The Alchemist: Synopsis The novel ‘The Alchemist” is written by Paul Coelho. The inciting incident that would initiate the plot and sets the protagonist on his course towards his goal is whenever Santiago would sleep under a sycamore tree that grew inside of a ruined church, he gets a re-occurring dream but he did not know what happened. Later on, he met with a gypsy woman who is a dream interpreter. The vision got during his dream would be Santiago in a field with his sixty sheep and all of a sudden a child comes to pet the sheep. After the kid finished petting the sheep, the little guy teleported him to Egypt and told him that he will find a treasure near the pyramid. His dad told him that he should become a priest and not to travel because there would be no occupation that would have enough money to travel around the world. Later, on the novel he goes to Africa and got all of his money stolen. He had to work a store where they sell crystallized things. Santiago worked there for about a year and helped the business expand their product. He almost forgot his dream about reaching the pyramid getting the treasure. Santiago used his money to get a ride through the desert and towards the pyramid. They had to stop on an oasis in the middle of the desert; he would fall in love towards a desert woman which is Fatima and made him rethink about his goals and finding the treasure close to the pyramid. This event is testing him to see if he is still concentrated towards reaching his goal. Santiago was confronted by the Alchemist using interrogation if he sincere and concentrated about his goals. The final event would be him and the alchemist almost dying to a tribe, the only way of them living would be Santiago becoming the wind and destroying the tribe’s home base. In this novel, Santiago would have to face his decisive event that would determine whether his goal will be achieved or not. This climax happened in the oasis and Santiago foresaw a life-threatening event towards the area which he told people. A horseman appeared pointed his sword towards Santiago’s forehead, questioning and interrogating him about his vision. He later put the sword down and told Santiago that it was just a test of his courage and sincerity about his goals.
