The purpose of this paper is to show the benefits of tablets verses textbooks.
Back when my parents were in school they were required to do their reports with the help of the good old encyclopedia. This required numerous trips to the local library and heavy book bags. At that time computers didn’t have the benefit of the worldwide web. As time has gone by, technology has advanced numerously. The world is growing and we must grow and adapt to it.
The benefits of a tablet far out-weight the old school textbooks. You can fit several volumes on a tiny tablet that weighs less than a pound. You have the benefit of surfing the web to utilize other resources. You can access libraries all over the world without leaving your couch.
The downside of textbooks is that you’re not able to change the text that is already printed in the book, information changes constantly and tablets are able to adapt to these changes, resources in the web change constantly.
With tables there are many technological features that is not available with the textbook. Tablets are given differen...
In addition, textbooks are heavy to carry around and it takes longer to find a page. Likewise with digital textbooks they are compatible with tablets, smartphones, and laptops; it’s much easier to carry around and affordable price. However, some people may argue that digital textbooks can be a distraction for people because they would not bother read anymore. The author and poet Dana Gioia argues that electronics alternatives may be a bad influence that will lead society to not read anymore. Gioia complicates matters further when she writes, “While no single activity is responsible for the decline in reading, the cumulative presence and availability of electronic alternatives increasingly have drawn Americans away from reading” (161). I think Gioia is mistaken because she overlooks on electronics being a bad influence; but doesn’t see the benefits of electronics. To demonstrate, most of my textbooks are digital, which I can easily carry my tablet around where ever I go. Also, I save more money on digital textbooks and are simple to annotated the text. Journalist Ellen Lee interview a student from Liberty University, and he states that he prefers digital textbooks because he can tap his iPad, opens the digital copy and quickly open the page. Nevertheless, he also like digital textbooks because it has a feature that allows to highlight and mark the
We’re learning simpler ways to do things in our everyday lives. We’re beginning to rely on technology to give us the answers, which is nice. I myself use google and the many other resources that technology provides. Most often you can find my phone in my hands. However, I sometimes feel the need to just open a book or do research the old way. Technology is so useful and I agree that it’s great for everything, but it’s almost brainwashing. We’re constantly relying on it to do most everything for us. Need to find something, just type the description into the search engine and millions of links, videos, articles, pictures, and discussions will appear. Everything we need and need to know is at our
... I’d rather have paper to write down and make my own citations and marks depending on the subject, but if I’m reading a novel, then using a tablet is great, and I’m able to carry as many books as I need. It’s amazing how technology has shaped our educational system over the years and especially in the last 10 years. Honestly, it was only a matter of time before we arrived at this crossroad. It still remains to be seen how this path will be navigated and implemented fully, but I’m excited to be on the journey.
Internet sources are becoming great source for research and educational purposes. Among the main reasons for this are the easy access it provides, the different views that you can get about a certain topic and the different concepts about it all in one paper. This is important especially for me since I am gathering information in order to write my paper. There are different links and videos as well that I can use making my research the easier. This is more than I can get if I will be using the old timer encyclopedia. Also, with the internet, there are always new sources available that I can use and I can check my sources from the old one to the new one.
From a parent’s standpoint, there are many benefits to a tablet. It replaces an entire closet of toys and can travel just about anywhere so there is no more arguing over how many toys to pack. There are no more lost pieces and cleanup is a breeze. There are no more emergencies when the batteries run down and the only maintenance needed is an occasional recharge.
This phenomenon leads student to change their studying method of carrying every subjects’ textbook in their backpack to just bring a tablet to school. The students will not complain about having to carry a heavy load on their
The first advantage would be teachers embracing tech in the classroom.Teachers embrace tech as a teaching tool in a way the students will understand.According to Eric board when students took an assignment of translating passages of Othello into other dialects, some students used the texting dialect,”resulting in some very interesting dialogue between lago and othello. The kind of technology teachers are embracing on are high tech calculators,Ipads, smartboards, and a variety of sites.Today’s high tech calculators don’t just calculate certain equations but also graph equations, how to find the greatest common factor, and even get a larger view or smaller view of the graph. The use of ipads in the classroom is useful for both the teacher and the student. For the students the ipad can give them some hints on the problem their solving and maybe even keep a record of their grades that certain student has so they can easily check up on them at any time. While for the teachers they can easily set up tests and quizzes and even grade assignments quickly and effecently.Although some teachers still use regular boards, most teachers use smart boards to teach. These boards are like ordinary boards except these are controlled by remote control pen.By just clicking on the board questions can be written...
