The !Kung is a small population of people who are hunters and gathers. They travel in small groups that consist of 20-60 people because they are always migrating to different locations. The !Kung live in the Kalahari Desert of northwest Botswana, the Cuando-Cubango Province in southeast Angola and NE Namibia. The Angola!Kung tribe live in the tropical open woodlands. One-third of the Kung! The Tribe continues their traditional nomadic lifestyles. These few people are divided into separate groups who cannot understand each other 's languages. The males are always the one to be introduced first within the family. The !Kung has a very universalistic kinship system, which means that everyone in the society can be linked to each other with just using the term kin. The reason for this it to see how the relationships of the!Kung differs towards each other. Since each person has a different status within the family how does it differ towards how they respond towards one another and when they speak do they have to change their manner. “ A person’s behavior is very different towards joking kin compared with avoidance kin”(Lee. B65). Each kin term has to be used for the appropriate age because when you are older, the name is different from when you’re a grandparent. The are the highest in the society and their kin term can’t be used towards someone that is that is younger than them. “ Towards your grandparent you can be affectionate, but you may not engage in overt sexual joking”(Lee.B65). First of all, the Pomo tribe was located in North central California. Another example, the Pomo tribe lived in places that depended on the climate not too hot, not too cold. Pomo tribe lived in small communities of different types. One community was said to have 20 chiefs at a time and the head men lived in one main village. Also, the Pomo tribe lived in several types of shelter. Southeastern pomo used the tule reeds that grew in marshy areas around the Clear Lake to build houses. Last of all, the Pomo spoke 7 Hokan languages including Yakaya, Yokaia, Shanel, Kabinpek, and Gallinmero, and 2 more.
The mosh is an awesome place in Downtown Jacksonville; where everyone can learn some interesting facts about our city, how the body works , what animals are in the ocean and etc. I visited the Timucua Indian exhibit; I learned a lot of intriguing information that I didn’t know before. I learned how the Timucua Indians first came about, how the Indians lived and survived during this time period. This exhibit also showed me how the Indians looked and the way they did things. Being able to learn about the Timucua Indians is so fascinating to me.
The legend of "La lechuza y el sijú" ("The Owl and the Sijú") is a popular and old Cuban legend. I collected this legend on March 17th, when I first talked to Denise Corte, my co-worker at my campus job, about this particular class assignment. She is a Brazilian doctoral student whose thesis is based on a Cuban theater group. She traveled to Cuba to follow this theater group that primarily focuses their plays on Cuban legends. When she heard about my assignment she was enthusiastic, as her dissertation is based on the exploration of Cuban legends. She generously told me about a legend that she had included in her own work, concerning an owl and a sijú, a nocturnal bird native to Cuba. This legend was told to her in Spanish, so she graciously translated it into English.
Marjorie Shostak, an anthropologist who had written this book had studies the !Kung tribe for two years. Shostak had spent the two years interviewing the women in the society. The !Kung tribe resided n the Dobe area of Northwest Botswana, that’s infused with a series of clicks, represented on paper by exclamation points and slashes. Shostak had studied that the people of the tribe relied mostly on nuts of the mongongo, which is from an indigenous tree that’s part of their diet.

Although we have yet to discover complete equality among the sexes in any pre-existing or presently existing society, the !Kung people are among the closest to reach such equality. The !Kung are an egalitarian society, meaning everyone has access to the valued resources. While the amount of access does vary, just the fact that everyone is includedat least on some levelwhen it comes to meeting the essential needs of living is significant.
As a member of the Taos Pueblo I know that tradition and keeping it alive is very important to us. It is for this reason that I feel the need to share what it is like to spend your days in a village of the Taos Pueblo. We are located in New Mexico, about 70 miles north of Santa Fe. One might think that being so close to a city like Santa Fe we would be modernized as a people, but that is not the case. We like to keep our traditions alive.
