Waiting with anticipation to discover my defining moment, the moment that makes or breaks each student in the class, our final. I sank down in my chair wondering if I would pass or fail the college level English class that I had struggled with all semester. Our teacher walked into the classroom, wearing his usual white pants with a blue collared shirt and a red bow tie. He grinned as his eyes peeked over the rim of his bifocal glasses, as he casually walked to the other end of the classroom. My heart sank into my chest while his words sizzled off his tongue, "ESSAY." He then began to inform us that the essay should have at least one book source and 1200 words of information on a topic given. Everyone in the class moaned because people never use books any more. It seemed ridiculous to most when the information is just a click away.
However, I felt relief roll through my body from my toes to the base of my spine. I was relieved because I knew that any topic he gave me to write would have information on the Internet. After we all knew our assignments we each drew our own topic from a hat. I drew a piece of paper with the word "CULTURE" on it. I thought to myself how lucky that I could write about culture; I knew there were some really great web sites on the Internet that define culture, making it really easy to write a good essay. I wondered why my teacher was so insistent on having a book source included in our essay. Didn't he know how much easier the Internet was? Oh well, I thought, as the thoughts of my friends and the world around me came back into my mind.
As our class was released, I saw everyone pouring into the halls where they discussed the new assignment. I headed to my study hall in an o...

...unt the words on the page to see if I had made the required 1200. After fifteen minutes I had counted my paper at 1332 words. I made it! My paper was complete and when it was finished, I sat at the table alone in the library. The bell rang and startled me out of my chair. As I jumped out of my seat I released a gasp of air. As I collected myself, I noticed the rushing people passing by in the library and the 22 computers that everyone was working away on. I was back in 2004; but then I thought about all the information I had gathered and how I would have to start my paper over. I looked down in my lap at my notebook. I opened it to the first page and saw my whole paper. I will never know what happened with my paper, but I will always know the meaning of culture. I received an A on my paper and my teacher was very pleased to finally see some books used as a resource.
In Patricia Limerick’s article “Dancing with Professors”, she argues the problems that college students must face in the present regarding writing. Essays are daunting to most college students, and given the typical lengths of college papers, students are not motivated to write the assigned essays. One of the major arguments in Limerick’s article is how “It is, in truth, difficult to persuade students to write well when they find so few good examples in their assigned reading.” To college students, this argument is true with most of their ...
Students, who come from different cultures and backgrounds, are not prepared (especially on their own) to give up everything that they have spent the past eight-teen years believing in, in order to write the perfect college essay.
I recently completed NR 510: Leadership and the Role of the APN. During this class, we thoroughly investigated how the FNP role can vary drastically from state to state. Across the U.S., nurse practice laws and regulations range from allowing a FNP to practice in a reduced or restricted capacity, all the way to having full practice authority and are specific to each state. I found that states also varied in licensure, accreditation, certification, and education requirements. This is often referred to as “LACE”. Prior to this class, I had very limited knowledge on how inconsistent the regulations were in regards to the role of the FNP and their scope of practice.
The primary barrier to nurses being able to practice at their full potential is the states varied legislation (Fairman, Rowe, Hassmiller, & Shalala, 2011). The IOM (2011) report suggests that state scope of practice regulations should model the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Model Nursing Practice act and Administrative rules to provide legal authority to practice to the accomplished level of training. The IOM (2011) report also requested a review of states laws to identify potentially anticompetitive effects that do not protect the health and safety of the public. The new recommendations are to build a common ground with interdisciplinary groups and to include a diverse coalition for the Future of Nursing: Campaign for action (IOM,

The first type of thunderstorm is a single cell storm which is nothing more than an updraft and a downdraft working together to create weather. Single-cell thunderstorms usually pop up out of the blue and only last for a short period of time. Because of the short life span associated with this type of storm they are sometime referred to as a “pulse storm” (1998, Texas weather network). Single cell storms are usually not well formed and happen at random times, which makes them hard to forecast when and where severe weather will occur (n.d., Singlecell Thunderstorms). While a single cell storm only lasts for a short period of time, they are still capable of producing severe weather. Due to the unpredictability of these types of storms the microburst threat to aviation is very serious (n.d., Singlecell Thunderstorms).
