BrightSource Energy’s, a solar, green power producer located in California, has the capability to power over 140,000 homes (Wells, Chediak, and Goossens 1). Electricity is a huge part in today society; however, an increase in energy price has caused a spread of research for alternative methods to produce the necessity (Storey 47). Solar energy is one of the many safe, environment friendly alternatives to fossil fuels that are expanding today (Storey 48). Environmental safety is a key issue that needs to be addressed (Storey 48). The current energy system, diesel, oil and other fossil fuels, all produce chemicals that effect the environment (Chinnammai 404). To keep the environment safe and long lasting, alternatives have been studied, solar (Chinnammai 404). Unlike our fossil fuels, solar energy is a resource that will not disappear and that the world can rely on to produce energy for the future. For these major benefits, solar energy has been considered all around the world (Chinnammai 404). Currently it is being used for small houses and jobs, street lamps (Chinnammai 404). It has not been used for big businesses for multiple reasons, and the main reason being the cost to produce the energy (Storey 48). It will take 10 to 12 years for businesses to see the effects of solar energy economically (Storey 48). Society must adapt to the use of solar energy because the positive effects on the environment and its many other benefits (Dvarioniene et. al. 2041).
Many nations rely on the use of electricity to become a successful world power (Dvarioniene et. al. 2041). Whether it is from keeping big businesses running or powering a normal citizen’s house, electricity plays a key role in today’s world (Dvarioniene et. al. 2041). The world’s...

Preview: Today I will discuss the potential that solar power has to become this country’s main supply of energy and the latest research that can make solar power more efficient and cost effective. I will also present the environmental benefits that come with using solar power over other and more harmful forms of energy.

This report is referenced many times in this article and is an important part for the information of this work as a whole. This is where most of the facts come from and is used as the backbone for this article. The rhetorical appeal of both logos and ethos is most exemplified here. This report uses evidence-based research to estimate the market for solar power, both developing companies and their technologies, and at home installation of panels on rooftops in Australia. Morgan Stanley’s research looks at companies and consumer reports pertaining to battery technology and its mass adoption. A lot of the detailed figures Parkinson uses are derived from this report, and even the infographic displayed within this article is found in this research report. Parkinson writes that the small amount of Australian homes in the market for battery storage, 2,000, will expand to a million by 2020. This information comes directly from the Morgan Stanley’s report. Parkinson relies heavily on combining the credibility of this research report with the mass amount of information it holds to effectively spark interests in his audience and for them to agree with
The future of the United States solar energy industry will be shaped not only by economic growth, but also by the rate of declining oil resources and the global realization of the consequences of human induced climate change. Political responses to this realization in the United States include; new policies, legislature, and tax incentives to both businesses and private households to promote growth and investment in the solar power industry.
In this modern fast paced world that we live in, there are many issues that are looked over, energy is one of these. As a world, we are dependant on dwindling fossil fuel supplies and take for granted electricity, oil, and gas. There are four completely renewable sources of energy around us that should be used and developed, they are: wind, growing plants, flowing water, and the sun. These sources of energy are the ones we should be tapping, because they are reliable and renewable. Harnessing the suns energy is the most certain and ultimate energy source. Looking at a brief history and some facts about solar energy, a glimpse of the future can be seen, a future not dependant on fossil fuels.
The sun has been a major aspect of life since the beginning of time. People used many other forms of energy before electricity was discovered. There has been a debate over energy resources for years. Many people are worried about what current energy resources may be doing to the environment. Oil spills and nuclear power plant mishaps have only been a few accidents that have had a big impact on the environment and the people who inhabit it. There are plenty of energy sources that do not harm the environment and are still able to get the job done. Solar energy is one energy alternative that will insure the betterment of the country and, at the same time, protect the natural environment.
These lamps cost a lot of money to operate each day and produce poor quality of light. In 2011, One Acre Fund began a series of studies (including two RCTs) to evaluate the household impact of selling solar lamps to farmers. In each study, farmers signed up to buy our lamps, and we randomly selected a control group from those farmers who would be delayed in receiving the light. We then tracked the household energy expenditures daily for the test group and the comparison group. There were striking differences and clear energy cost savings for the solar light owners, as well as a significant increase in child study hours due to higher-quality light.
Instilling this new way of energy usage into off-grid communities will inevitably increase the state of living for those in cities and other well-populated areas. The change to renewable energy sources could drastically lower the pollutants currently being dispersed into the atmosphere by coal mines and other harmful power options, increasing the supply of renewable energy would allow us to replace carbon-intensive energy sources and significantly reduce U.S. global warming emissions. a 25 percent by 2025 national renewable electricity standard would lower power plant CO2 emissions 277 million metric tons annually by 2025—the equivalent of the annual output from 70 typical (600 MW) new coal plants (“Benefits of Renewable Energy Use”). Electricity production accounts for more than one-third of U.S. global warming emissions, with the majority generated by coal-fired power plants.

When picking an energy resource for the topic of this paper, I bounced around a lot of ideas. Then it occurred to me that I should write about what I will be living with in about a month. My mom just finished designing and building our earthbag, solar, off-grid house, a four-year endeavor. I will soon live in a place powered by one of the most common alternative energy resources, solar energy, so I should learn more about it. At our new house, we have two stand alone pedestals with six 170W panels on each pedestal, making for a 2040W or 2kW solar system.

The use of solar panels has increased by 63% since 2013. Possible detriments towards using solar energy includes the amount of space it takes up and its cost. Solar panels may seem big, but in reality they are only 3.5’ by 5.5’ (about the size of half a Prius). Another major benefit of solar panel sizing is that you can have as many as you desire and they will fit in together. As for the cost of panel installments, after they are installed there is little to no maintenance required.

Regarding solar power, Mistry claims that although the solar power does not generate pollution, it has a lot of costs. Building solar panels with photovoltaic equipment has high costs. For instance, a photovoltaic system for a home can cost around $35,000 (Kumar, 2012). However, if our goal for the future is to create a healthy environment, switching fossil fuels for solar power might be the best choice to achieve that goal. According to Kumar (2012), Solar power is a clean and renewable energy so, it decreases the dependency on fossil fuel and also reduces the air pollution.
Electrical energy plays critical role in the development of South Africa’s economy, historically South Africa relied primarily on coal for electricity generation, making the electricity sector one of the dominant greenhouse gas emitters(), however these nation has a huge potential to produce cleaner electricity through renewable resources. The challenge at the moment is that those sources are still very expensive and coal is still the cheapest source to produce electricity (Kinghorn, 2014)
