Selena Statue Thousands of Selena fans pay tribute to the Tejano darling annually at the city's memorial in her honor, La Mirador de la Flor. But few know how the monument along the bayfront at the corner of Shoreline Boulevard and Peoples Street came to exist. Businessman and philanthropist William R. "Dusty" Durrill helped develop and fund the $600,000 statue and pavilion. It was dedicated in May 1997, two years after Selena's death. Durrill said he thought there should be a prominent commemoration where people could pay their respects.Durrill died in April of heart failure at 82. Mosaic tiles surrounding the bronze statue are designed by Aloe Tile Works, the same company that created the South Texas Music Walk of Fame,
Raul Ramirez is a very confident, creative student that is in Mr.Ward’s high school english class in The Bronx,New York, who loves to paint. Raul used to paint his sister by bribing her with whatever he could scunge up,but know his girlfriend just sits for him. He knows that painting will not give him much money and tells the readers by saying “People just don’t get it.Even if I never make a dime --which,by the way, ain’t gonna happen--I’d still have to paint.” Raul is also a very shy teenager that wants to be an artist and will be the first person in his family to be a painter if he becomes one. The thing is even though his “brothers” don’t support him--by laughing at him and saying he's loco-- he still wants to paint and says it by saying
One of the most well known figures of the twentieth century pottery world is Maria Martinez. Maria Martinez is a Pueblo Indian part of the San Ildefondo tribe. Pueblo pottery from the American Southwest holds a unique place in ceramic art forms of American art. It is full of age-old tradition and culture handed down form family members and potters of the past. The old Pueblo ways of creating it still hold true today and have not been changed or influenced like so many other styles in modern times.
Yuny and Renenutet is a two figure statue. It’s a double portrait with a frontal pose. It’s a relief sculpture with a male and female figure. Yuny and Renenutet are husband and wife. They are sitting down together on a bench. It’s a beach that highlights their bodies’ curves emphasizing their wealth. Both figures have nontraditional customs, but a more a fashionable custom. The chair that Yuny and Renenutet are seated is elegantly decorated. On the back of the chair, we see two scenes divided into two layers with inscription around it.
The Statue of a kouros and the Portrait statue of a boy both depict similar subjects, however are greatly different in how they accomplish this task. Through detail, or lack there of, the Greeks and Romans are able to display a certain value they have in its members. These two statues were made about 500 years apart and approach the sculpting process quit differently. The Greek statue seems to use geometric exaggerated lines to form the body while the Romans use a more realistic approach and sculpt the body with a more rounded finish. Statue of a kouros, from about 590 B.C and Portrait of a boy, from about the first century, do not share any great technical aspects and are basically nothing alike.
The Aztec Calendar stone has become one Mexico’s national symbols. After decades of Latin American Art being degraded, underappreciated, forgotten, and abused, it has become one of Mexico’s most national treasures. After years of research from the Codex Mendoza, the Calendar, and documents by the Spanish conquistadors, it has gradually become clear as to how the Aztecs truly lived and how art played such a huge role in their society. It has not only given researchers insight to the Aztec culture and religion and has also given influence to modern and the mainstream media today such as fashion and graphic design.

Hernan Cortes Myths are "hangups from way back":[1] false or highly inaccurate beliefs that are taken at face value. One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful grip on the minds of many, and contributed to feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of "pure" or "mixed" descendants of Native Americans in the region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the "Aztec Empire" by HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. This paper attempts to shatter one of these myths; namely, that Cortes was an extraordinarily brave and intelligent individual who accomplished an almost miraculous feat. It will do so by making use of the twin concepts of virtue and fortune. These two terms are basic to Niccolo Machiavelli's thinking.
In the world today, there are many spectacular sculptures and artworks. The statue of Zeus at Olympia was possibly the most famous statue in the ancient world. It is known to be one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Greek sculptor Phidias made it about 435 BC, and dedicated to Zeus the king of gods. The statue of Zeus was the greatest statue to be built in Greece. The artists of this statue captured the royalty of the king by seating Zeus on a throne to inspire tremendous awe in all that witnessed this statue.
To help me understand and analyze a different culture, I watched the film Selena. The film tells the life story of the famous singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. Not only does it just tell personal stories from her life, it also gives insight to the Mexican-American culture. Her whole life she lived in the United States, specifically in Texas, but was Hispanic and because of that both her and her family faced more struggles than white singers on the climb to her success. Even though the film is a story about a specific person, it brought understanding into the culture in which she lived. Keeping in mind that these ideas that I drew about the Mexican-American culture is very broad and do not apply to every single person in the culture, there were very obvious differences in their culture and the one that I belong. Mexican-American culture identifies with their family rather than individualized or spiritual identities and the culture has gone through significant changes because of discrimination and the changing demographics of the United States.

Statue of Liberty was copper colored but now its green? The statue of liberty used to be a bronze color but now its green but why? The copper coating on the statue was originally a copper carbonate this gives the compound its original color that it had. Unfortunately, since the statue is near the ocean, salt water, which is the compound sodium chloride reacted with the copper coating and created a new compound. Also which was called copper chloride this compound has a distinct green color.
I chose to study Jean-Antoine Houdon’s statue of George Washington. In the 1780’s the Virginia legislature commissioned a statue "to be of the finest marble and the best workmanship,". This indicated they wanted European craftsmanship.
The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty island in New York City. Liberty island sits in the Upper New York Bay. 4 million people go to see the Statue of Liberty each year. It is one of New York's best attraction. Tourists bring in over 1.5 million dollars each year by just visiting Liberty island alone. The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France a long time ago. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886. It is now designated as a National Monument. This monument shows a lady, “Lady Liberty”. She holds a torch in the right hand and a tablet in the left with the words “ July 4th 1776’ engraved on it. The ways women and men are depicted in these visual sources are that they show affection for one another at a publicly. Their position gives off the physical attraction and connection. However, through this visual representation, there still was a sense of hierarchy presented in their roles of Maya society. Men were considered to be masculine, whereas women were given a reserved attitude that showed a lower, yet equally balanced pose to the elite circles. Despite the advantage, there was a contrasting perspective in regards to their “worth” in
I chose to write about the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty serves as a symbolic fixture of the principles America was founded on. She represents freedom, liberty, and opportunity. The location of the Statue of Liberty is an amazing feat in itself, it is right in the middle of a very wide and a very deep Hudson river, and at the time it was brought there, with the limited technology, was amazing. Adding to the location, The State of Liberty as everyone knows is right next to the old customs ports where thousands of hungry, and poor immigrants fresh off the boat would pass through looking for a better life. The fact that Liberty is a woman is an ingenious idea because a woman tends to be more sympathetic and willing to help, if Liberty was a man the statue would seem more cold, stiff, and even militant. Throughout history statues have been built to represent a great moment but the Statue of Liberty was build to symbolize a great idea and country. At that time in history people were flocking to America because they were either being persecuted in their home countries or they were just disappointed at the status of their lives and wanted to come to “the land of opportunity” to start a new life.
