In this generation, teen moms are becoming popular to society. You can turn on the TV and find shows such as “Teen Mom” and “16 and Pregnant”, but are these shows good or bad? They actually help out a lot. TV shows about teen parenting have lowered birth rates for teens, show the struggles of teen parenting, and help teens use safe sex techniques. Many studies have shown that teenagers who watch shows about teen moms are more likely to not getting pregnant in their teen years. “MTV’s 16 and Pregnant franchise is responsible for almost 6 percent of the recent declines in teen births in the United States” (Kempner). All teens who are sexually active should watch these programs. Before this, in the US, 750,000 teens would get pregnant each year (Sun). This amount of pregnancies is erratic and it’s something that needed to be taken care of. If one show can make a difference, why not have your teens watch it. It would only benefit them and give them a better understanding of how things really are. Another example of why these shows are so beneficial is because they show the struggles ...
...he realization of having sex to young and getting pregnant. Even though these shows reveal some struggle that these young girls have being pregnant and having to raise a child at a young age, I also believe it shows the fascination of it, young girls are impressionable and they only see the families helping these girls, the fun to play dress up and buy nice things for a baby. To a girl that may just want to feel loved or have something to love these shows may give the wrong impression of the way to receive it. I do not believe any show of this nature can help the generation of the girls today. I believe any television show or music that exploits sex, nudity, or body image should be banned or never published to save this generation. Social media needs to have stricter bans with signing up to their sites to try and eliminate under age children to experience it.
16 & Pregnant is a TV show aired on MTV that as the name suggests, focuses on the lives of various teens who are pregnant whilst still in high school; each tells a different story. In these episodes, viewers are able to observe the struggles these teens face as a result of pregnancy during pubescent development. Controversy has been made as a result of the release of this show; this left viewers torn between whether 16 & Pregnant discourages teen pregnancy or shrouds it within curiosity. There is more than sufficient evidence to say that 16 & Pregnant, does in fact discourage teen pregnancy for various reasons. According to the New York Times report, the National Bureau of Economic Research compared Nielsen television ratings to birth records, and concluded that in areas where teens viewed MTV more after the debut of 16 & Pregnant, there was a rapid decline of teen pregnancy rates when compared to other areas that viewed it less frequently although some believe the show glamorizes the subject matter. Some also believe that it encourages the teens to disrespect their parents in every way possible; quite to the contrary, watching 16 & Pregnant is very beneficial to discouraging teen pregnancy and family problems by displaying the hardships these teens face, teaching the importance of completing high school and encouraging viewers to use various contraceptives methods or practice abstinence.
Have you ever met someone who acted just as teens are stereotyped? Not many people have because they do not exist. Real teens are poorly portrayed in the media and are the complete opposite of their stereotypes. Books and TV shows make teens out to be wild or crazy, irresponsible and out of control. One hardly ever hears about teen-heroes. Instead, newspapers and magazines are plastered with stories of teens and crime. And while looking at commercial billboards and other related media, the regular teen seems to be sex-crazed and image-obsessed.
Teen pregnancy, in my opinion, is awful. I feel that young women should not be having children at such a young age. I feel that these teenagers that are having babies are children themselves, and do not know how to take care of them as well as an older, more mature person might.
be the most 'real' form of media". If this is the case, then it is
Society today tends to fixate on and gravitate to television shows. Certain people even believe some of the families depicted on these shows are what a normal family should be. There are two types of television networks, broadcast and cable. Broadcast television stations are the channels that air for free, while cable you pay a subscription for. While television is a great platform for various issues and ideas, I believe that most broadcast television stations’ depictions do not accurately represent families are or what they go through. For example, while soap operas tend to be exceedingly sensational and over the top, most comedies gloss over the terrible things that may befall a family. Gritty crime shows and other dramas try to portray families more accurately, but still must follow certain rules. For this reason, dramas still tend to be unrealistic. The recent rise of popular cable television programs highlight key content regulations that contribute heavily to inaccurate family portrayals and ultimately, the broadcast networks’ decline. I believe these regulations on content are outdated.
