Parental Involvement in Teen Dating Relationships Teen years are a difficult time, with hormones out of control, trying to fit in, and figuring who you are. Dating is a big deal during this time because everyone starts to do it so one might feel peer pressured into wanting to date also. Without having any experience it can be really difficult for teens, relationships can go bad and the teen can become hopeless. This is why we believe that parents should be involved in their teen 's dating experience. By the parents being involved they can provide their teens with expectations that they have for them, they will have a less chance of falling victims of domestic relationships, parents will be able to provide emotional support to their child …show more content…
For example, if your significant other cheated on you and your parents found out about it and do not approve with you ever getting back with that person because of what they did. No matter how many times your parents tell you not to see nor communicate with that person, but you still want to be with them, at the end of the day you’re not going to care what your parents think or say about the situation because you think that they just do not understand or are just overreacting. You parents should work as mentors in your relationship; they should only give you their opinion on it but should not get in between. If you tell your parents that you and that other person are communicating or seeing each other again after what happened, the only thing that they are going to do is bash the other person because of the situation, but it won’t matter because if you want to be with that person you’re going to do what you want to do. Your decision is your decision, whether you get back with that person should only be yours and not your parents. If it works out then good for you, but if becomes another heartbreak then you and especially your parents should just take it as a lesson
Belongingness is an emotion that everyone longs to feel throughout the course of their lives. Starting in adolescence, we as humans are naturally attracted to others in a romantic way. Girls in junior high start wearing make-up and dressing nice in order to impress the boys and get their attention. During this time, both girls and boys want a boyfriend or girlfriend, and are interested in this idea of “dating.” As boys and girls progress into high school, dating becomes even more of the thing to do. As a young teenager, I wanted to date, but my parents were against it. Many parents have a negative outlook about dating because of the consequences it may lead to, mainly sexual activity. Some believe that dating has changed drastically for the worse, but Beth Bailey believes differently. In Bailey’s article entitled “From Front Porch to Backseat: A History of the Date,” she analyzes the history of dating and how numerous people have not conceptualized this idea correctly. By showing authority, evidence, and values, Bailey presents an effective argument about the history of dating.
The headline, “Recession Causes Increase in Teen Dating Violence”, clearly affirms a causal relationship between the economic recession, and the increase in teen relationship violence. Specifically, causation can be described as one event causing an effect within a specific scenario. As you see in the headline title, a recession assumes the responsibility for an increase in teen date violence. Hence, with this headline we observe a cause and effect relationship.
In our adolescence we experience many things that can affect our live. When we are at young age, we are more at risk to get into addictions. We want to experiment new things that adults do like smoke, drink alcohol or even do drugs. But during this period of time we are in school, we also experiment our first sentimental relationship. In the scientific article by Giordano, Longmire and Manning entitled, “Gender and the Meanings of Adolescent Romantic Relationships: A Focus on Boys. It talks about some main points of relationship those are communication, emotion and influence. Sometimes is not what we expect from the person or in reality is that we think different than others. With the time we may experience lots of relationships it could be
The rate of American teens leaving home has continued to rise each year. The United States must educate more young people about the dangers of leaving home and living on your on the streets. Runaway teens encounter problems such as drugs, violence, and reliable resources.
Arnett (2000) explains the nature of romantic relationships in adolescence as tentative and transient where dating has more of a social component rather than romantic. He also describes dating in adolescence as often taking place in groups, where “adolescents share recreation such as parties, dances, and hanging out” (p. 473). It is evident that romantic relationships in adolescence are unstable, short-lived, and lack the mature component seen across adult romantic relationships. Arnett conveys that exploration in love becomes more serious and intimate during emerging adulthood. As opposed to adolescent romantic relationships, dating in emerging adulthood “is more likely to take place in couples, and the focus is less on recreation and more on exploring the potential for emotional and physical intimacy” (473). For instance, an adolescent in high school may seek a romantic partner to gain some sort of social status or experience in the process of romantic exploration whereas a senior in college may seek a long-term and mature partner to build a life with in adulthood. Exploration in the area of love during emerging adulthood “tends to involve a deeper level of intimacy, and the implicit question
Relationship plays vital role in our life. As we grow up, we have passed many relationships with every person that we meet in our life. Relationship can motivate someone or make someone feel worse when the relationship does not work. In relationship, everyone needs to give their commitments or the relationship will fall to the ground. Everyone has their own story behind relationship term. I have my own story and I will explain it in terms of the 10 relationship stages in this essay. My story is about my first love with this one beautiful girl.
Dating back then versus dating now seems to clash when put side by side. The way people meet, their intentions, and the whole dating process has changed over the years and has only partially stayed the same for a few people. Dating back then had something more to it than dating today does. Dating back then was for love and dating now is for fun. Love no longer seems to be the main focus when dating for today’s teens and is rarely found around that age. Although it is being searched for in the world of dating, without the right approach

Emma Sorbring stated it best when she said that a teenager would be willing to disclose their experiences with their parents if they have always had good experiences talking things over with them and
Those are my reasons why I think parents should meet the person their teen is dating. A third reason, parents should set rules for teens to date is because break-ups don’t always end up on a good note. In the article “Teen Dating Guidelines” by Jessica Childs, Clark mentions “ A lot of us… myself included, had 2-3 year relationships in high school. That’s where hearts get broken in a very different way”. Yes everyone goes through break-ups but not everyone takes them the same way.
Dating use to be simple. Two people get to know each other, go on a few dates, and then one day they decide to be boyfriend and girlfriend. However, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. The term “Dating” is getting used less every day. Dating is a thing of the past because it takes a longer process for two people to determine if they are ready to commit, the term “talking” has replaced the word dating, and because people don't stay fully committed to one person anymore.
Throughout most of my life I have gained friendships and relationships with others that have turned into long term, but others which only lasted a short while. The friendship that has greatly impacted my life significantly over the last eight years is someone who means so much to me. This meaningful friendship all started back when I was in middle school, which has grown stronger over the years. I met Brooke in middle school because we had some of the same classes and were in homeroom together. Our friendship developed quickly and lasted throughout our high school years. We became really close our Junior and Senior year of high school. But, maintaining our friendship hasn’t always been so easy. Today, we text and call each other on our free time, but I know I can count and rely on her when I need someone to talk too. I call her my second sister and vice versa. And when we go home on breaks we see one another as much as we can. The best part of our relationship is that if one is in need of advice or in need of a shoulder to cry on, we are always there for one another. Keeping in contact is very important in our relationship and communication has played a key role in our relationship.
“Relationships are what make up our world today, they shape the ways we see things and the way that we do things, relationships affect how we see the world today”. I believe supporting what your partner does, having a great sum of trust and showing your affections towards your partner is what will make a healthy relationship great.
As humans, we are constantly building relationships with others and meeting new people, but sometimes it 's hard to maintain a relationship with another person, when only one person is engaged in it. All healthy relationships or friendships should be based upon the concepts of caring, supporting, and spending time with each other, and if one person is not able to provide these concepts towards the other person, then the relationship quickly becomes one-sided.
