Breastfeeding your baby has many advantages, but breastfeeding can also have disadvantages. I know everyone has their own options and beliefs of what is better for their baby, and most parents think what they are doing and how they are doing things is the best way for their baby. But, I believe everyone can learn something new everyday and you should never think you know everything, even if you are a very experienced parent. I am going to take a look at some of the advantages, disadvantages, and benefits breastfeeding your baby can provide for them.

Latching problems are big problems for mothers, but it can be helped. Your nipples can become sore which makes it hard to continue to nurse your baby. But there are things you can do to help with latching. First, you can consult a lactation nurse who can help you and your baby learn how to breastfeed better. Second, mothers can try repositioning their baby to make breastfeeding more comfortable. Another problem is cracked nipples. Many things such as, thrush, dry skin, pumping improperly, and latching problems can cause cracked nipples. However, as painful as cracked nipples can be you should avoid lotions. Instead try leaving a little milk on you nipples to air dry, which should help heal your nipples. Also, you can take mild painkillers if they are needed. Another problem is low milk supply. To help low milk supply you need to feed your baby more and pump during the day to help increase your milk supply. Also, there are many other problems that can appear. These include clogged or plugged ducts, engorgement or high milk supply, mastitis, thrush, baby sleeping at the breast, inverted or flat nipples, and painful or overactive let down. Everything above can be a problem, but they do have solutions so don’t let that discourage you from breastfeeding
What are the benefits of breastfeeding, you might be wondering? Well for starters breast milk is very crucial for a newborn. Not only does it feed and
To be able to nourish a baby naturally can also help a new mother feel reassured in her ability to care for her baby. Which enables the mother and infant to connect on an emotional level and get to know one another. Knowing the babies cues before he/she begins to cry can help develop a healthy relationship between mother and infant. Breast milk is also convenient and readily available at the right temperature for a baby to eat. A woman...

Very few experts disagree with the fact that breastfeeding is the optimal choice for the infant. However, decreasing breastfeeding rates raise many questions as to why mothers are not choosing the best nutritional choice for their children. Despite breast milk being the obvious choice for infant feeding due to the health, psychological, and economic benefits, many mothers still decide to feed their infants formula due to lack of knowledge and support, difficulties with breastfeeding, and social embarrassment. Changes need to be made with formula companies, medical professionals, and the public opinion of breastfeeding in order to give nursing mothers the support they deserve.
This chapter talks about the development of children. It starts out talking about how in just 2 year a child goes from being helpless, little, and not really doing anything. To running, jumping, talking, playing, hugging, and kissing. In just 2 years a helpless baby becomes a human. The brain is the thing that controls the whole body from making a childes hands work to making them grow in size. The head of the child develops more quickly than the rest of the body. After 8 weeks of conception the head of the baby makes up half of its length. The brine develops more quickly than that the spinal cord. As the child grows in size they also grow in the ability to pick things up, and to move. The most dramatic weight and high change happens while the kid is in
The biggest decision a new mother has to make is not what to name the baby nor is it which hospital to deliver at. The biggest decision to make is in fact whether she is going to breastfeed or formula feed. Many women choose to formula feed because they aren't very educated on breastfeeding or because they feel they can't due to the fact that they failed the first time or times that they tried to do so. If they were aware of all of the benefits of breastfeeding, I feel that more mothers would breastfeed rather than formula feed. Three benefits of breastfeeding are that it is healthy for both mom and baby, it builds a stronger bond, and it is more convenient. If more information is given to new mothers, it would help them make the best
Procreation is basic to life and reality. Originally, mothers never had a choice of whether to breastfeed their infants or not. Mothers breastfed their infants. This gave moms the ability to care for and sustain their infants whenever nursing was needed. Advantages of breastfeeding are for the children, mothers, and the economy. Cultures differ from place to place because we live in a very diverse world. Indeed, a few cons to breastfeeding are generally sincere beliefs. One con about nursing in broad daylight is nursing can cause other individuals in the surrounding area to feel uncomfortable. Some think a woman showing cleavage during a nursing session can conjure up the same thoughts as a woman in a seductive outfit, while several assorted
Breastfeeding is when a woman feeds her child from her breast. Breastfeeding has been around since before the 15th century. In addition to strengthening the bond between a mother and her baby, breastfeeding offers a number of benefits for both a mother and her child. Babies who are breastfed have lower risk of meningitis, various cancers, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, bacterial and viral infections, childhood leukemia, allergies and obesity. Mothers have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer, as well as osteoporosis. All mothers no matter where they are weather it be the mall, park, restaurant, or just out running errands need to have their right to breastfeed protected.
