The sequence of words above are those things that comes from Malcolm X that more or less have changed many people perspectives toward their future. Same as others, I have choose to read ‘The Autobiography of Malcolm X’ by Alex Harley for my book review assignment of EDC 3362. The main reason why I choose this book is because the main theme of ‘The Autobiography of Malcolm X’ is dealing with our contemporary moral issue which is about the challenged that faced by African-American because of the oppression from white people. Some of us may think that this is a simple issue but after I read this book, I can see that oppression and inequality can cause a huge impact in the life of one who being oppressed. We can say that different people have their own hardship in their life. However, for Malcolm X, he came from minority group that being oppressed that for sure his life more miserable than us. The first issue is regarding his teacher. As a teacher, he should encourages his students to be what they want to be in the future without care about their races. In this world, we have same opportunity to become a success person. So, how can his teacher, demotivate Malcolm by saying all those things. His action of course disobey the teaching ettiquette and the most important thing is he devalues the dignity of others human being. By this action, I can say that status that someone had does not guarantee he or she should be respect until they showed the value of humanity in themselves first. The teacher should be blame of or becoming the reason of dropoutof Malcolm. Because of his teacher perception towards him, Malcolm started to leave school and this is the starting point where he involved with all the criminals matters. At the first stage, Malcolm changed because of Eiljah Muhammad. This is good but overly idolized Eiljah Muhammad that sometimes make me think that Malcolm actually not worshipped God but he worshipped Elijah. From my opinion, the most reliable sources of Islam is Al-Quran and As-sunnah. So, we do not need others to tell us all the principlesas the essence of Islam already in those two sources. In conclusion, ‘The Autobiography of Malcolm X’ is an interesting and infromative book that should be read by everyone. However, for those does not have any interest in History, you must prepare yourself physically and mentally to completing this book. From the book, we can extract many moral issues that arises without we know. Hence, as a Muslim, we should always concern and be knowledgeable as possible in order to preserve our
