As time passes by technology grows faster and faster. The most important kind of technology to many people is the cell phone. People bring their cell phones everywhere they go and use it on a daily basis. Cell phones has many advantages and disadvantages. Cell phones have been around for quite some time now, but as time goes on, cell phones continue to gain many features. A cell phone started out as just a simple device that only had numbers, and most people used them for emergencies only. Nowadays, cell phones have many features such as: phone calls, text messaging, accessing the internet, sending emails, taking pictures, using calculators, an alarm clock, and many more. Cell phones are used daily for many reasons beyond emergencies. Where …show more content…
Michelle McGriff from Techwalla mentions, “Keeping in touch with one another is as simple as pushing a button.” When you can’t talk, cell phones make communication with the use of text messaging. Keeping in touch has never been easier. Cell phones fit in your purse or your back pocket. Which means, anywhere you go, your phone goes. You can contact anyone at any time. Plan on going shopping and don’t want to write a list? Make a grocery list on your cell phone. You won’t ever have to forget what’s on your shopping list because you can simply look at your phone or give home a call. Many cell phones come with a Global Positioning System (GPS). These voice over devices show your current location and will then give you directions to your point of interest by speaking out which way to “turn”. Cell phones allow you to send messages in times when talking isn’t allowed. Cell phones also store contacts. “In case of an accident, cell phones hold crucial information that your family and loved ones need to know.” [40] And what about all those cool apps we can now download on our phones? Cell phones are actually a health hazard to us. Cell phones use Radio Frequency waves in order to transmit signals to and from. The radio frequency signals from cell phones fall within the microwave part of the electromagnetic spectrum. These waves are responsible for heating effects, thus holding a phone to our ear for quite some time, you will notice that your phone is warm. Rong Wang, from Pong case explains, “When the phone is placed next to your head during a call, a significant proportion of the emitted energy is absorbed into your head and body.” A compelling instance of health hazards as one of the disadvantages of cell phones was an experiment performed by Swedish Researchers where they studied the effects of exposure to microwave radiations for two hours on rats’ brains. They found that a large number of dead brain cells were found in the rats’ brains after 50 days. Degeneration of brain cells in humans leads to serious diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. Although the linkage of mobile phone usage and Alheimer’s and cancer aren’t completely established, a truth in these findings has major ramifications. Mobile phone usage in USA has gone up from 13 million mobile phone subscribers in 1993 to 223 million in 2006, almost twenty times in thirteen years. This implies that now, a much higher number of people are exposed to these harmful radiations than thirteen years back. Although not yet completely proven, mobile phones are
Millions of people around the world use cell phones on a daily basis and people hardly realize the terminal risks. Cell phones may seem completely harmless, but they actually emit radio waves that can be hazardous towards the human body. Each time someone makes a call or receives a call, a type of cancerous radiation is given off by the cell phone in order for the user to communicate with the person on the other side of the line. Since the amount of cell phone users has rose rapidly, more people are being exposed to this kind of radiation. As cell phones undergo advancements, people are starting to use them more often, leading to an increase in the amount and length of calls each day. Some believe that these radio waves do no such harm to your body due to the radiation wave being weak but in reality, exposure to any kind of radiation is never safe. Radio waves might not affect the human body immediately, but after a long period of time the effects are bound to reveal. Cell phones can increase the risk of cancer because its radiation affects brain cells, causes tumors, and is hazardously absorbed by the tissues in the body.