The Cahuilla were a Native Southern Californian tribe that occupied the Riverside County, Higher Palomar Mountain Region and East Colorado Desert. The tribe was divided into two groups or moieties know as Wildcats or Coyotes. The Cahuilla lived in small clans that varied in population, and together all the separate clans made up a larger political group called a sib ”http://www.aguacaliente.org/content/History%20&%20Culture/.” The tribe was at first considered to be very simple and savage because they were never interacted with. As the Europeans and Spanish Missionaries considered the desert an inhospitable place that was better to avoid because of its lack of food resources. Little did those European and Spanish missionaries know that the land was ripe with food, only if you knew the land and the seasons. The Cahuilla were a very interesting tribe that cared and loved their land and in return the land would provide them with an abundance of food and resources. The Cahuilla had a very simple yet intricate life that involved a seasonal migration in order to gain access to different foods. They relied on different ways of acquiring food which involved both hunting and gathering.
United States history is taught in public schools from the time we are able to understand its importance. Teachings of honorable plights by our forefathers to establish this great nation are common. However, specific details of this establishment seem to slip through the cracks of our educational curriculum. Genocide by definition is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political or cultural group. The Chiricahua Indian Tribe of the American southwest and northern Mexico suffered almost complete annihilation at the hands of the American policy makers of the late nineteenth century, policy makers that chose to justify their means by ignoring their own tyrannical ways.
The Choctaw Indians were an important tribe, and the largest of the Muskogean tribes. The Choctaws have two stories about their origins in their traditional homeland in central Mississippi. One is that their ancestors came from west of the Mississippi River and settled in what is now the homeland. The other is that the tribe is descended from ancestors who were formed by a spirit from the damp earth of Nanih Waiyah, a large mound in northeastern Mississippi. Either way, the Choctaws resided in places, holding most of Southern Alabama and Mississippi with adjoining parts of Louisiana.
Sibling relationships relates to brothers sisters and in a lot of families in this era step-brothers and step-sisters. Family is hopefully the other members of each side of the parent’s family who are involved with the child at some point, in some families this is a very strong relationship due to religion or beliefs and in others distance or other reasons may mean that family are not around as much. Friendships, these hopefully are being built even as babies if babies are taken to groups to socialise and learn how to be with other babies and children. Emotional relationships are the ones that affect the child the most so if a parent shouts for one reason or another the child will feel upset as they do not like a person they care about raising their voice. Acquaintances can be anyone from the health visitor to the post person if they are a regular person who is seen every so often, my son has to see the bin men on a Friday morning and watch them empty our bins and say thank you.
Ethnographically, people like the !Kung bushmen are very specialized. In actuality, any and all of the remaining societies that have survived outside of mainstream culture must be very specialized. There are few places in the world untouched by civilized man (perhaps none at all), and the only places that have managed to elude him thus far are the regions that are generally unwanted. These places, like the Kalahari, Arctic Circle, and South American Jungle, are the only locations containing native people living in their traditional ways. All of the people living in these places have to live in a very specific way, or they simply cannot survive on what the land gives them. Of, course all of the ethnographic records we have show highly specialized people, we killed all the ones that lived where they could be more generalized and still survive.
It is hard to believe that tribal societies can have a better life than the luxurious modern wealthy societies. In the book Tribe, Sebastian Junger stresses on the deterioration of mental health in modern wealthy societies, which is caused from the loss of people interacting with each other as a community. Unlike the modern wealthy societies, Junger utilizes tribal communities to show how being active within the community can promote mental stability. The author uses the !Kung tribe as evidence to compare the difference in mental health to the modern wealthy societies. The !Kung tribe is a nomadic group of people who lived in the Kalahari desert. The Swazi people live in a small land locked country border on three sides by South Africa. They have a wide range of ecological zones; rainforest in the north, west mountainous regions, the center is level land and the east scrubby lowveld. It mostly rains in the summer, which is strangely from December to April. The people are hard workers are originating from the Nguni clan of North Africa. Because of their location many European hunters, traders, farmers, and missionaries came to their area bringing the skills and trades with them. This caused the Nguni people to become what is now known as the Swazi people with a new and mixed culture.
