Teenagers play an important role in society since they are old enough to have their own opinions but aren’t regarded by adults to have opinions worth sharing. Song highlights many important ideas like teenagers have a lot to do with worldwide issues such as gun control and LGBT rights. “Like adults, teens deserve to speak and to have the opportunity to be heard, and we deserve the respect that any other adult would expect. We shouldn’t be counted out just for our age when many of us are mature beyond our years. We shouldn’t be belittled or disregarded for having the audacity to believe we can make a difference.(“Why More Adults Need to Value Teenage Voices by Isabel Song)” Song believes that not all teenagers should be stereotyped as lazy, selfish, and arrogant because their voices should be counted in society. If adults keep on neglecting on teenagers, they won’t see the amazing things that teenagers are doing right now for the

Adolescents are known for, or rather stereotyped as, having rebellious tendencies. These tendencies are explored in films, novels, television shows, and even studies conducted by professors and researchers worldwide. Teenage angst has been a major source of discussion for before 1595 with the publication of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Rebel Without a Cause, released in 1955, exemplifies this topic being discussed in a manner that is relatable to a wide array of teenagers. Exploring this issue while also making it relatable to adolescents rather than simply a criticism of their personalities is an admirable feat, one that Rebel Without a Cause accomplishes by making use of several techniques.
Activism is very important to me and I strive to not just stand and watch the world with criticism but rather make the changes I’d like to see. Santa Clara University’s strategic vision promises to educate with intents to build a more humane world through compassion and competence which appeals to me strongly. My interest in IO psychology stems from wanting to do as much as I can to help businesses change in a way that will increase productivity and general satisfaction. I believe that Santa Clara University’s strategic vision will incorporate well into this goal by teaching me how to positively and patiently work with the world around me. Along with this Santa Clara University's location in silicon valley and its recognition as the oldest
I am deeply committed to social activism; the words of Desmond Tutu inform my actions every day: “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” At Phillips Academy, I am active in Women’s Forum, BOSS Magazine, and GSA.These activities give me the opportunity to speak out on issues such as race, feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, and intersectionality, but as much I value discussion, I would like to move beyond mere conversation; I want to do something. I want my life and my work to make a difference in the world.
As young people’s civic and political participation continues to decline, a number of organizations are working to reverse the decline by increasing opportunities for youth to participate. Communities around the country are taking steps to engage young people through a variety of methods that allow youth to actually participate in policy development and take action on local issues. The effectiveness of such community programs on long-term civic engagement is not well documented, however. This paper presents preliminary research about the effectiveness of one community participation program, the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s Youth Advisory Council. Quantitative and anecdotal evidence, while not conclusive, suggest this community problem solving approach may encourage its participants to engage in other civic and political activities. The paper also discusses the benefits that organizations and communities receive when young people participate in this way, and provides recommendations for developing a similar youth participation program.
Activism is not where you originate from or where you are located, it’s what you do. Activism allows us to make social changes; this can occur in many different ways. It allows us to make a change in the world through political, social, economic, and sometimes even through environmental changes. It’s usually lead by individuals but the majority of the time people gather collectively through social movements. An activist is the principal of a social movement. Activist arouses particular information that impacts individuals and allow them to gather, protest, and make social changes. All of them have had past experiences and want to help other kids to not have the same things happen in their lives.
A big question asked amongst people sometimes is “Can a teenager make a difference, and if they do is it positive?” a lot of people just brush it off sometimes and think that because they’re young and don’t have the same experience as some older people, they are bound to make mistakes. This is not always the case, as some teens can make a difference, whether it be in large scale that affects the world or in a smaller scale affecting the community or society. There are a couple kids that have make a difference, although some of the things they have done might be greater compared to others, they still have made a difference in where they live and the people in their communities.
“A change is brought about because ordinary people do extraordinary things” - Barack Obama. Teen activism is when one person stands out in front of the world making a change for the better. At any age people have the opportunity for choice, and the choices you make will sometimes change your life dramatically, while in other situations the choice you choose to make will not affect your life at all. Even though teens may sometimes make choices that will affect them and others around them in a bad way, having a wide opportunity for choice is extremely helpful for today's American teens. This is helpful because teens can find a way to solve problems in a mature manner and will have the opportunity to make choices that help others, not just themselves.
