Graffiti is a controversial topic, some people consider it vandalism other consider it art. Graffiti has been around for centuries: in one form or another. Graffiti are being displayed in museums worldwide for people to admire. Some draw graffiti to give old places a new look other do it just because they are bored. Local police should treat graffiti as art instead of vandalism because it is inspirational and people are showing their true self. Graffiti should be considered art because it inspires changes. Greenwood, 2011 point out that, ”Anything where people put in as much sweat and tears into their craft should be considered an art form and not vandalism.” This suggests that people that do graffiti are not just spraying randomly: they are putting all their mind and heart into making something unique for everyone to see. Greenwood, 2011 state, “It’s more that just ‘bombing,’ where you spray stuff and run,”Mingo-Williams said.”It involves planning, sketching, choosing colors and outing.” This prove that graffiti is art because when people paint graffiti they spend lots of time and effort into planning what they want to paint. Anything that people put effort into making is art. There are some people that would not agree that graffiti is art. Although graffiti is creative and inspiring by law it is considered illegal and desprestful. Government has to spend thousand to clean up graffiti. Greenwood, 2011 says, “By Michigan law, graffito is considered to be malicious destruction of property…MDOT annually spends about $100,000 to clean graffiti off freeways in Metro Detroit by either painting over it or with power-washing”.
