1. Research (McMillan, p.5)
Book Definition: “a systematic process of gathering, interpreting, and reporting information.”
Technical Definition in my words: a recognized and orderly manner of collecting data and organizing, analyzing and explaining the data so others can understand it and base decisions on it.
Example: The survey provided a voluminous amount of data that were analyzed and explained, ultimately adding to the body of research on teaching English to non-English speakers.
2. Quantitative (McMillan, p. 11)

4. Participant (McMillan, p. 95)
Book Definition: “someone from who data are collected”
Technical Definition in my own words: Someone who provides data (either knowingly or unknowingly) for a research study that are also analyzed.
Example: The participants were asked to complete a questionnaire with specific demographic information.
5. Sampling bias (McMillan, p.112)
Book Definition: “sampling error caused by the researcher”
Technical Definition in my own words: Selecting participants for research based on characteristics that might lead to a result that is either unfair or preferred by the researcher.
Example: After further analysis in peer review, it was determined that the data gathered for the research study were deemed unreliably due to sampling bias because the participants were not representative of the overall population.

11. Validity (McMillan, p.131)
Book Definition: “the extent to which inferences are appropriate and meaningful” “an overall evaluation of the extent to which theory and empirical evidence support interpretations that are implied in given uses of the scores”.
Technical Definition in my own words: A judgement about how suitable a conclusion is based on the appropriate collection of data, interpretation of the data and the decisions made resulting from the interpretation of the data. How conclusions reached match up with the statistical and research rigor necessary to reach those conclusions.
Example: Tests such as the SAT have shown a lack of validity in predicting success at the college level for students with English as a Second Language.
12. Reliability (McMillan, p.137)
Book Definition: “consistency of scores” “the extent to which participants and/or rater scores are free from

This would validate the appeals court ruling in favor of the appellant and the reversal of the lower court ruling.
Another confound that may impact the results of this study could be the testing effect. Repeated testing may lead to better or worse performance. Changes in performance on the test may be due to prior experience with the test and not to the independent variable. In addition, repeated testing fatigues the subjects, and their performance declines as a result (Jackson, 2012). Because the professor is interested in determining if the implementation of weekly quizzes would improve test scores, an experimenter and/or an instrumentation effect may also affect results.

Standardized testing scores proficiencies in most generally accepted curricular areas. The margin of error is too great to call this method effective. “High test scores are generally related to things other than the actual quality of education students are receiving” (Kohn 7). “Only recently have test scores been published in the news-paper and used as the primary criteria for judging children, teachers, and schools.”(2) Standardized testing is a great travesty imposed upon the American Public School system.
The origin of the word myth seems to be a myth in itself. Myths have generally originated from a Greek history that used an oral tradition to explain events that occurred before the written word. Often supernatural beings or fictitious characters were used to explain popular ideas concerning phenomena's of nature or the history of people. The myths that were carried on from generation to generation were often very imaginative in an attempt to spark the interest of young listeners. These would be told at social gatherings. The main purpose of a myth was to relay historical information among groups. Early myths often dealt with the origin of man, customs, religious rights, incidents involving the lives of gods, stories of culture heroes, adaptations of old world myths, or the retelling of biblical stories.
However on the other hand, for all advantages; there are disadvantages. In some instances when people utilize and manipulate data, they may knowingly falsify data so that it may adhere to ones beliefs or theories. In addition there are people who may deliberately tamper with information as well. When collecting information, there must be neutrality when assessing and collecting data. Science and Technology has been around from the beginning of time. It evolved from the everyday efforts of people trying to improve their way of life. Throughout history, humankind has developed and utilized tools, machines, and techniques without understanding how or why they worked or comprehending their physical or chemical composition. Before we go any further a definition has to be given for both Science and Technology because they are both different in their own right even though the two are almost indistinguishable. According to the Oxford Dictionary Technology can be defined as the knowledge or use of the mechanical arts and applied sciences, while Science can be defined as the branch of knowledge involving systematized observation and experiment. Science can be further divided into three separate categories; Pure, Applied and Natural Sciences. In addition technology is often defined as applied science, it is simply the application of scientific knowledge to achieve a specific human purpose, however, historical evidence suggests technology is a product of science.
There are few words that possess a positive connotation to the extent that people will become invigorated and inspired just at the mention of it; Success is one of these words that cause an elaborate collaboration of emotions, which is usually summated by the emotions of elated happiness and paralyzing fear. Along with the emotional reverberation that the mere mention of the word causes, it is also plagued by numerous interpretations. Many times the cerebral vision that society pictures when contemplating success is a prodigious amount of money, with luxury cars and private jets to boot; however, this is a very superficial viewpoint of success, and many of the wealthiest people that inhabit the world are also the least successful. The ways that success can be defined are near infinite, but compiling a large sum of physical possessions is definitely not one of them. Success is the participation in activities and recreation that prompt you to live a life enriched with enjoyment, altruism and a feeling that what you have done and are doing in life is helping to benefit the entirety of society.
