For the past 25 years it has been wondered why the young people of
America have shared the same apathetic attitude towards politics as the older generation of Americans. Indeed, the issues concerning young voters are just as important as those concerning older voters. Why the newest voters choose to abstain their right has long been studied. While it has been proven that the vote of young people can make or a break an election, most candidates are reluctant to relate themselves to young people. When that Tuesday in November comes, young people choose not be heard, assuring themselves future neglect by the part of elected officials.
There are reasons that young people do not vote, or get involved in political actions. They range from apathy to just plain not having enough time. One of the larger reasons is that most candidates are much older then those 18-25. This would put the generation gap in between candidates and the youthful voters. A 19 year old Trinity College student remarks about Bob Dole, I think he is making himself look older by speaking about certain issues we (young people) can not relate to. When asked to give an example the student stated, "he made a reference to World War I, I thought he was going to say he fought in that one too!"
(www.mtv.com/chooseorlose). While Bob Dole is a isolated instance, many youthful voters feel that there is a ever growing distance between them and the older generations. Another reason that young people are turning away is lack of education towards politics. While this could be said for any age group, it seems to be more prevalent in younger people. The lifestyle of younger people does not allow for a everyday exposure to politics as those of a older generation. Thomas Banks, a 19 year old student, when asked why he was not watching the 1992 Presidential
Debates responded, "I guess because I don't really see what's going on at college. I feel pretty isolated. It doesn't seem as important to me as studying. I guess". Although not in a career yet, the life of a student is proving to be just as busy as those in the older generations. People in the full time labor are not the only ones who can use a hassle-full life as an excuse not to get involved. There is another major reason that young people feel isolated and set apart from the political world. For those who take the time to educate themselves, and to participate in what activities they can; they soon find that the major candidates have paid little, if any attention to the issues that
In fact, “a determined student, even encountering hardships in his/her life while attending college full time, will succeed” (Culpepper 330). Also, many professionals successfully graduated college while dealing with hardships such as “raising children alone, working in multiple jobs, and caring for sick relatives” (Culpepper 330). They showed commitment by staying focused on what they wanted to achieve in their lives. An overloaded student accomplishes his/her tasks by organizing his/her daily schedule, not allowing more than one activity developing in the same hour. Also, the student has to allow for himself/herself recreational time as a reward, for that will balance his/her overwhelmed lifestyle.
The myth of the millennial nation is one that describes the vision and perception held by the American people that suggests that the United States is the Nation responsible for heralding in the second coming of Jesus Christ. Hughes ties this vision to the American idea of manifest destiny which held much responsibility for our nation's growth and overpowering force, not merely in our hemisphere but in all of the world.
...the work, personal, and social life context, can promote or impede their learning” (247). This statement is true because if these activities continue to impede the learning of a student then he or she will get stressed out, which could result in the student dropping all his or her college classes. If the student could just sit back and analyze the situation, life would be easier. For example, the student could reduce the number of classes he or she takes every semester. Reducing the amount of classes could result in more time spending with family rather than doing homework. When thinking of a person whose life is filled with frustrating duties and activities remember a nontraditional college students’ schedule of completing activities of school, working long hours, completing personal activities, and trying to spend free time with family and friends all in one day.
Have you ever wondered if our generation is the dumbest? Well, there’s some evidence to prove so. Generation ‘Y’ is considered to be the dumbest generation of all. This is based on numerous experiments, polls, surveys, etc. While everything else in this world is rising, intellect of each generation is falling. With the ignorance of facts, by choice, and lack of some education, Generation ‘Y’ is considered to be the dumbest generation.
Finances play a part in everyone’s lives. According to critics, the generation of Millennials have not been the most accomplished in this area. However, new information is on the rise, and it shows that Millennials are becoming more financially stable. The generation of Millennials is a broad group. The group of Millennials associated in this discussion are from the beginning of the Millennial generation, which are those born between the 1980s and 1990s. The Millennials generation itself ranges from the 1980s to 2004. After the Great Recession, the older generation of Millennials had a massive setback with financial security. Since then, Millennials have always been known for having poor finances by critics. Millennials may not
Many students believe that they can handle having a part time job and being a college student at the same time. For some students having a job and being in school can be manageable but there is some students who believe they can manage their personal life and school at the same time. In the talk show Tedx Talk with David Ray, Ray mentions that students with jobs tend to struggle more in college and have more of a chance to drop out, when he states “students have to work part time jobs or multiple jobs to pay for tuition and they do less school work”. College is worth it for the students who know how to manage their personal life with their school life but sadly there is students who do not know how to manage their time appropriately and end up dropping out of college which results to losing
According to Mark Bauerlein, those who were born after 1982, known as Generation Y, are the world’s dumbest generation. Bauerlein argues that this generation is not meeting the standards that he believes today’s technology should allow them to reach and it is hard to argue with all of his statistics on test scores, but Bauerlein obviously does not understand this generation. Who does he think is behind it all? It takes a genius to create new technology, no matter what the technology is used for or how other people perceive it. It did not just appear out of nowhere. Generation Y is not the dumbest generation, because if they were that would mean Bauerlein’s generation failed to raise Generation Y, technology just creates itself, and test scores determine intelligence.
that go into an individual being considered selfcentered. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary being selfcentered means to be “too interested in yourself and not caring about the needs or feelings of other people” (“Selfcentered”). Is there any way to measure how selfcentered someone is? A question that pertains to this topic asks, is the latest generation more selfcentered than the generation before? When it comes to this generation there are many varying opinions. There are many reasons the millennial generation is more selfcentered than previous generations.
It is a dominant stereotype that the Millennial Generation possesses a great sense of entitlement. When one is entitled, they feel as if they should be more privileged and seem to behave as if they are more deserving than others. Most readers are in agreeance with those who argue that Generation Y, otherwise referred to as the Millennial generation, is an entitled group of people, but not everyone is in agreeance with who is responsible for the sense of entitlement that these Millennials possess.
In life there are many people, things, or places that we experience that have influenced our lives so unique and powerful there unlike any other. Some women experience such alteration with the birth of a new baby. While for another person this life alteration may be making partner at a law firm. Though everyone experiences life on a different level one thing is for certain, not everything in life is a good experience. Everything in life is balanced, and with every joy comes some form of heartache. For some people it takes an emotional toll so incoherent that it never fades. After World War I many men experienced the let down affiliated with the war, and discovered there fight for admiration and loyalty led to nothing more than a expulsion of lost values, thus leading to the “lost generation.”

Average hours and pay characterize these environments, but education continues apace. Few people leave the profession during these years; the hours already devoted in school make it easier to tolerate these few extra workplace indignities. And in about five years one will be leading research teams and turn into people managers as well as project managers. This is an unanticipated turn of events for some, as it removes them from the challenging, intellectually rarefied environment they enjoy and places them in a more administrative role. Most significant design and production work is done in these years.
This calls a need for people especially students in college to warm up to the fact that if they are unable to manage their time appropriately while in school it is apparent that as they transition into their working life they will demonstrate the same effects still while on the job.
Time management is another challenge, as a student and also a worker, you need to really know how to plan and manage your time in terms of studying, taking care of your family and schools with the assignments from school. Time, if not properly managed can bring about schedule conflict, both working and studying are time consuming but you need to set aside a particular for studying when all you do is mainly studying and nothing more. Set the time when to cook for the family to avoid late food all the time thereby making your family members eat junks which might lead to gaining excessive weight or
It is safe to say that the working life for millennial generation has been and will be different to that of generations past. Gurenteed jobs after leaving school, college, or university are now a thing of the past. These days placing responsibility of your career progression into the hands of someone else can even be considered passé.