However, iIn spite of the current pre-eminence of e-books, it may be argued that they are not likely to replace print books anytime soon or possibly at all. Both formats have their advantages and drawbacks, which makes for one of them difficult to replace the other. Moreover, they serve differents needs and purposes. E-books are famous for their portability. Hundreds of e-books can be stored on a single device. Thus e-books don’t take shelving space and are convenient to take on travel, while even a few paper books are bulky and quite heavy to carry around. Numerous e-books are in open access, while paper books are not routinely available free of charge. E-books may be acquired and accessed immediately online, a feature I enjoy especially and treasure most: many a time I was able to buy and read an e-book at home within minutes of learning of its existence. Needless to say, e-books are considerably easier to cite and quote than print books, since the copy-paste feature spares us the trouble of retyping the quoted text. Another important advantage of digital books is their specialized software, which makes reading much easier: search and reference tools, changeable font size and day/night mode, dictionaries. Last but not least, e-books conserv...
As more people began to access the Internet through smart phones and tablets rather than laptops and computers, it is not a surprise that they would also want to transform the American education system by bringing tablets into classrooms. In fact, a few schools around the country have already replaced textbooks with tablets and have seen improvements in students’ standardized test scores. Using tablets instead of textbooks is not only convenient and helpful, but it can also reduce the amount of paper wastes in school. However, it is not a good idea to completely transform textbooks with tablets with the current technology, for it can not only be damaging to the environment and costly to set up, but also might not be effective in improving K-12 education in the long run.
Today is an era of information explosion. In the past few years, many newly invented technological devices and software are now tightly integrated with our everyday lives. Today, people can look up almost any kind of information, make friends, communicate with others, and express ourselves with the simple touch of a button on a device we usually keep within arm’s reach. “Widespread use of technology is changing the way we work, learn, and communicate – even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities.”(Seifer and Mihalynuk) These devices not only benefit our livelihoods and increase our happiness, but they are also integral in advancing education, technology, development, and, in general, human evolution. The children of today, who have been raised in this era of information explosion, will undoubtedly reap such benefits and, in turn, advance society towards a better generation.
Getting educated is one of the most important things in life when it comes to getting a good future. By developing good knowledge of schooling, it helps establish and maintain new information as needed throughout the real world. As books are one the essential tools in learning, eBooks are being used in a everyday lifestyle. Traveling to get away places from city life, helps give reading a comforting feel. Students that use print books are eventually going to use ebooks in the future. By educating students with ebooks, it is more efficient than carrying textbooks; ebooks is more convenient and reliable to read, write and store notes. Print books are being replaced by eBooks, it helps on keeping files together and it makes notes
As everyone has heard many times before, the Internet has greatly changed how we view our world. In particular, it has changed how we receive our information. In the past, it has always been through reading, but with technology, that isn’t always true anymore. Reading just isn’t the best way to learn for everyone. I’ve always loved reading since I learned how.
Ever since I was in elementary school I was introduced to working with computers. If it was from writing a paper, playing computer games, or using the many resources on the Internet, the computer has always been on my beckoning call. I could never imagine not being able to use the computer and its many possibilities to find information. I was taught at first to be able to find books in the library and to find information out of books, but this was when the Internet was not as popular. Today the very first thing that I would go to help me with a report is the Internet and the computer. Itðs as thought I donðt really remember how to use the library to find a resource I need because I am so used to the computer.
It is a constant truth that technology is growing rapidly and it is opening up many opportunities for students as well as teachers. Through the use of the internet information that would take scholars months to acquire out and interpret can be found in less than a minute though a Google search and not only is the information their, but in many cases the information that you wanted is shown in bolded so it can even be found quicker.
Textbooks are superior to technology in terms of flaws and problems, they do not run on battery which needs to be charged almost everyday, they do not crash, they do not freeze, they do not lag, and they do not run on WiFi, so if you do not have the proper quality WiFi your textbook will take time to load. Another problem is when you have to charge your device but your
