All teenagers would love to say that they have not fallen victim to peer pressure, but most of the time a teenager’s first drink occurs due to peer pressure: simple suggestion, for example “Just take one drink” or “You’ll have more fun once you start drinking” carry weight when spoken by a BFF, a popular athlete, or a respected peer. Teenagers see and hear about alcohol while watching tv, listening to music, and just hanging out with friends. Teenage drinking occurs for one reason: to get drunk so you’ll be someone else, outgoing and more confident with yourself so maybe you’ll talk to that person or actually interact in a group. When engaged in underage drinking most of the time your parent or guardian don’t know your exact location or everything thing that will happen at this “sleepover”. Most parents don’t fall under the definition of stupid and realize that teenage drinking does occur, but teenagers always feel the need to try and be sneaky. Trying to cover up your bad choices usually leads to other bad events occurring. When you find yourself somewhere without permission and get caught, you might engage in drunk driving. Even for adults over the age of 21 drunk driving and accidents still happen. However, the statistics are higher for accidents due to drunk driving because of teenagers due to the fact that teens find themselves scared to contact someone for a ride due to the idea of getting in trouble. However, most parents would much rather getting a phone call asking for a ride home because you missed up instead of the phone call saying their kid has died or has killed someone else in a car accident. When you’re kid enters high school and the chances of them partying increases, you should really sit down with them. Have the talk about what they should do when they face these types of situations.
