Thanksgiving Poem Analysis

Gratitude is the quality of being thankful, which is shown in both the Thanksgiving poem and Another Case of Ingratitude. The Thanksgiving poem expresses pure gratitude, whereas in Another Case of Ingratitude the homeless man shows gratitude in a way that is not common. In Another Case of Ingratitude, the homeless man displays basic gratitude for his food with a thankful expression on his face. He shows minimal gratitude with only a facial expression. He is clearly limited in his ability to be thankful. On the other hand, in the poem, the author states all the things in life that everyone should be grateful for, like friends, love, and good health. The author conveys abundant joy through his words. He is so thankful for all the things he is

blessed with. Another Case of Ingratitude shows the homeless man thanking the boy for money because now he can buy a bed for the night. The homeless man is appreciative that he can finally rest after not sleeping for two nights. He will be able to sleep in a nice and cozy bed for the first time in a while. The author of the poem states,"For rest and shelter of the night." Similarly, the author is also appreciative of the bed that he gets to sleep in. Every night he has the same warm, comfortable bed to come home to. The author of the poem is thankful for anything that comes his way, big or small. The homeless man just takes what he gets and doesn't realize how important those things are. You can clearly understand that the author of the poem is absolutely grateful for all the gifts that he is blessed with. The homeless man is more defensive than grateful for the gifts he has been offered. While both written works demonstrate gratitude, each vary greatly in the amount of gratitude that is shown.
