World War 1 has been named the War to End all Wars, and with good reason. Thousands of lives were lost in the 4 year war and due to this; many have named WW1 a war of attrition. Attrition means ‘wearing down of the enemy’s strength’, and this is evident in many battles during the war. World War 1 involved combining new technology and 19th century tactics. Plans that were used were inflexible and often included cavalry. Tactics included bombarding the enemy with shells for a few days before attacking; meaning to kill the enemy and to cut wire but usually ended up only alerting the enemy that there was going to be an attack. Other tactics included running across no man’s land to get to the enemy’s trenches. No man’s land was the stretch of land that was in between the trenches, it was full of craters due to bombs and full of dead. I would like to propose an initiative to address the issue of human trafficking effecting our community. As members of our Justice and Peace Studies Organization I strongly believe that this issue is one that must be addressed, and on the forefront of our minds. I am aware that the United States government is committed to prosecuting traffickers and assisting persons who have been identified as victims of trafficking, but sir, this is merely a reactive measures, not a proactive one. In November 2003, Congress had reauthorized the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, which has helped prosecute traffickers (State Department). Since then no new measures, or bills have been introduced which is rather worrisome.

The more people that donate, the more money will be raised and more resources will be available to help prevent human trafficking around the world. Charities also provide psychological assistance to help families cope with the lost of loved ones due to human trafficking as well as consultation for victims who were fortunate enough to escape. Charities play an intricate role when it comes to the prevention of human trafficking because most victims can not afford to seek professional help, charities provide victims with professional help for little to no cost.
