Technology Supporting Life on Mars Though the Martian terrain echoes similar features on earth, the overall atmosphere has dramatic differences in which the developed technology plays its role in making this science fiction a reality. The achievement of sustainable life on Mars would be a potential solution towards overpopulation restoring the natural resources, decreased global warming climate changes, reduced habitat loss, etc. Nasa scientist has developed technology that provides the fuel and energy to get to mars and renewable energy sources to power the astronauts need on the red planet, the necessities for living, Technology for Oxygen generation and water recovery, etc. In conclusion with development in technology, it bridges the gap needed …show more content…
Ion propulsion works by electrically charging a gas such as argon or xenon and pushing out the ions at high speeds, about 200,000 mph. The spacecraft experiences a force similar to that of a gentle breeze, but by continuously accelerating for several years, celestial vessels can reach phenomenal speeds. Ion propulsion also allows the spacecraft to change its orbit multiple times, then break away and head for another distant world. This technology allows modern day spacecraft like NASA’s Dawn Spacecraft to minimize fuel consumption and perform some crazy maneuvers. Moreover, the astronauts would be using habitation modules to take shelter such as HERA a self-contained environment that simulates a deep-space habit. The two-story habitat is complete with living quarters, workspaces, a hygiene module and a simulated airlock. Within the module, test subjects conduct operational tasks, complete payload objectives and live together for 14 days (soon planned to increase to up to 60 days), simulating future missions in the isolated environment. On Mars, no drop of sweat, or even urine goes to waste. The Environmental Control and Life Support System recovers
Tracy K. Smith’s “Life on Mars” is a collection of poetry dealing mainly in the search for a sense of purpose and the nature of people. The books is something of an elegy as a whole with many poems pertaining to death and the author’s struggle with the loss of her father. The poems are at once poignant and gentle in tone and leave questions than can only be answered in multiple readings. The book is segmented in four parts that travel through different topics and types of poetry. The mood ranges from passionate accounts of Orwellian politics to soft recollections of a lovers embrace; throughout the book Smith brings in references to pop culture, science, and technology that incorporate seamlessly with her words.
I definitely thought it was quite bizarre, and in the beginning I wasn’t too sure if I agreed with their theories of how the town came to be. Particularly that they are able to hide the secret city on Mars for so long and go in secret on a rocket to outer space seemed so far fetched for me to believe.

“I think humans will reach Mars, and I would like to see it happen in my lifetime” was said by Buzz Aldrin, a NASA astronaut. The former American aeronaut from Montclair, New Jersey believes that since Mars does exist, it is waiting to be reached by humans. When this would happen, he says that the human race would “evolve into a two-planet species.” Present day Mars has a lot of canyons, mountains and volcanoes. Even though the surface is Mars is very old, scientists learned about different younger rift valleys, plains, hills and ridges. According to recent reports, there were lakes and rivers, along with an ocean billions of years ago. The low temperatures on the planet cause there to be polar ice caps and frozen water present. Scientists continue to notice several discoveries on the planet that lead them to think there was once life on the planet. Different clues have scientists wanting to find out about even more. Many scientists in the past few centuries have been curious if life on Mars is possible or if it has ever been before.
Ion and plasma drive are very similar they work electrically accelerating ions or plasma to provide thrust. The speed of the rocket is slow but it would run for much longer time than the nuclear chemical rockets (Tate, 2013).
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched two similar twin robotic rovers, which were Spirit and Opportunity toward Mars on 10 June and 7 July 2003 (NASA 2012). Spirit and Opportunity landed in Gusev Crater on 4 January 2004 and in Meridiani Planum on 25 January 2004 respectively (NASA 2012). Opportunity is still operating and roving after 10 years on the Martian surface while final communication of Spirit to the Earth took place on 22 March 2010, which is around six years into its mission (NASA 2012). The rovers were thought to last 20 times longer as compared to its original design. As part of NASA’s Mars Exploration Program, the Mars Exploration Rover mission is a continuing multi-mission effort to study Mars as a possible habitation for past or present life and to look for signs of life as well as to prepare for human exploration. Primary objective of the Mars Exploration Rover mission is to explore and characterize a wide range of soils and rocks that possess clues or evidences to past water activity on Mars (NASA 2012).