As time went on the technology advanced and more positive things came along examples of pros of having a cell phone would be easy to keep in touch because you have a phone on you at all times, most cell phones have plans that help you save for example the $45 plan, and also they are safe when it comes to being able to contact someone in case of an emergency. You can access the internet without having to be at a computer or at laptop, you don’t even have to be at home anymore because there is now something called cellular data. Cellular data is “The transmission of data via cellphone. Also called "mobile data" and a separate service from voice calling, cellular data is used for e-mail, Web pages, media and app downloads and software
There was a time when people communicated mainly through writing letters, talking on the phone, or speaking personally to others. Our communication capabilities and the dynamic of our social world has changed drastically with the introduction of electronics – especially cellular smartphones. In today’s world, hand-held cellular phones have transformed the way people communicate. While these devices have made us much more productive and efficient, they are causing our society to lose the important life skill of interpersonal communication. People can be seen everywhere fixating on their phones instead of interacting with others. Many are mesmerized by what they can do on their phones and are often seen using them while walking down the street, sitting at a restaurant during dinner, and even while driving. I believe cell phones are negatively impacting our society because they are harming our interpersonal skills, consuming our lives, and creating an imminent danger.
When cell phones were first introduced, all you could do was call others and talk for half an hour. It was like a brick and took ten hours to charge. It also cost $3995. That’s a lot more than most of today’s cell phones. Even, though it was a very basic phone, it began impacting the world. Now, you could call your relatives and actually talk with them without being next to them. Parents gave their kids cell phones to stay in touch. Now you can contact anyone through your mobile phone in multiple ways. You can text, call, facetime or message someone through social media. Cell phones abilities

Many people in today’s society rely on technology to help us with our daily lives and help us stay connected to family, friends, and other people. The advancements in today’s cell phone technology is very complex and made to be efficient for their owners, allowing them to surf the net and IM message people instantly. Cellphones in particular have developed very fast in the past 15 years. From my childhood, cell phones have evolved from the old school Nokia bricks that allowed texts, calls, and simple graphic games, to todays I-Phones that have higher computable capabilities than some computers. In the United States alone, there is an estimated population of around 297 million people, and 197 million people are subscribed to cell phone companies (Starr). With so many people in today’s society with so much power and opportunity in the palm of their hands, we shouldn’t forget that “With great power comes great responsibility” –Voltaire.
Social relationships are essential for one to function properly within today’s society. Cell phones have affected social relationships by changing them from social conduct to contacting someone through a text message. “ Research in human interaction using communication technology like text messages and phone calls could deepen an understanding on how society manages their everyday life” (Rippen). Cell phones have become such a necessity in everyday life that cell phone users rely on a device to manage their everyday social relationships. Cell phone users can manage their social relationships with the touch of a screen. The user can access facebook, send a tweet, send an email, text, or call anyone anywhere in the world. As of lately cell phone users seem to be driven by their own need to be connected to anyone with in seconds. Some people find it overwhelming when it comes to manage their social relationships and have issues when confronted with human contact.
"How dangerous could a cell phone actually be?" That is one of the many questions a person will ask themselves throughout their lifetime. Cell phones cause many distractions to humans throughout the day. Many cell phone owners find themselves checking their phones for messages and notifications even when the phone did not vibrate or ring. The overuse of cell phones will have negative effects on the mental and physical health of its users, will cause driving distractions, and will have a negative impact on the communication skills of humans.
Brain tumors and eye cancer are two health concerns of cell phones that are currently under investigation. Many people have heard rumors about whether or not cell phones are responsible for these health problems, but answers never seem to be found.
The effects of technology on society will always be a double edged sword. The debate is a never ending one, in which both sides have valid and compelling arguments. The Industrial Revolution reduced manual labor in the long run, but had negative consequences such as child labor and sweatshop conditions. Nuclear Power reduces the cost of producing energy, but raises serious environmental issues like pollution and radiation. In this day in age refusing to assimilate to at least some form of modern living is simply not an option. One invention causing controversy today that has yet to cease being alter, modified, and “improved” since its debut is the ever present cell phone.
They can receive or make calls and text messages to most parts of the world. With the cell phones, it was easier to write a text message than to hand write a note as it was before. With time, the level of use of cell phones has gone up, with more features being introduced. Cell phone technology is a double-edged innovation that inevitably changes both positively and negatively. Cell phones are among the most innovative gadgets of the 20th century.
