A family is sitting together on the couch watching their favorite TV show. Suddenly, the father turns to the news channel. A shooting at a local bank has killed fifteen people so far. Many are still being held hostage. Gun control should be more regulated because people abuse the privilege, everyone would be safer, and violence would decrease. Many people argue that gun control laws do not have to be more regulated but people abuse the privilege more than one may think. “According to FBI statistics, 46, 313 Americans were murdered during the time period of 2007 to 2011. This translates to an average of 9,263 murders per year.” There was about one murder every hour. These murders involved guns. If gun control laws are enhanced then everyone would be safer. There would be less crime and no one would have to be as concerned. That would be a huge benefit to us all. According to JustFacts, “12% of Americans will be the victims of a complete violent crime in the course of their lives. 83% of Americans will be the victim of an attempted or completed crime. 52% of Americans will be the victim of an attempted or completed crime more than once.” Obviously many Americans have been involved in a violent gun act. Many probably live in fear. Maybe someone suffers from trauma after an incident like this happened. People who commit these crimes do not even stay in prison for that long. According to a ABC news report, “Murder rates remain same in tough gun law states” was the headline. “The National Rifle Association claimed the research of this had no effect on crime.” But there are other articles that say that crime rates have gone down since gun laws were more regulated in certain states. Perhaps people just did not obey it in a certain state. Maybe it was harder to control. “A new study finds that murder rates did not drop any faster when states had stricter gun laws.” Most American now support more gun control laws. The laws could not have been strict enough there. There are many reasons why it could not have worked. There are many reasons why there should be more control laws. Gun control is an increasing issue in the United States. Everyday more and more people are becoming victims. If gun control stays the same, it is likely to get worse.