Have you ever looked up in the sky and wondered if there is life elsewhere in the universe? Have you ever looked at a photograph of Mars and wondered if there really was ever life on it? People have a wide variety of opinions regarding these questions and with good reason. As far back as the broadcast of H. G. Well's novel, "The War of the Worlds", the world has been fascinated with the possibilities of what Mars may hold. Over time, the majority of people have come to realize that there is no way that life can currently be on Mars. Those who are uncertain think there may be microscopic bacteria underground.
I have always taken an interest in space travel and what lies beyond or observable universe, or even in it. The private sector company I have chosen for this paper is SpaceX. Currently, this company deals in space transport with an end goal of reducing costs and ultimately, the colonization of Mars. Being that I am highly interested in building mechanical engines, rockets, or anything really that has to do with combustion, SpaceX is currently the leader in making the strongest rockets available, while still managing to maintain a lower cost than their competition. I believe that life on Mars is a possible scenario and with the human species slowly killing off the planet with not much hope in the distant future, a very much necessary
Ion propulsion operates with a high ratio of thrust to fuel consumption, also referred to as high specific impulses, which allows satellites and spacecraft to have higher operational longevity because they are not dependent on large amounts of chemical fuel. Ion propulsion is the result of the ionization of propellant, which occurs through electron bombardment, resulting in the release of electrons to form a positively charged ion. Those ions are later accelerated and form an ion beam out of the craft’s thruster to propel it at a high velocity. Current systems are capable of reaching speeds of 25000 mph, and future systems are being developed to reduce the cost and trip time of future
Until the Dawn mission, spacecrafts were powered on rockets that used chemical reactions to move them through space. Although forceful, rockets were short lived and inefficient. Dawn is powered on ion propulsion, an engine system that uses electricity to push it through space. Ion propulsion allows Dawn to increase to high velocities that are much faster than chemical engines and is a lot more efficient2,3. Because of it’s efficiency, ion propulsion can last for many years longer than a chemical rocket.
1. Organisational processes, systems and structures Mars, Incorporated is the third private enterprises in the United States with net sales of more than $33 billion. Their main business involves Petcare, Chocolate, Wrigley, Food, Drinks, Symbioscience, and there are more than 75,000 Associates worldwide that are putting its Principles into action to make a difference for customers and the society through its performance. The history of Mars Inc has two major axis. One is innovation, the other is to promote the successful experience of innovation to the world.
NASA has been placing their rovers on it to collect all the datas available and pictures. They are also on the seek for extraterrestrial life. It is said that Mars used to have lakes and water, and knowingly, when there’s water, there’s life. The question is, how can life live in such cold and unstable conditions? Many organisms already live on Earth in such extreme, unstable conditions.
Terraforming Mars is the process of purposely changing the known properties of Mars to ensure safe human habitation. In order to do this, we would have to use a 1000-year timeline. A thousand year timeline is best because it gives humans the time needed to change the atmosphere of Mars, change the temperature of Mars, grow food, and more. In order for the terraforming process to work, humans must permanently live on Mars. For humans to permanently live on Mars, a fuel source must be used.
There are many reasons that space exploration should continue. If Earth ever becomes too overpopulated or over polluted, then perhaps people can move to Mars. The world population in 1970 was approximately 4 billion people, and is currently nearly 6 billion people. The world population in 2015 is estimated to be 7 billion people. There is a possibility that there are useful resources on Mars. Scientists have found ice and some other clues, such as craters, volcanoes, and valleys, that have led them to believe that there was once life on Mars, and they believe that sometime in the future, should planet Earth need to be evacuated, humans will be able to live there (Jakosky 142). Many of the rocks on Mars appear to have been formed by gasses, breathable by humans and other creatures. A process called terraforming will allow astronauts to make use of the resources that are on the planet and create an atmosphere that will support life. One method for terraforming is that scientists would convert the gaseous rocks back into gasses, and use gas-eating organisms to eat the gas, which results in the formation of other gasses. If these organisms continue the cycle, then Mars would have a stable atmosphere for humans to live in (Getz 39).
In today’s world, technology is transforming conventional methods of every facet of human life; from the way that we grow our crops, to the way that we communicate with one another. Technology has opened our minds to new ideas and even to new places, such as space exploration. Simply put, technology means applying science toward an objective and the outcome is advancement in modes of construction.
