The Anniversary Party
By 1947, my grandfather had returned from World War II and married a French girl he had met while going to college at Emory University in Atlanta. This was my grandmother. He looks at her sometimes in their kitchen when we are down to visit and loudly claims to have known from the moment he saw her that she would be the woman he'd marry. My grandmother Geva, short for the lovely Genevieve, smiles and shakes her head and takes a coconut cake into the other room while she remembers the hot day in Georgia when she lost her French name - Bertat. Bertat, Bertat. That name - incredibly beautiful, with the little lilt at the end lifting it up. She remembers becoming "Mrs. Alexander" and then incorporating the name when they started the "ALEXANDER'S OFFICE SUPPLIES" stores in Milledgeville, Macon, and Dublin, Georgia, where they live. And she puts the coconut cake down where it goes, where it will sit to be nibbled at in times of boredom by the men she made it for, and she thinks on where she is now - fifty years she's been married to him. Their stores are all three going strong, and she is still working at the Dublin branch every day, including today, her 50th wedding anniversary. She is still as sharp as the ten thousand tacks she ordered for Macon this morning.
We are down to visit and to celebrate this anniversary, this fairly amazing accomplishment of my grandparents. Their marriage has been full of love, and today their house is full of children and grandchildren. I am the oldest and long ago was dubbed "#1 Grandson" by my grandfather. My cousin Chris, a year younger than me, is "#2," my younger brother is "#3," and Chris's brother Scott is "#4." It's hardly a creative labeling system, but it works well when yelled from across the house if one of the dogs is bothering him or if anyone comes to the door. Chris has had a hard life and has made the lives of those around him hard as well. He is not in Dublin right now - he is in South Carolina at a military school, but he probably won't stay there long.
He was kicked out of one school for breaking into their computer system and messing with their records. He is fairly a genius with anything mechanical or technological, the exact opposite of me and my brother, who throw up our hands like the prissy city-boys we are when Chris talks about taking apart hard drives or fixing cars.
This essay will examine and evaluate the fundamental principles of Carl Rogers’s theory Person-Centred therapy alongside the variation of techniques that is used to support this model. In order to do this, the essay will present the main theory and core conditions and how this is then implemented in the therapist and client relationship.
Thinking about “Cinderella” brings me to my mind invaluable memories from my childhood, and that is why this fairy tale has been in the life of almost every person for causing entertainment, teach a lesson and people are able to relate to the story and feel part of it. I have read the “Cinderella” version by Charles Perrault and the one by Grimm Brothers and I found the Perrault’s to have a greatest value. Perrault describes “Cinderella” as the sweetest person in the world and her actions confirm it in every moment, because it does not matter how bad is the situation she is not able to betray her feeling for revenge. She teaches about forgiveness and to be tolerant with others, and help them even when they are not action properly as she did
Nikki Giovanni and Linda Hogan both wrote poems in the 1970s about their grandmothers that seem totally different to the unaware reader. In actuality, they are very similar. These two poems, Legacies and Heritage, express the poet’s value of knowledge passed down from grandmother to granddaughter, from generation to generation. Even though the poems are composed and read very differently, the underlying message conveyed is the same, and each are valid first-hand accounts of legacies and heritages.
When a wife surprises her husband on his birthday, an ironic turn of events occurs. Katherine Brush’s “The Birthday Party” is a short story about relationships, told from the perspective of a nearby observer. Brush uses the words and actions of the married couple to assert that a relationship based on selfishness is weak.
The grandmother is very old and has lived a very tough life in Vietnam. She “‘lost four of [her] children… twelve of [her] grandchildren and countless relatives to wars and famines’” (Meyer, 74) while in Vietnam. During her life she had very little time to enjoy herself, instead she had to focus on not only surviving, but also holding a family together and getting them through the hardships as well. On top of the Vietnam War, which killed an estimated 500,000-600,000 Vietnamese citizens alone (Weisner), she had to live through 2 additional wars and several famines. The implicated stress and hardships are almost unimaginable. This is evident in her stories and fairy tales she tells her granddaughters, which always have dark twist or no happy ending, or as the granddaughters say “The husband comes too late” (Meyer, 77) to stop the bad guy or save the
...lave to not only her family but also the London clock. However, as Disney Cinderella sings, “Your dreams are a wish your heart makes.” Our life is ticking away, day by day. If we have the courage to overcome the adversity that we face now and in the future, as did Cinderella with her stepsisters and jealous stepmother, then we too are that much closer to reaching our dreams. Sometimes all it takes is a glass slipper.
not only aware of the processes my clients are going through but I am also relating this theory to my client work in having a more awareness of how a client is responding and how that behaviour may manifest. Reflection after the session or at supervision allows me to hang the practice to the theory and make sense of the person centred approach. I feel it is an exciting time in the field of person-centred therapy as new approach are put forward to embrace change in our approach but holds tightly onto to the fundamental theory of Carl

Alice Walker’s story entitled “Everyday Use” focuses on an African American family that contends with one another to determine how to embrace heritage. For Mama and Dee, heritage plays a critical role in deciding what path to take in life. On the one hand, the Mama seeks to protect her heritage by being an honest hard-working mother that cares about the people in her life not the resentment she faces for being an African American. On the other hand, Dee tries to ‘modernize’ heritage by creating a new identity after seeking higher education. In turn, Dee creates a driving force between family members through her new identity, education, and desire to obtain the ragged, old quilts.

It is beautiful to see so many loving family members and friends here to share in this occasion, especially those who have traveled some distances to
Each person in the world has heard of Cinderella, no matter what kind of version it may be. Cinderella is the one fairy tale story that has been popular and will always be the one tale that has to be told to children. Words and story lines might be twist and turn, but in the end the knowledge of the story will be learned in similar ways. As we all know when one story is told another is created, when one is at its best then another is at its worse. One version will always be better than another, but no matter what version it might be the story will be told.
Family : My Grandmother Mildred truly defined the word family as I have come to learn and live it. Holidays and family gatherings were the celebrations they were because they were surrounded by Grandma’s love. I watched family such as my late uncle Reginald become the amazing family man he was because of traditions instilled by his mother. I have also seen her daughter - my aunt Milinda – raise three beautiful children by the love and traditions passed down from Grandma. I, of course, owe most of who I am from Grandma’s love passed down through my own mother Rayetta and her husband George, whom Grandma so highly regarded.

Person centered therapy also encourages their clients to use their understanding of themselves opposed to relying on a psychologist own interpretation of the situation to solve their issue. Another key concept in person centered therapy is making use of unconditional positive regard, which is not matter what the client says or does they can count on the therapist will always be warm and excepting of them. The effectiveness of person centered therapy give real insight into human nature and the need for people to feel acceptance from another person. It is especially interesting that the acceptance as a baseline skill is taught to aspiring counselors, illustrating the importance of Carl Rogers’s philosophy. In addition, I will be implementing this philosophy in my career as a
