The Belbin Exercise
Introduction
During term 1 of our module I took part in 2 exercises and a Belbin test. During the 2 exercises and test I learned many skills and new ideas that will aid me in the future.
Report
The first element of group work that we did was the Belbin exercise.
This was to ascertain you’re most effective ‘group role’. From the results we were arranged into groups which contained a mixture of roles. My role was company worker. I neither agreed nor disagreed with the result as part of me could see the logic behind the result and part of me saw myself with a position of higher authority. I don’t think the way the groups were formed made any difference in the first exercise. Maybe under different circumstances our different

In the first exercise we were in smaller groups, my group contained seven people, including myself. During this exercise all group members contributed evenly. In the second exercise we worked in a much larger group, I noticed that some people didn’t contribute at all and the bulk of the discussion was coming from the same people.
Although this happened the exercise was done swiftly and effectively.
Good communication skills were demonstrated during the second exercise. Group members put their point across in an orderly way and the other group members listened well and contributed. During this exercise we didn’t necessarily have a strategy but we did operate a good effective system. We had one person that people fed information to, and that person then made notes of the information onto the whiteboard. Once all the information was gathered we were then able to come to a conclusion.
My group also showed good communication skills in the first exercise.
We had to come up with a group opinion of which person deserved the use of the available kidney machine. The way we came to our decision was to firstly decide a priority order individually, then by using
To start off, the words “hearth” and “salamander” have very different connotations in the story. As a matter of fact, the hearth and the salamander are both known to represent fire, something that was a very dominant image in Montag’s life. A hearth is something that heats a home and a salamander is thought to not be able to be destroyed by fire thanks to ancient beliefs. But, I’m sure Ray Bradbury wanted to draw the reader’s attention to the more symbolic meaning of the title. In addition, I believe that he also would want his readers to think “firefighters” when they saw the word salamander, since it is the symbol of the fireman himself. A fire can be seen two different ways; as destructive (the salamander) and non destructive (the hearth). The hearth is a symbol of a warm inviting fire, it is safe and...
I’m convinced that much learning has occurred in this course, both on your part and on mine. So I’m most interested in your telling me what you have learned, rather than asking questions on this exam that require you to demonstrate your learning. So, look back over the course and compose a page each on what you have learned about each of these course objectives.
Emblazoned in their history, there was a time “long ago firemen put fires out instead of going to start them” (6). Long since changed, firemen became “official censors, judges, and executors”, (56) custodians of peace of mind. Salamanders, creatures adapted to living in extreme environments and also the mascot of the firemen. Bradbury uses the salamander in pair with the hearth to exemplify the home. The hearth is the traditional symbol of the home, warm and comforting, but Montag questions those qualities. This issue
In William Golding's Lord of the Flies, a novel that explores the depths of human nature, plot is irrelevant in comparison to the rich symbolism embedded in nearly all components of the story. The theme of the book is the destructive presence of evil as an influence to mankind, which lies within the breakdown of all order and common sense as a group of british boys stranded on a deserted island evolve into a pack of animalistic savages. The clues to this hidden theme behind the storyline are plentiful, as Golding uses a number of objects to represent certain ideologies and moral values.
In addition, there are 33 more students who act as a control group for the post test result. The students were given some quotes with practice paraphrasing from the original source. Furthermore, the test materials were given and accomplished as in-class activities. Weekly paraphrasing homework was due with one practice for one week and turned a week after in class. This practice was due for six weeks long.
In this way, Germanys attempt to destroy its internal perceived enemy, such as the Jewish people, could also be used to show the ideas behind total war. Not only were the Jewish effected, but also ‘churchmen and women, trade unionists, communists (and) homosexuals’. This shows that the concept of ‘total war’ applies to Germany in at least this way, as it was relentless in finding and killing these people. By the end of the war Nazis had killed 6 million Jews. It also shows how the rules pertaining to war had been ignored through WW2. This trend of disregarding the rules continued onto the battlefield. Mustard gas was often used against solders despite being banned by the Geneva convention in the intermittent years between world war one and world war
Since the first seeds sowed, humanity has sought to change the world around them; with this desire, technological advances continue to alter the world around humans. Every advancement comes with the benefit and its drawback. These setbacks create new problems to solve, and new complications after the solution. Still, humanity desires constant improvement to their condition. The cyclical nature of this arrangement brought about humans from hunting and gathering to the moon and the internet. Feats like the latter, unimaginable to early homo sapiens, show that the cycle of achievement followed by impediment create technological progress. Humans need negative influences from technological advances so that the positive influences continue to prevail.
...at last seeing the harsh reality of the world and not the fairytale he was used to. It is unfortunate that he flung himself wholeheartedly into his adulthood because he now has to face the painful realization that youth is a gift which protects those innocent ‘heart[s]’ from a world of troubles. John Grady’s heart was not that lucky. It craved the surreal adventure and got more than a spoonful of life.
There are many characters, settings, objects and events that represent the theme and ideas to the novel. When the main characters are in state of nature, they’re symbolic to the flaws of humanity. In William Golding’s novel “Lord of the Flies” he explores the conflict of humans toward civilization and toward savagery. Savagery rises and civilization falls as the entire spectrum of the dark side occupies the existence of society, when allegory is profound in different aspects throughout the novel.
Alex thought of the man who had been his only relation for as long as he could remember. He had never known his own parents. They had both died in another accident, this one a plane crash, a few weeks after he had been born. He had been brought up by his father's brother (never "uncle"- Ian Rider had hated that word) and had spent fourteen years in the same terraced house in Chelsea, London, between the King's Road and the river. The two of them had always been close. Alex remembered the vacations they'd taken together, the many sports they'd played, the movies they'd seen. They hadn't just been relations, they'd been friends. It was almost impossible to imagine that he would never again see the man, hear his laughter, or twist his arm to get help with his science

Modern society has developed many ways to send and receive information across nations in a matter of seconds, revolutionizing the method of communications from human to human. Progressing from hieroglyphs depicting an average day in the eyes on a pre-modern civilization, to e-mail and texting and the World Wide Web being used to transform an industry of communications into a stage unheard of from our forefathers of technology. Advancements have led us to discoveries never imagined possible with the push of a button as well as making everyday life just that much easier. The need for writing letters and waiting weeks to receive them or having to travel half way across the world has been cut into a tool that literally defines the new age. The internet has not only become the base of how most people reach one another nowadays but the base of how most people do anything nowadays, period. The evolution of technology has drastically altered the entire planet into a day and age where anything we could possibly desire is at our fingertips. Want to view a foreign country without paying to travel? Google street view can literally place in the town you’d wish to see most. Miss last week’s football game? YouTube displays highlights of every game at the push of a button. Bottom line with technology is that if you could think it, it could be accomplished with technology.

The digital age is staring us in the face from the near future. We already see countless instances of digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format, possibilities for that data become endless. Soon we will no longer be inconvenienced with reality; all of our sensory shopping experiences will be converted to digital information and will be fed to us through our computers. Digital information is in a much more malleable format. It can easily be duplicated, changed, or processed by a computer in a fraction of the time that it would take a human brain. This information can than be beamed across the globe through series of cables and satellites, to any specific location, almost immediately.
