Welcome to the weird and wonderful world of me! In case you were
wondering, my name is Lauren Azania Christophene Claudine
Aymer-Jeffrey. It is a long name I know, but my parents gave the last
names of our godparents to my siblings and me.
Talking of siblings, I have three – Reva who is 12 years of age,
Jordan who is 9 years of age and Eboni who is 4 years of age. I am 15
years of age.
I was born on the 16th day of the 8th month 1990 at Greenwich Hospital
– the 1 and only – hospital for the stars!
‘Infamous’ stars like me all go to Albany Secondary School in Enfield,
where, I am in form 11N. My form tutor – Mr Taylor, has been my form
tutor for 4 years in a row which is very fortunate for me as this
means that he knows that although I am a good, intelligent pupil, I am
late most of the time – he doesn’t get any surprises when I am late!
Currently at school, I am in the school council, I am a school prefect
and I am on the yearbook committee. as I am in my last year of school,
I am helping to plan my year’s ‘leaving prom’ and the fundraising for
it, and so I feel I have some authority in the school.
I am of Antiguan/Jamaican descent – my mother’s parents are both from
Antigua which is in the West Indies, and my father’s parents are
Antiguan and Jamaican – also in the West Indies. I am black, have
black afro hair, which I am quite famous for as I have been known to
attend school with GIANT afro! I have deep brown eyes, which all or
most of my family also share. A lot of my family live all around the
world – in countries like America, Canada, Jamaica, Antigua, Spain
e.t.c; and so, to see them I have to travel quite far. This brings me
onto my fears.

While most students have an interest in sports or academics, my interest lies within a different category; yearbook. Being on the River Bluff High School yearbook staff has become such an dominant and meaningful part to my life that I would feel incomplete if I did not share my story.

People say high school is supposed to be the golden years of your life. I don’t know what else in life is to come; however, my philosophy is to live in the moment and make the life you’re living in the present worthwhile into the future, not only for you but for those who surround you. I live my life participating in our community and getting involved in our school. The activities, and the people I’ve formed relationships with, are what have formed me into the person I have become today. The person I am today is not perfect, but I have learned from the mistakes I’ve made. I think the sense of maturity I have developed throughout my life has given me the determination to be the best person I can be. That being said, I would love to be inducted into the National Honor Society and not only represent our school, but represent our generation to the community not as a “selfie” generation but as a generation, with great potential.

There have been musicals, documentaries, researches, panel discussions and even talk shows about hair, hair qualities and hairstyles, even Oprah Gail Winfrey chose hair for the magazine's September 2013 theme. According to Adlman (2013), Oprah Winfrey in a video interview said, Women, we have issues with our hair, [Black women's] hair represents the first thing anyone sees of them, or of ourselves, and so we identify with what our hair looks like. The History of Black Hair: Hair Story by Ayana Byrd and Lori Tharps (2002) is an entertaining, concise survey that follows a mostly sequential path which begins in Africa and ends in America. It details the roots of black hair care in America, from centuries ago to the modern day, outlining how much hair truly signifies much of African culture. “Ever since African civilisations bloomed, hairstyles have been used to indicate a person’s marital status, age, religion, ethnic identity, wealth and rank within the community” (2002:3)
A long time ago I believe it was on April 4, 1928 when my best friend Maya was born. Maya and I lived in the town of Stamps, Arkansas with her grandmother due to the divorce of her parents. During these awful years at the age of 7 Maya went to visit her grandmother when she was raped by her mother’s boyfriend. After this due to the hatred her uncle killed her mother’s boyfriend. She became so traumatized by all of this that she even stopped talking. During this time Maya and I became great friends for you see Maya loved to write and well I was her tool the one object that made her happy as you may already know I am a pencil her best friend. She had a tough childhood but she never gave up she had me. I remember on her most hard nights she would grasp me and write out all her feelings and emotions was her escape and it’s just amazing to know how much you have helped a person. Also where we lived in Stamps, Arkansas was hard because Stamps was a rural and segregated environment. It’s really tough living somewhere where you are not treated equally. She never let go of me I was that person that was there throughout all her struggles during some of the toughest years in her life. I still remember the day she started to write her autobiography with is really known now a days t is called “I know why the caged bird sings” which talks about how her life has been since she was small all the way to the age of 16.Also at the age of 16 I remember when this little boy arrived he just cried and cried I wish I could help him just as I helped Maya but well he was a baby boy Mayas baby boy named Guy. I will always remember the effect of a civil war in Nigeria that left hundreds of thousands of children malnourished. Tens of thousands of the rural population were afflicted with different types of diseases. Malaria fever was prevalent, and it was the main cause of death among children and infants. I can recall vividly sitting in an empty room after the end of the civil war in 1970, and assured my self that I must go beyond the confines of my continent – Africa to seek knowledge so as to assist in alleviating the suffering of my people. After I had graduated from high school, my dream of coming to the United States of America was far fetched reality. At that time in my life, coming to America was almost impossible. My family lost everything during the civil war. The civil war forced my parents to abandon their properties in the northern group of provinces, and returned to their ancestral home in the southern region. The soil is sandy and porous – the region suffers from soil leaching and soil erosion due to torrential rainfall. Harvests from our farms after six months of toiling under the heat of the sun were scanty. We barely eked out a living. Life then was harsh, and the future was blink. In spite of the odds confronting me, I was determined to forge ahead no matter what.

My mom has always been known as the one who is constantly late to everything because she would do everything at the last minute. It would irritate me because I had to wait around for her to pick me up from somewhere because she would forget and then wouldn't answer her phone when I called. After experiencing the annoyance and frustration countless times, I vowed that I would always be punctual.
