Humans with wings, super strength, and able to breath under water. That’s how the public views genetic engineering that’s why In the last few recent years, genetic engineering became one of the most trending and controversial topics. Whether in terms of ethics, science, and even safety. Genetics are part of every living organism so it plays a huge role in every human’s life. According to Sciencegroup.org genetic engineering is “Genetic engineering is normally taken to mean recombinant DNA technology -- the artificial addition, deletion or rearrangement of sequences of bases in DNA in order to alter the observable form and function of an organism.” The first successful genetic engineering experiments were established by Herbert Boyer and Stanley …show more content…

The cartoonist 's focus in this cartoon is to raise awareness about the danger of misusing genetic engineering. In this cartoon the cartoonist is trying to say that genetic engineering is misused and wasted on unnecessary tests the cartoonist made this cartoon to point out that Genetic engineering scientist are wasting time on useless experiment. Genetic engineering can be used in a better way for example, to treat genetic diseases like down syndrome. It can also be used to build an immune system against diseases or eliminate dangerous diseases that are difficult to treat through medicine like cancer. Genetic engineering can be used also for animals to eliminate unwanted traits of an animal, and can be beneficial for plants. We can have plants that have healing abilities that way the body can always be healthy through eating different types of food. Despite all this the cartoonist is warning us from using genetic engineering because it might lead to a huge …show more content…

In the cartoon, you can see that the cartoonist used a baby as the test subject, which shows that the scientist do not mind using baby as test subjects for the sake of “science”. The baby has an onion, and a turnip attached to both his legs and head, and the first scientist says “Through the miracle of modern science, we have infused a human embryo with the DNA of a trout and a turnip.” These are useless traits to have on a newborn, and might lead to the baby’s death. But from the scientist point of view it is a great breakthrough in genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is banned in most countries and according to Aljazera.com “Some prominent scientists in the US have called for a moratorium or ban on the genetic modification of children and future generations, after major developments in genetic engineering and synthetic biology, which, they say, could potentially have irreversible and monumental effects on humanity.” This states that genetic engineering is irreversible, so that means the newborn is going to have to live like that for life. Using a newborn from the cartoonist also shows that the newborn was not the one who made the decision on whether to be experimented on or not, but it was the scientist who
