Techno
Electronic music has been around since the late 60's and is now a very popular type of music among many poeple. My favorite genre of electronic music is Techno. Techno is a hard edge driven dance music that contains electronic sounds, high-energy, and a rhythmic beat. The sounds can range from simple beats of a drum to TV and movie dialogue or siren screams. Around 1986, there was a scene in Detroit which began spinning a futuristic kind of music. The DJ's began experimenting with electronic music and playing it in their clubs. This type of music slowly gained popularity and developed its own sub-genres and underground fan base. The term techno has been used in order to describe many kinds of electronic music.
The first type of techno that was developed was loosely called Minimal Techno or Detroit. It was just a simple rhythm with a small number of eletronic sounds. In my personal opinion, this is not an interesting genre. Although minimal techno was the true budding point of Techno I always thought is was boing compared to other more advanced music that is now available. I would compare it with the relation between a string quartet against the power of a big orchestra.
The next sub-genre is my favorite. Trance is one of the most popular style of Techno at large parties. Trance all started in Germany in the beginning of the nineties at a party called "Age of Love", where DJ Sakin played the first trance song ever: "Protect Your Mind". It was a huge hit and helped trance become one of the most popular forms of techno. The beats in Trance music tend to be louder than in other genres, which makes the music "hotter". The bass often fluxuates between high and low sounds mixed with a dreamy and spacy sound. To be more specific trance music contains many drum climaxes and wavy sounds. Trance music also branched into it's own sub-genres such as Goa. Goa is similar to trance only more psychedelic. It uses more trippy sounds and wibbly noises layered on each other.
Harder versions of techno are kown as Hardcore. Hardcore is aggressive, frenzied, occasionally abrasive, and generally sounds like chaos. About 1992, hardcore evolved in two directions; darkside and happy hardcore. Darkside was more evil sounding and had extremely hard base. In happy hardcore the speed was turned up, cheesey pianos were added, and happy vocals.
A number of other genres, throughout the decade, maintained a significant following. One genre that was slow to start was Hip-Hop, while it emerged in the 1970’s it didn’t become significant until the late 1980’s. Although Classical music began to lose impetus, it gave way to a new generation of composers through invention and theoretical development. The decade was also distinguished for its assistance to electronic music, which rose in reco...

Mental health is not the mere absence of illness but it is the sense of harmony and balance for the individual. Aspects associated with the individual include self-worth, sense of accomplishment, and a positive identity (Fontaine, 2009), where as mental illness is the disharmony someone is experiencing. This disharmony affects not only the individual but their friends and family as well as the surrounding community. This disharmony causes the person to be unable to function properly in many aspects of their life (Fontaine, 2009). Disco Di started to display signs of mental illness from the young age of 12. Her behaviours may have been triggered by a traumatic event and have been interfering with her life ever since. I agree with the diagnosis that Disco Di was given which was an Axis I diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Axis II diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). This paper is going to explain why I agree with these diagnoses as well as genetic and cultural factors and treatment method for them.

...ew Carnival themed parties. It's always wild. And even with the alcohol thats always flowing, the people are in good spirits. There are no drunk guys fighting, just a lot of singing, clapping, and dancing, people just having a good time. I don't think it would be right to say that its the music that does it - but you don't get that same shared spirit at a rock concert, rap concert, etc. It's just a good feeling, the more you listen, the more you play or participate, the more you get it.

Far-fetched as it may sound, Salsa music is named after “salsa” meaning hot sauce in Spanish. The reason could be because of the sweetness of its tunes and moves. It has become one of the most popular genres of music since it emerged in 1960s. It has become common even to the non-Latin countries like Japan and even Sweden. In terms of dance move and styles, it is a modernization of Cuban dance moves. Today Salsa music is popular almost in all parts of the world.

Music and the relationships of music have changed drastically in our society. The music performed by DJs at EDM festivals consist of remixed songs and some that are original. The beats, bass, and rhythms are what people seem to really enjoy about this type of music, myself included. Because EDM is so different from conventional music, it is in some ways, breaking normal conventions that surround “typical” music. For example, some songs focus so much on the bass and sound, that there are no lyrics or singing at all. Although this aspect can be said about other genres of music, EDM is still quite different. Over the past few years, EDM has slowly started to enter mainstream music as well. Perhaps, this has helped with the surge of EDM festival popularity. Although the festivals are now quite large, one of the most popular festivals, EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival), took quite a few years to gain the popularity it has today. The popularity of these festivals has also lead to EDC festivals being held in Europe, Mexico, and other countries.
Heavy Metal music is a genre that has always been seen as music of the devil. This is due to the violence of the instruments and the supposed vehemence behind the lyrics. Heavy Metal music is a branch of rock and roll that began in the mid 1970’s with bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. This style of music is known for an overpowering drumbeat, distorted electric guitar, and clean vocals, with some screaming on the side. Adults and parents have seen such sounds as loud, disruptive, and harmful. However, Jon Pareles wrote in an article for the New York Times that rock and “speed metal” tell teens the truth about the world they live in and shows them that they are not alone in it. “Speed-metal bands strike a chord with millions of teen-agers because they reflect what's on their minds - and the songs tell them they are not alone”. Despite its bad reputation, heavy metal does a world of good for teenagers: it speaks to the dark side of life that most media ignores, and really communicates to teens that they are not forsaken. Heavy metal has been seen as a poison that infiltrates the minds of the youth and cultivates their dark desires; however, the distorted beats and piercing vocals actually represent an asylum for these young adults.
Out of all the various types of music we have studied, I would have to say my favorite type of music would be from the mid to late 60s’, 70’s and 80‘s era. My favorite style of music would be rock& roll. To be specific I am talking about some of the music we studied in unit 12, 13 and 18 of our text book.
