I think medical marijuana should be legal for the purpose of treatment to patients who are suffering. It is a safer substance than most of the narcotics that patients are prescribed that have discomforting side effects. For example Lester Grinspoon, MD, Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School says: “Marijuana is effective at relieving nausea and vomiting, spasticity, appetite loss, certain types of pain, and other debilitating symptoms. And it is extraordinarily safe -- safer than most medicines prescribed every day. If marijuana were a new discovery rather than a well-known substance carrying cultural and political baggage, it would be hailed as a wonder drug."

There are many ways that you can misuse prescribed medicine and they can cause heavy addictions. A dependency for the drug can commonly occur, since the medicine can affect the brain and system. After the user has been using it for a certain period of time the brain and body continues to want what its been given since the user started. Most times when people are “addicted” to marijuana they don’t take into account the other things they may have been using with it. Abusing prescribed medicine is much more harmful than marijuana. They have very potentially dangerous symptoms and can lead to death or respiratory problems. There are plenty of ways, for example you could vaporize (which is much healthier than smoking), you could do edibles, you could make drinks, and there are pills that you can take that don't even get you high, for the people who don't feel comfortable with the drug anyways. People are just coming up with excuses to not legalize it because its still seen as only a drug. People should set aside their opinion of it and see through the eyes of a doctor or scientist because then you can really see the true potential that marijuana has for medical use. Scientist don't know the extent of marijuana's ability as a medicine yet but as they continue their research they find more and more reason to legalize