There many advantages to breastfeeding! Research shows that breastfed infants have fewer and shorter episodes of illness. The nutrition provided by breastmilk benefits the baby’s IQ. The skin-to-skin contact encouraged by breastfeeding offers babies greater emotional security and enhances bonding. Breastfeeding appears to reduce the risk of obesity and hypertension for the infant later in life. Breastfeeding delays the onset of hereditary allergic disease, and lowers the risk of developing allergic disease. Breastfeeding helps the baby’s immune system mature, protecting the baby in the meantime from viral, bacteria, and parasitic infections. Breastfeeding protects against developing chronic diseases such as: celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, and childhood cancers. (Shinskie and Lauwers, 2002)
To help your baby deal with this problem, position your baby's head above your nipple's level so that she is doing “uphill” nursing. You can also try other positions: Cradle the baby in your arms, but lean backward on a reclined surface. Do a football hold while leaning backward. Do a football hold, but let the baby sit up while facing you. This is a good way to nurse in public places.
Women do not breastfeed long enough. Although healthcare workers try to promote the breast method, many women do not continue with it. Breastfeeding does come with challenges; however, the phrase “breast is best” is the role of the nurse in conjunction with education. A mother a...
Breastfeeding is the most protective, nutritional, and natural way to provide nourishment to infants. Human milk contains several nutrients including: vitamins, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and minerals. These nutrients are imperative for an infant’s developmental growth. Human milk also reduces the risk of developing morbidities, especially within premature infants. Premature infants, who are more prone to infection due their immune systems, benefit from human milk. Compared to artificial formulas, human milk provides antibodies and other beneficial nutrients to help with the development of the infant.
There are so many reasons to fear or be concerned about the tomorrows of our world, but if there were a solution to some of the health problems what would the choice be for most? Would it be to continue in the downward pattern of destruction or would it be something better to help all? In most cases many people state that training starts in the home and what, but a good way to start with none other than our children. So why not consider breast milk? Breastfeeding can start as soon as the child is born. With the protection of breast milk the overall focus on disease, illness and sickness would be half the battle. Breast milk provides many benefits and the dietary influence it has on disease is too great to be compared to.
It's important not to over pump because the body will produce as much milk as the breasts dispensed the previous day; so once the woman is able to cope with the fullness to the point that she no longer needs to pump, the breasts will stop over filling, they will only produce what the baby needs. Sleeping at a slight incline will help the breasts from feeling so leaden in the morning and letting the baby nurse as often as they want will help to keep the breasts from producing too much milk and alleviate the uncomfortable feeling. Sore Nipples Sore, dry, or even cracked nipples are actually common the first week of breastfeeding; to help combat sore nipples the mother should allow the nipple to air dry as often as possible, once the nipple is completely dry she should apply some lanolin to the nipple. The lanolin will moisturize the skin and protect the skin from chapping which can occur from nursing; if the nipples are too sore to apply the lanolin, it may be applied to a nursing pad, and then placed on the sore nipple. Sticking With it Many mothers want to breastfeed their babies then quit for one reason or another after a few weeks; during the great depression when formula was only available to the wealthiest people over 80% of women were able to breastfeed their babies, today less than 40% of women breastfeed
After seeing this mother, doing the research and seeing how valuable breastfeeding teaching really is, I realized that my preconception related to breastfeeding was way off and my respect for mothers who try to breastfeed and continue to try throughout difficulties without giving up has increased substantially. It is so important to encourage a mother and help her out through the difficulties and challenges she faces through breastfeeding. It may help the mother to know that she is not alone and breastfeeding difficulties are quite common in the beginning but it gets easier with time. I feel that I have learned a lot about breastfeeding difficulties and techniques after being able to go in with a lactation consultant and doing this reflection. I have found that there are many valuable resources for the breastfeeding mother. At the time of this situation, I did not know there was a breastfeeding clinic and a number that you could call if you had any questions, which would really benefit my patient or any patient with breastfeeding questions. It is quite unfortunate that a lactation consultant was not working on Saturday because this mom could have really benefit from one. However, there is healthy and home, a community health division, with workers who are able to help with breastfeeding, including lactation consultants and are able to
