The advancement of technology has lead to technology being implemented in the social work practice. The implementation of technology within the social work practice has lead to the review and revision of the standards within the social work practice (Goldkind & Wolf, 2015). Also, the implementation of technology has lead to many challenges within the social work practices. Furthermore, supervisors play a key role in guiding social workers on the appropriate use of technology. This paper will depict a case study on ethics, the unethical use of technology, leadership skills, and how culture impacts supervisor and supervisee.
Unethical Use of Technology
The case study on ethics depicts an employee that misused technology in the social work practice (Capella, 2018). The NASW, ASWB, CSWE, & CSWA Standard 2.09 indicates, social workers that provide technology services in practice should establish clear boundaries with their clients (NASW, ASWB, CSWE & CSWA, 2017). Also, Standard 4.05 from the ASWB indicates, social workers should prevent clients from accessing their personal social media sties (ASWB, 2014). Additionally, the ASWB standard 2.06 indicates social workers should inform client and record that an internet search was conducted to obtain information about the client (ASWB, 2014). Overall, as a supervisor it is imperative to be knowledgeable and keep staff informed about policies and practices.
