It means how everyone can harmonize their desires, ambitions, capacities, ideas, feelings, and consciousness in order to cope with the demands of life. There is no clear delimitation between health and mental illness. None of its features can be taken as a single mental health proof, nor is the absence of anyone a proof of mental illness. No one possesses at all times all the characteristic features of perfect mental health. People with mental …show more content…

I have used the recommended reading list in the course handbook to write this essay, yet it has taken me several pages and numerous edits to produce this final script. In order to avoid confusion in style, I consulted mainly two books but paid particular attention to Gimenez J (2007) Writing for nursing and midwifery students Palgrave. I used the sample essay as a template for my work since I found it strange to follow the style required. There does not seem to be enough time to complete this work since I have to attend nursing placements and prepare for my next assignment as well as the exams. The referencing was difficult since the article contains several references which I did not read, but was included in the article, but I need to mention a few which I referred to in my work. I have explored how the NMC 2008 Code underpins the professional role of mental health nurses and the professional obligation we have to follow. My academic skills in reading and writing are demonstrated in accomplishing my task. I struggled with planning and arrangement of paragraphs by topic, but the word processing was a routine task which I have control over because I have normal typing and word processing skills to Royal Society of Arts

The TED Talk referenced in this paper made some great points regarding health care for those who have mental health illnesses and how the life expectancy gap can be around 20 years less for those who suffer from a mental health disorder (Patel, 2016). Quality of Life (QOL) and the Disability-Adjusted Life Year (DALY) are two things that classify burden of disease for those who suffer from illnesses, and not just mental health illnesses but also from medical disorders such as pneumonia. The main point of Patel’s TED talk was that the vast majority of those who need care do not receive it and the shortage of mental health professionals around the world has become a problem, and his solution to this is appointing lay counselors who are trained
Mental health is our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we feel, think, and act. It helps determine how we handle stress and how we make choices. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, such as biological factors, life experiences, and family history of mental health problems. Because of how enormous this problem is in our world and how many people it affects, the programs on mental health are the largest funder of research in the world. The national government offers a program for mental health research in the Department of Health and Human Services that is used by many people today. I do see this program being effective and reasonable because of the research and help it gives people.
Mental health is commonly used to connect or to refer issues dealing with ‘mental illnesses’. However, mental health services can cause some confusion when trying to understand the difference between the two terms, mental health and mental illnesses. Common examples that are exposed on daily bases are depression, anxiety, psychosis, and eating disorders. Mental health or “mental wellbeing” is a concept that is more than the visible of mental illnesses. Now a day’s people tend to use the term “mental illness” more as a fashion statement or trend, rather than using its real terminology. "Dismissing mental illness as a trendy fad is not just stupid, it’s dangerous,” said Dr. Brian Semple. These “trends” are the creation on how society perceives mental health and it is based on their social distance and their fear, pity, and or anger towards someone or something that cause these terms to be misused.
Mental health has been often misunderstood and neglected in the field of health sector (WHO, 2005). On realizing the importance of mental well being of people, several policies and frameworks have been formulated to promote mental health and well being (Henderson, Andrews and Hall, 1999). The most common definition of mental health as defined by WHO (1991) states, “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community” (as cited in WHO, 2005). In simple words, mental health is much more than its general interpretation in terms of mental illness or behavioral problems (WHO,

This is followed by a discussion regarding the value of sociological research into the issue determining the available or possible practical implications of the sociological inquiry. There have been many theorists that have tried to give a definition to the concept of mental health. Many of these theories deal with the different aspects of individual functioning. If someone was to ask me what mental health means, I would say it deals with a person and their condition regarding their psychological and emotional well-being. When someones mental health is not well, they may have a minor condition and have some forgetfulness or they might have a serious condition to where they don't even know how to function on a daily basis. Our mental health deals with more than just our mind, it also includes our psychological, social, emotional well being. It affects our day to day lives with how we think, feel and act as we go through

While the definition can be interpreted differently and can vary from person to person, the U.S. Department of Mental Health and Services defines mental health as, “our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.” (What Is Mental Health?) While some of this appears to sound like common sense and one might assume most people understand what mental health awareness is, it is more important to understand that in our ever-changing, forward thinking, fast paced times, people don’t reflect upon and take care of their mental health quite as much as we would hope, and it would be beneficial to consider the importance of improving, maintaining, and sustaining one’s mental
