A reign of terror shocked civilians during the 1970s. Female students started vanishing inexplicably and suddenly. Frantically looking, investigators could not find a link to the offender at large. There were several similarities of each victim, indicating that there was only one person behind the disappearances. When caught, America quickly learned that nit every serial killer fits the standard profile. Ted Bundy was an extremely intelligent and intriguing man who targeted and preyed on young women; spreading a reign of terror all across America, earning the title as on of America’s most notorious serial killers. It was rumored that some of the missing women were last seen in the company of a young, dark-haired man known as "Ted." (Biography.com Editors 2017) Bundy moved to Utah to attend law school, during his stay there, women began disappearing. Bundy was pulled over by the police while in Utah, a search of his cars uncovered burglary tools. (Biography.com Editors 2017) He was arrested for possession of the burglary kit, and it was then the police began to link him to more sinister crimes. In 1975, Bundy was arrested in the kidnapping of Carol DaRonch, one of the few women to escape him, he was convicted and received a jail sentence. Two years later, Bundy was charged with murder of a Colorado woman. At this time, Bundy made his first escape from custody by jumping out of a window while on his way to the courthouse library, he was captured eight days later. Bundy made his second escape from custody in 1977.(Biography.com Editors 2017) During this time Bundy made his way to Tallahassee, Florida. There Bundy broke into the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University, he attacked four female residents, killing two of them. He entered the car’s information to find out it was stolen, after a struggle Bundy was captured. Upon his capture, items such as gloves, handcuffs, flashlight, ski masks, crowbar, etc. were discovered. It can be assumed that this was Bundy’s “murder kit” Bundy used handcuffs on Carol DaRonch, one of his victims that broke away. A few months after the Carol DaRonch incident, the bodies of Caryn Campbell, Susan Rancourt and Lynda Ann Healy were found, all of the victims suffered from severe head contusions from a blunt instrument, possibly a crowbar. The passenger seat was also removed and was in the back seat. Examination of fibers was also used as evidence against Bundy. In most of his crimes Bundy would have his victims remove their clothing, so he could later burn them after killing them, or in the case of Julie Cunningham, deposit it in a Goodwill bin. Bundy went as far as taking off his own clothing to prevent the investigators from finding any trace evidence. However in the murder of Kimberly Leach, fibers were collected and examined. Results showed that the fibers from Kimberly Leach's clothes, were found on Bundy’s clothing that he had allegedly worn on the day of the murder, which suggests Ted and Kimberly were in close