The original discussion board post from this author discussed the main issues of education, and scope of practice to be the most prominent issues effecting the practice for FNPs. While the need for quality education and greater access to educational follow-up is still in the forefront of concern for this author, the completion of NSC 842 Advanced Nursing Practice Issues class expanded the knowledge base of these issues. The concerns focus more on the need to regulate educational requirements, and scope of practice issues across the United States. There is a vast difference in the regulations of these issues from state to state. Quality research, and collaborative agreements need to be completed by governing bodies to agree upon a more structured job role and educational/licensure agreement with all
State regulations for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) Practices are different from one state to the other. According to Stout (2007), Texas is one among highly regulated states in the United States (U.S) in comparison to all other states in relation to APRN practices. In the state of Texas, APRN requires physician supervision and prescriptive delegation for an APRN to practice, even though they are qualified with a Masters or doctoral education. The state practice acts,
I stared at the blinking cursor, unbelieving at what I had just done. I was indeed done; done with a paper I agonized over for 6 hours. The paper was due in a scant 4 hours and I had all week to do it. The radio had stopped working because my brother got on the Internet and thus cut off my connection. That was the least of my problems working on this paper. I got it done, though. My life changed with one trip of a teacher to the chalkboard and one phrase, narrative essay. God, I hate narrative essays.
Taking, analyzing, and interpreting patient health histories in order to provide correct diagnoses. Creating individualized treatment plans. Diagnosing and treating acute illness. Monitoring and managing chronic illnesses. Working with patients to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Can prescribe medications. Common practice settings: Private practice. Managed care facilities. Community clinics. College campuses. Research hospitals. University faculty. Licensing and certification: both the American nurses credentialing center (ANCC) and the American academy of nurse practitioners offer NP certification exams. Nurses must also register with the board of nursing in the state where they choose to work. Continue education requirement: certification with the AANP must be renewed every 5
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst, I walked in to English not knowing what to expect. English 111 was boring at times but in many ways helpful. College Composition I main objective is to teach students the fundamentals of academic writing and critical thinking. Aside from learning how to academically write, recognizing grammatical errors, tone, and different styles such as MLA, APA, and CMS, are some other things learned in the course. This essay will be evaluating the book as a whole, self-reflections, essays, my strengths and weaknesses and my professor.
As an amateur reporter for the school newspaper, I have had the opportunity to interview quite a variety of people on many different topics. One of my favorite questions to ask is, "What do you think has had the most influence on American culture?" Why do I like asking this particular question? The answer is simple: the variety and range of responses. While some answers are more interesting than others, I must say that I've learned quite a bit from all of them.
Finally, here I am typing this assignment on the first floor of the library finishing this paper so I’m able to continue onto my college and career journey. I’ve learned so many thing in just the past couple years that’s helped with other situations in my life and I will carry them to help me along with things through the rest of my life; like multitasking, highlighting the important facts, summarizing, communicating, to not be so self conscious, and finally to be successful in pursuing my dreams and going to UNLV and becoming a criminal profiler.
An issue that seems to have always been of concern, yet never fully settled for APNs is that of full practice authority. Full practice authority has been an issue for a long time. APNs have been restricted and held back by legislation for too long. In restricted states APNs are under supervision by both the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners for their corresponding state (Myers, 2013). This causes friction between the two factions for the reason that there is still a great deal of physicians out there that do not truly understand the role of an APN. Due to their inadequate knowledge on the matter of APNs and their role in practice, APNs’ role are being discounted to the general public by having to be under the Board of Medical Examiners supervision and not practice to their autonomous full extent. APNs are subject to minimum of a Masters degree, with option of Doctoral and PhD. With extensive academic education and closely regulated minimum clinical and didactic training hours, APNs are more than qualified to retain full practice authority. Any rule, regulation, or legislature preventing full practice authority is outdated and the author responsible is
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
