Recommended: Impact of technology in leisure and recreation
Recreation is not often thought about as something that is impacted by technology. Technology has impacted recreation professionals and costumers. It has also changed equipment that people use for recreational activities. All of this has had both positive and negative affects. Computers and technology have a tremendous influence on recreation and they will continue to do so in the future.
It is safe to say that computers or some piece of technology are used in most offices today. This includes recreation offices. Computers make it easier for staff to communicate together. It is an essential part of the office. “Many users today are so dependent on their computers that they cannot perform their jobs if the computer they use, or the LAN they are on, is not functioning” (Murphy, 3). This is extremely true.
I worked at a county campground over the summer where we used computers to register our campers. There were many times, especially in the mornings when the computers wouldn’t work. When this occurred we had to tell the costumers to come back later, or call our main office. Things went a lot smoother when the computers worked. We were able to tell people what sites were available and when in just a couple of minutes. It was impossible to look up that information by hand, because it was all on our computers.
Recreational costumers benefit from computers. They are able to use the internet to sign up for classes and other recreational programs. “Park district Web sites will allow residents not only the ability to get into classes, but also to change classes, drop classes, request refunds, and to manage their accounts online” (Murphy, 3). This speeds up the process of many things, because a person doesn’t ha...

Technology in the recreation field has pros and cons. I do believe that the positives do out weigh the negatives. It has created more and different types of equipment for activities. This allows people with special needs to participate in activities they would otherwise not have the chance to do, because of the advancements in technology. It has broadened the world of recreation, and will continue to increase with time.

In Medea, a play by Euripides, Jason possesses many traits that lead to his downfall. After Medea assists Jason in his quest to get the Golden Fleece, killing her brother and disgracing her father and her native land in the process, Jason finds a new bride despite swearing an oath of fidelity to Medea. Medea is devastated when she finds out that Jason left her for another woman after two children and now wants to banish her. Medea plots revenge on Jason after he gives her one day to leave. Medea later acts peculiarly as a subservient woman to Jason who is oblivious to the evil that will be unleashed and lets the children remain in Corinth. The children later deliver a poisoned gown to Jason’s new bride that also kills the King of Corinth. Medea then kills the children. Later, she refuses to let Jason bury the bodies or say goodbye to the dead children he now loves so dearly. Jason is cursed with many catastrophic flaws that lead to his downfall and that of others around him.
Medea’s illegitimate marriage and the betrayal of Jason drive Medea to extreme revenge. Medea chooses to act with her immortal self and commit inhumane acts of murder rather than rationalize the outcomes of her actions. Medea see’s this option as her only resort as she has been banished and has nowhere to go, “stripped of her place”. To create sympathy for Medea, Euripides plays down Medea’s supernatural powers until the end of the play. Throughout the play Medea represents all characteristics found in individual women put together, including; love, passion, betrayal and revenge. Medea’s portrayal of human flaws creates empathetic emotions from the audience. The audience commiserates with Medea’s human flaws as they recognize them in themselves. Medea plays the major role in this play as she demonstrates many behavioral and psychological patterns unlike any of the other Greek women in the play; this draws the audience’s attention to Medea for sympathy and respect.
There are a few components that go along with technology. There are a lot of pros to technology, but what else is it good for? Many people think that technology is bad, but at this time of life, the good always outweighs the bad.
Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
The entire course content including envisioning, developing and implementing a recreation program, as well as preparing a grant application will be most useful in my professional career. Each component is important and necessary to create an effective recreation program that will enable the participants to have a fulfilled leisure experience and improve their quality of life. This will be useful in my professional career because I gained a good sense the value of leisure education, conducting a needs assessment and implementing
Also, children who need extra help learning, like kids with special needs, can get the help they need. For example, it has become a new medium for play and entertainment for children, but is this a healthy alternative to older forms of play? And what about parents who use technology just to keep their kids safe? As with all new technologies, there are pros and cons.
When technology such as the computer was invented it was meant more for the use of making everyday tasks at work or home easier. The original inventors had no idea that one day there would be sites like Facebook with over a million users. Now when people are at work most of the time they do not pick up the phone and call down to another office or business. They sit on the computer and either send an email ...
Throughout the essay, I will be evaluating how globalisation and technology may influence future offices being paper-less and people-less and how communication is heavily influenced by technology.
There are hundreds of hobbies and jobs that exist because of modern technology. There are hobbies and jobs for all ages and taste that would not exist if it were not for the help of modern technology.
Over the last few decades, technology has greatly increased its abilities. It started from the simple radio to now having cell phones which can surf the web. Technology has greatly influenced our society in many ways. Nowadays it has made family relationships have a different connection and has simplified people’s lives. A couple decades ago, a person would never had imagined to Skype a family member across the world. It would be like trying to imagine teleportation. It was unthinkable, but with moderation, technology has evolved for the better. With the new technology in our world, people are able to talk to their distant family members. People are also able to save time and watch a movie with their extra time. There are pros and cons to having technology nowadays. Yes, people are able to communicate faster and save money, but technology is also disconnecting them from the people around them. Technology has changed humanity for the better, but humans must know to use technology in moderation.
Recreation and Leisure activities are in a high critical dimension of quality of life for everyone, including people with developmental disabilities. Sadly, many of those who are disabled are still limited to segregated recreation and leisure choices for any reason or another. Some people will confine themselves to opportunities which include trying a new variety of activities in different settings with different people; here some of the factors that can be affecting: Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Racial and Ethnic identity, and Socioeconomic status.
Society has been impacted both negatively and positively by technology. As a result, every aspect of our lives has been influenced by technology. Hence, life is easier, yet it has taken away some of the enjoyment. For example, remember the days of less stress and more personal interaction, when there were no online messages, no emails, social media or cell phones. We have become excessively dependent on technology. As a result, we need to rely less on technology even though it has made learning fun, and business, daily tasks, work, travel, shopping, making new friends and staying in touch easier. In conclusion, technology has a lot of benefits, yet it could take over our lives and become our worst enemy if we aren't careful.
== The impact of ICT on society is great. As more and more people begin to work from home, or jobs become de-skilled, computer based, the social implications are going to be very serious. The most important issue is increased leisure time, and as more work is done in less time, the result should mean more leisure time. In some rare cases this does happen.
Computers are forever present in the workplace. Word processors-computer software packages that simplify the creational and modification of documents-have largely replaced the typewriter. Electronic mail has made it easy to send messages worldwide via computer communication networks. Office automation has become the term for linking workstations, printers, database system, and other tools by means of a local-area network. An eventual goal of office automation has been termed the 'paperless office.' Although such changes ultimately make office work much more efficient, they have not been without cost in terms of purchasing and frequently upgrading the necessary hardware and software and of training workers to use the new technology.
When I applied for a work study position at Thomas Nelson Community College, I found out the job mostly involved using the computer when I did my first interview. I had to know how to use excel along with checking emails, and organizing various files. They talked about how my computer skills along with my ability to do filing work helped get me in the position I managed to obtain. I’ve also noticed that even people like the dean of my division is very computer literate, so it just further proves my point that learning how to use computers will open up more opportunities for others to get great