What are the odds that it would be difficult for teenagers to struggle to have to take care of a baby? The odds are very high. But some teens like to take the chance of having unprotected sex, and it ends up with them being a parent and not being able to go out with friends and have fun because they have a huge responsibility that needs to be fed and burped frequently. “16 and Pregnant” do not promote teen pregnancy; it shows the real lives of teen parenthood and the consequences that will be faced if there is no birth control being used. Teens will not have fun, they will have a hard time finishing school, they need to work for diapers, not movie tickets, and they will have a lot more challenges having to be faced than the average teen. No child should be taken care of another child, it just ends up having to rely on everyone on everything. This situation lays on a bed of problems. This can be avoided by watching someone else’s experience and not having to create for
...e becoming more and more common everyday with the movies with people getting drunk and smoking weed making it look like it’s the best thing ever and that only cool people does it makes teenagers expertise that leading to a new addiction. Exposing sex on TV is not only affecting the children but it’s affecting the teenagers making them curious about life and trying to experience new stuff leading to a teen pregnancy or sometimes diseases. All these are serious problems that USA has in society today but since TV has become an everyday thing for every American family that all these different issues do not really seem to be relevant because all these problems are a part of society. If people want to look for a solution to solve the violence, the young sex, and the profanity in the teenager’s first people need to solve the number one problem that no one thinks of The TV.
There is a great debate on whether or not mass media has an influence on teenage pregnancy. A study done by the RAND Corporation shows that teens are twice as likely to have sex or engage in sexual acts if they see similar sexual behavior in the media. Many objects in the media that involve sex target teens. Reality TV shows and teen dramas often portray the "cool kids" as the ones who are having sex (Chandra).Today’s teens are highly influenced by what they see in the media and this can change their behavior and choices. Some will argue that the media doesn’t influence teenagers, but how can we be sure of that? Today, the media portray teen pregnancy in movies, television shows, magazines, music, news reports, and books. The problems caused by the media in relation to teenage pregnancy can be solved through education, elimination of the glamorization of teen pregnancy, and realistic depictions of parenting.
Here I am, seventeen years old and a senior in high school. The same age my birth mother was when she was pregnant with her third child. Could you imagine how difficult that would be? Planning graduation and what you could do for your child? When my birth mother had me at age 13, there were no shows like 16 and pregnant. In 2009, MTV started the show 16 and pregnant hoping that young viewers would learn and wait to start their families. Four years into the TV show teen pregnancy rates were at a record low. “ Births to teen moms have been steadily dropping since 1991, down to 44 percent in nine years. Rates dropped nine percent from 2009-2010 alone, reaching a historic low of 34.4 births per 100 woman aged 15-19.” Stated the CDC. Shows like
There are at least 30% of teen mothers in the U.S and whether or not you support their decisions they are normal people just like us,and they go through things everyday. They face difficult tasks , just like regular teenagers. teen mothers do go through challenges, such as health concerns, their education, and economical issues. Before these teens were mothers, they didn’t really pay attention to this stuff, but now it’s magnified. This makes life just a little bit harder.
Attention Getter: Nowadays, no one is astonished by the presence of pregnant or parenting teenagers. In fact we have a fascination with pregnant adolescents which is evident in the creation of “16 and Pregnant,” a MTV series that follows the real-life stories of American youth who have engaged in sexual activity and who have realized that reproduction system works because they are or will be parents to a cute baby boy or girl. We watch this series in anticipation of the child’s birth and to witness how the teen parents cope.

Sexual talk on television has a major effect on children at an earlier age. Sexual content on television effects juveniles and can have a negative influence on them when they are at a young age. Sexual content on television is a horrible and a bad idea. Teens could have an unplanned pregnancy and also get sexually transmitted diseases. When viewing sexual content, children are
Pregnancy is continuing to be a typical occurrence with teenage girls. It is becoming more and more likely for girls to have children during their teen years, than it is for women who are above the age of 22. It is now the new normal to expect teen pregnancy before graduating among girls. MTV has even broadcasted a television show on the lives of teen moms and raising a child. Just like the television show on MTV, the reasons of why the media believes the situation of teen pregnancy should be brought to attention can be viewed in a variety ways. Social media stamps teen pregnancy as a negative choice of life even though it is commonly seen. An advertisement was published to the public on how teen pregnancy can affect the possibility of their
