There has been a time in the past when young adults were forced to accomplish public service. During the period of World War II for example, men were enrolled by force into the military. Then in the later years, this enrollment was made voluntary. Some people are still nostalgic to the period when young adults were mandatorily put in the military and want young adults to work for a year in public service not only in the military but all fields of government. On one hand, I believe that public service is beneficial, on the other hand I wonder about the timing and the duration in addition to raising the question of people’s legal rights.
The benefits of doing public service will be translated for young adults into gaining professional skills,

Everyone knows that education is correctly assimilated when it is continuous. A break in education may have negative consequences on students’ education. Already, people who go to school and work at the same time have hard time following a normal curriculum in school. Also, putting the public service after college is going to be seen as a lack of opportunity for students. Just after college is the period when students are fresh of their knowledge acquired from their education and ready to conquer the job market. This delay in working will also impacts their ability to quickly repay their loans. In a society where credit score affects all people’s financial activities, it is important to have a very good credit score; this means, not damaged by a high student loan. I strongly believe that one year of the public service can positively be shorten to some months of public services. In fact, it takes three or four months for a regular trainee who does an internship in a company to know how the company works. Another important issue concern the people’s legal rights. It brings to whether people should decide their own future or be dictated by the government. In that way, people who advocate freedom rights will negatively see the enrollment of young adults into public …show more content…
Among these advantages, we can list professional skills, work ethic, knowledge of government and love of one’s country. If school gives knowledge, it is in the working place that this knowledge is shown. Being a good worker is not only showing professional skills, it is also being on time at work, getting along with co-workers, giving respect to the supervisor, all this will be learned by young adults. Public service will also open young adults’ eyes to the making of the laws in their communities. Not the least, working in the military for example will make young adults have a love of their country. On the negative side of doing public service, there is the discontinuation of education, loss of opportunity, and most importantly the involvement of government in people’s civil rights. Other aspects that also will certainly financially diminish young people will be their inability to perform their profession just after finishing their studies; as a consequence, it will have an impact on the reimbursement of their student loans . These two financial effects are understood in the situation when public service work is required after the completion of young adults’ studies. Through public service, young adults will learn and obtain skills, that will benefit them in their workplace as well in their
The young people are now able to embrace the constitution and civic education courtesy of the 26th amendment. Most of the 18-year olds become more responsible and start acting as adults who put matters of national concern into great consideration. The young people are able to exchange nationalistic ideas and come up with solutions to some of the matters affecting the nation. The flexibility of the constitution has inspired patriotism especially from the younger generations who identify with it because it is tailored to cater for their ever-changing needs and challenges. Many of the young people are able to participate in measures taken by the government in times of calamity such as hurricanes through volunteering as rescuers or giving contributions to the people affected by such
The amount of funding for education was the most difficult to determine. This education system seems to be very inefficient and the huge backlog of teacher pensions restricted the more favorable budget. Well educated students leads to a more productive economy but there are many who do not take ad...
volunteering is important in the public sector because it helps the public services save money other than the military as the military reservists get paid but it is still voluntary. I got all my information from the websites which are for the organisation. the benefits of volunteering are:
Plenty of people receive satisfaction from assisting other people. A person who enjoys helping others may also enjoy a career within public service. Careers of public service are jobs carried out for the benefit of the community and others. To a man seeking such a career, the novel For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway would be inspirational. Within the novel, the American protagonist, Robert Jordan, is tasked with exploding a bridge behind enemy lines to help the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War.
Community service is something that I have always engaged. In college, I worked with chemically dependent children as both a caretaker and a mentor. After I graduated, I taught at-risk children in a community youth outreach program. To remain involved and aware of the focus of my studies during my first year of law school, I volunteered at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center teaching youth their basic legal rights. Essentially, we strove to empower kids by providing practical information about the legal system and to help them develop more favora...
The benefits of the military have grown excessively, the military offers so many good benefits that it is almost a crim not to take advantage of them. The Military is an excellent career choice that presents its soldiers with outstanding benefits and experiences.
