The science behind tennis rackets
The tennis racket is the most fundamental tool needed by an individual to play a game of tennis. When choosing a racquet there are many factors to take into consideration such as the frame of the racket and the tension of the strings on the racket. There are many other factors to consider, however for the purpose of this report only the two factors listed above will be discussed.
The strings of a tennis racket
The strings on a tennis racket are set to the player’s desired tension depending on whether they prefer fast paced games with little control over the ball or slower games with increased control over the ball. The tension of the strings therefore affects the control a player has on the ball and the speed

This meant that the deformation of the racket’s frame when it came into contact with the ball was significantly less allowing for some of the stored energy in the racket to be returned to the ball. This reduced the amount of energy lost from the racket allowing for faster game play. Because steel was much stronger than wood and it deformed less, the rackets had a longer life span as they were less prone to break, thus being more economically viable for the average player.
Composite Frames
The biggest advance to date regarding tennis racket design is the production of composite rackets. Composite rackets can be produced from a range of materials including graphite, aluminium, and carbon fibre. These rackets are 35% to 40% lighter than their wooden counterparts. (USC; Quest for Perfect Racket)
Due to the significant decrease in weight the rackets have become more comfortable to play with and easier to control. These new composite materials have also drastically increased the stiffness of the racket so that its deformation during game play is significantly less. This means that a larger portion of the stored energy within the racket is returned to the ball, which is an improvement to the earlier steel and wooden

Every player wants an economically viable racket that is light and can meet their playing style whether it be for increased power or better control. That is why engineers are constantly researching new ways and ideas to combine different materials to design the perfect racket. However the question is can there ever be ‘the perfect racket’ as everyone has different playing styles and some might find this ‘perfect racket’ to be too heavy, too long or just uncomfortable to play with. I think the ultimate goal for an engineer is to be able to design the perfect racket that deforms less during game play for that specific player. The introduction of composite frames has pushed engineers in the right
Tennis serve Introduction to tennis Tennis is a sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will.
(b) Markings. Racquetball courts shall be marked with lines 1 1/2 inches wide as follows:
“The Americans dominated the global tennis racket market in 2015, accounting for a share of 49.2%. The region is expected to continue leading the market during the forecast period, with an estimated 51.21% market share in 2020.” (Business Wire)
The innovations in the material of the tennis racquet — the strings and the frame — have changed tennis throughout the years; thus, fundamentally changing the game by allowing players to hit with more power, spin, and racquet speed. Many star professional tennis players in the past and present use new technology to help take their game to new levels. The change from a wooden racquet to a carbon-fiber tennis racquet and the change from cow gut strings to non-gut synthetic strings have changed the way tennis is played.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body of tennis. Established in 1881, the mission of the USTA is to “promote and develop the growth of tennis.” The mission statement serves as the guiding principle for all activities of the United States Tennis Association. The USTA is the largest tennis organization in the world. It operates with the assistance of 17 section associations, serving more than 665,000 members and 7,800 organizational members.
It is said that in 1949, Sobek and a partner began playing with a paddle and combined the rules of handball and squash to play what they called “paddle racquets.” He then decided to change from a paddle to a racquet itself using a tennis racquet as a model. He made 25 to sell to his friends to start the sport. There was one problem though; there were faults in the ball. Sobek then found a Spalding ball made for children that work well. He bought a lot of them and sold him to his friends in 1950 to keep his sport from dwindling out. Sobek eventually started his own company to make his own ball to his exact specifications for the game.
...ne and the advancements that the equipment has made. For a physical project I will build a set of golf clubs to use for the upcoming golf season. I will compare the score that I have shot with my old clubs and the clubs that I have built for my senior project. This will help me further understand how it was to build the clubs that you play with like many men did generations ago. The great Ben Hogan sums up the game of golf the best with," It's the hardest darn game that will bring you back every time with that one elusive shot."(Hist. Of golf coarse, 7)
The conclusion of the matter is, obviously, real tennis uses more energy and increases heart rate considerably more than playing Wii Tennis. Yes, Wii Tennis may decrease weight and requires more energy than the average game, but it will never beat the real thing.
Striving to become a professional racquetball player is an admirable goal that will give you satisfaction and pride for the rest of your life. Most people can become professional racquetball players if they are willing to dedicate sufficient time and energy into improving themselves both in terms of physical fitness and on the court. Very few people who endeavor to become professionals in racquetball succeed, but the rewards associated with success are distributed in proportion to the adversity that was overcome along the way.
Years of playing the game and not improving, Gawande incidentally finds himself play tennis with a young man who is a tennis couch. The young man gives Gawande a tip about keeping his feet under his body when hitting the ball. At first he is uncertain, stating, “My serve had always been the best part of my game….. With a few minutes of tinkering, he’d added at least ten miles an hour to my serve. I was serving harder than I ever had in my life” (Gawande, 2011, p.3).
To sum things up, the teacher showed a lesson towards the book “The Inner Game of Tennis” has more than the lesson of playing tennis. This book show the process of having the basics thing done and just continue to evolve your skills with it. Techniques and skills that are the key point is very important in life involvement. My teacher told us that keeping this mentality will help you continue to have a successful life if you keep this
The way Morgan incorporated tennis into his game is by using a similar net; however, he raised the height to six feet and six inches off the ground. He also created this game for his fellow businessman Blain. When Morgan invented his game he came up with a set of rules, however many of his rules have been changed or there are new ones. One of the rules to this game is that before the game starts, there is a coin toss. This coin toss determines which team gets to decide who gets the serve first.
Serving starts each point play. The players stand on opposite ends of each other, and the person serving is called the Server and the other the Receiver. Serving must be done from behind the baseline. When serving, toss the ball in the air and hit it before it touches the ground. There is a service court that the ball must land in first only when serving. It is a square opposite end of service area. The Server becomes the Receiver, and the Receiver becomes the Server after each game. After a good service ball, the ball is in play. Play does not stop until one of the players hits the ball out of bounds, into the net, or fail to hit the ball before it bounces twice. Serving just takes practice and can be a main asset in tennis.
Golf balls are ever changing when it comes to small design elements. As with most sports equipment, manufacturers are always searching for the next innovation to try and make the perfect
