own description of existence of God. So, Descartes is right in his own way, but to others to accept his idea is totally up to them. No one is certain that God exists. Although there are many causes that could make one believe God is for certain, those causes which might be perceived, does not necessarily make them true.
Abraham Lincoln is regarded by many Americans as the greatest president to ever hold office in the history of the United States, and his reputation is definitely well deserved. Lincoln wasn't scared to stand up and fight for what he knew was right. He was convinced that within the branches of government, the presidency alone was empowered not only to uphold the Constitution, but also to protect, and defend it. Lincoln was able to lead our country and preserve the Union, keeping the United States from splintering during the devastating times of the Civil War. As President, he built the Republican Party into a strong national organization, and he rallied most of the northern Democrats to the Union cause. On January 1, 1863, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that changed the war into a battle for freedom and declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy. That November, Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address, which stated how a country must be dedicated to human freedom in order to survive. He dedicated the battlefield to the soldiers who had perished, and called on the living to finish the task the dead soldiers had begun. (Donald, 1995) Lincoln believed that democracy could be a lasting form of government. He showed a nobility of character that had worldwide appeal, and he was a man of great integrity. However, Lincoln was not only the 16th president of the United States, he was an American hero. Lincoln was a well-rounded individual and he had numerous outstanding qualities. However, it is important to remember that Lincoln also led a private life, complete with close friends and family.
It is, indeed, somewhat farfetched to assume Descartes’ intentions in the text, but given that expressing what would entail rejecting all established theological opinions, perhaps he, like many writers, decided to take a literary approach. For it seems that, while accomplishing the task of making readers realize uncertainty, the text convinced few who were not already faithful in the existence of God. And, seeing that the circular argument fallacy is quite obvious and unmistakable for anyone, it would be odd to think that Descartes’ himself was convinced by it, and more natural to think that he encountered the problem but continued out of some intention.
... and modernization of its ship yards to support warship development that is equal to or exceeding what is produced elsewhere. This will ensure China’s ability to control safe passage through the East and South China Sea, without relying on or being hindered by the possibility of sea tread embargo.
The first conclusion that he comes to is that due to the five premises, God had to have been the entity that placed the ideas of God into Descartes’ mind (157). Through the five premises, Descartes casts out the idea of his thoughts of God coming from inside of himself, and he is able to pin the cause to God. In short, Descartes argues that he is a thinking thing with an idea of God that could not in any way originated from himself due to his imperfect nature. After determining that God must have been the entity to put the ideas into his mind, Descartes’ finalizes his argument with one last conclusion; God must exist (157). After determining that there was no other way that the ideas of God could have came from anywhere else but God, Descartes was able to come to the conclusion that God
Irvin D. Yalom, author of the book The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy, has vast knowledge and experience with group therapy and, in this book, imparted it to neophyte counselors in a logical and detailed format. The author carefully explained the therapeutic value of a group, the factors necessary to facilitate change, and the role of the therapist. The author emphasized the here-and-now focus, and how group members create a social microcosm of their life within the therapy group. Yalom advised on practical matters, like the selection of clients and the creation of the group. He then carefully explored the stages that groups move through and some problem members could encounter.
Understanding Descartes’ philosophy begins with understanding his method of doubt. Think about it like this. Almost everything you believe to be true comes from the senses or through the senses. However, the senses are sometimes deceptive. Since the senses are not completely trustworthy, it is irrational to place complete trust in them. However it is no small leap of faith to presume that everything our senses tells us is false. In fact, it seems almost preposterous to say such a thing. But as Descartes points out, we have dreams regularly and in these dreams everything we experience is a figment of our imagination, or at least not real in the physical sense. So, at least according to Descartes, it is reasonable to doubt everything our senses tell us, for the time being. Now, using similar logic, we can say that everything we have learned from physics, astronomy, medicine, and other such fields are all doubtful. Descartes even believed we could say that such simple, logical statements as 2+3 = 5 or a square has 4 sides could be conceived to be false. “Since I judge that others sometimes make mistakes in matters that they believe they know most perfectly, may I not, in like fashion, be deceived every time I add two and three or count the sides of a square…'; We are now at the point where we are doubting everything – the world around us, that we have a body, and anything else that we could possibly...
Firstly, Descartes talks about “proofs” of the existence of God, explained in his third and fifth meditation. Meaning, his proofs are shown by experiment to prove that God exists. He reinterprets Archimedes ' saying, “required only one fixed and immovable point to move the whole earth from its place, I can hope for great things if I can even find one small thing that is certain and unshakeable (Descartes 159).” That he could shift the entire earth

... God is real. Descartes claims that if an evil god exists and that this evil power is always tricking him then he must be real. He thought since he is capably of thinking of a god then god must be real, yet he keeps the thought in mind that he is probably not the first to think of god. Descartes explains that he is not an infinite thing but god is infinite because the thought of him continues.

Firstly, Descartes made the mistake of supporting a conclusion with premises that can only be true if the conclusion was a premise for the other premises that were supporting it. To clarify, Descartes basically stated that the clarity of his reasoning and perceptions are only possible through the existence of a non-deceiving God and that the non-deceiving God can only be proved through the clear reasoning and perceptions that the non-deceiving God bestowed upon him (51, 52). This is clearly a...
When on is considering a threat to National Security to the United States, one must consider their intelligence capabilities. As they play a significant role in determining the outcome of any war. Another important factor is the size of the military. Having more people in the military will allow them use more resources, as well as fighting power. It’s estimated that China has 618,588,627 fit for military duty (fire power). That is extremely way more compared to the US who has 120,022,084…). Another vital factor is resources. China has more tanks, tower artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, Frigates, and costal defense craft. Even recently there was 5 Chinese hackers charge with espionage, this attest to why China is the biggest threat to US national security.
There are few faults in Descartes’ views, but few nonetheless. For one, Descartes reasoning for his cogito argument is flawed. Descartes proposes the idea of defective nature doubt and that instead of being created by god he was created by an evil genius, an evil genius that has created him as a deceived person and therefore his judgement and perception of reality is that of a defective nature. Descartes admits that he is not able to correctly perceive reality and therefore dismissing his own use of logic, but immediately after that explanation of his doubt Descartes uses his logic to produce an argument for his existence. How can Descartes be sure that he is not being deceived by his defective nature when coming to this conclusion? He cannot.
Having proved that these methods work, Descartes would then use them to answer his original question. Proving that he was a real thing that was capable of thinking, he would then reason out that a God does exist. By understanding that he is a thinking thing, and this thinking thing in itself is perceived as the soul; is flawed. It is flawed because he doubted his perception of senses. He originally stated that because his senses are deceitful, they are then untrue; but through the understanding of,