Private good prevails over public good, as people tend to act in their self-interest. They want what they think will propel their life forward. Private good only gives us a temporary pleasure that influences us to want more. On the other hand, public good generates a sense of contentment to the individual, which can spread to the rest of society. Ideally, public good should be more pursued for an individual to embrace a good life as it encompasses happiness that private good cannot produce. “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and “The Prisoner Who Wore Glasses” demonstrate how people make choices for their own benefit, one where a family’s privacy is violated and the other where bribery reigns. Both readings also illustrate that interest in the public good would help maintain a good life and the outcome of the choices would be favorable to the majority.
Compulsory service programs, already functioning in many communities, typically giving students four years to complete, say, 60 hours of labor. The students must not receive any payment. They can choose whether to serve the elderly, or the poor, or the disabled, so long as they serve others rather than themselves.
(Isaac, Newton). Analogous to the duty of Americans to protect and serve for interest of country. Two years of compulsory service can provide useful skills to young adults for a life time and the reason to enact conscription. To most young adults the first question is,” how is this going to benefit me?” “What do I get out of it?” First, military service can give a young adult direction in life. If a young man or women is not sure of where or what they want to do or be in life they can fulfill their commitment to two years of service while they decide what they want to pursue in life. Service can also provide opportunities to pursue new interest, new trade skills or finite and master skills. Compulsory service can also provide a young adult with life skills that can be beneficial throughout life. A two year commitment can insure communications skills which will be beneficial in the future and are essential skills to both personal and professional lives. Additionally, implementation of conscription builds leadership and the keys to success. Service can also provide young adults with healthy choice in life, whether it be physical fitness, mental stability, being an active member of society or having self-confidence. These are all attributes earned by serving and a reason that compulsory service is useful to young
Youth of today are taking longer to complete the transition into adulthood compared to youth of twenty-five years ago. Changes in education and the benefit system may be responsible for the altered state of transition in current youth (Keep, 2011) which is an assumption that will be explored. In regards to this; this essay will cover youth transition and will look at how the restructuring of polices and legislations have affected youths transition in to adulthood. Furthermore the manner in which political ideologies and perspectives have altered factors such as education, employment, housing and benefits will be examined. Once a full explanation has been provided; the fundamental question that needs to be answered is; are the teenagers of today embattled or empowered?
A soldier, conscripted or not, will face many stresses during their career. Serving for any amount of time is a trial, but some are more suited to the military than others. A drafted soldier may go through their entire mandatory term feeling miserable and insufficient, completely overwhelmed by the tasks that military professionals easily complete. These pressures and the denial of a choice of career should not be placed on any person. The idea of a two-year term of mandatory military service being implanted has been brought up. Military service should not be mandatory not only because it violates fundamental individual rights of humans, but also due to the fact that a military based on volunteers would operate much more impressively than one comprised of conscripted soldiers who would not have chosen to serve otherwise.
The New Public Management plays a valuable role as a policy tool and as a means by which to advance rhetoric of efficiency, prudence and efficacy in state management, at a time when these values had re-emerged as a primary driving force behind mass-liberation of national economies and the international political economy in general . This new policy was implemented with a mind to change the old running of the public sector into a new form by imitating the business style of the private sector. This is because some of the politicians felt that the public servants lucked the drive and determination of the many citizens that worked outside of the public sector. So the idea was to become more like the private sector in terms of implementing better services to the citizens, as well as being more challenging when producing policies which conflict with others in the public sector. One of the major reasons why this policy gained more than enough support in earlier years was as a result of the Cold War.
As an educated professional in my community, I would like to make a contribution to society and my community. My background in hours of community service has prepared me for this and shown me its value.
I have known for a long time that I would love to have a career in public service; thus, I pursued my bachelor’s degree in the department of Public Administration at Selcuk University, Turkey. In Turkey, enrollment to the university is based on one’s performance in central examination. Fortunately, my score in that exam allowed me to study in one of the best universities, Selcuk University. After four years of my undergraduate, I applied and was awarded to Ministry of National Education’s scholarship, which sponsors my master and doctorate degree abroad.
If they are happy with their future, then they can make a nation happy with their work. they can develop the power of making important decision regarding their lives and country as well but this is only possible if they are educated enough to take this step. Last but not least reason is that students in college would be able to focus on their courses more to get the best grades in their classes because they don’t have to worry about their fee in the college. In my opinion college education should be free for everyone this can help the country growing faster in every aspect of it. government should look into it and really do something about it because this is the only way we can at least educate our children. Even if education somehow would not make them successful in life but it would surely make them better
