Teaching Middle School Students How To Play Soccer

Our unit is on teaching middle school students how to play soccer. The unit is six units overall and we are teaching three of the units to middle schoolers in a physical education class. Teaching soccer to these students promote physical activity, sportsmen like conduct, and an overall sense of self accomplishment. The overall goal is for the students to gain an understanding of the basic rules, soccer positions, and basic soccer skills to successfully learn how to play soccer.

Performance Objectives

That the students must be able to prove they understood what was being asked of them. For this unit the assessments chosen will test our students’ cognitive ability, intellectual ability, and motor skills. When discussing the positions on the field students will figurative become those positions, by doing so allows their mind to see the big picture of how a soccer game is really put together. When they can physically and visually see them, the brain retains the information better and is able to be stored in their long-term memory. Thus, allowing for compete synapsis connection when the information needs to be recalled again. Secondly, to demonstrate they know how to preform a basic free kick maneuver the students’ ability to visualize and understand basic ball handling techniques now as it is happening, allows for the proper understanding of how to kick the ball and the basic physics behind how to execute the movement to carry out the free kick with accuracy. Thirdly, as they gain a better understanding of ball handling through practice and watching the provided videos they can increase their soccer skill set even further. As the students are then introduced to the skill of the knuckleball kick. With these assessments the students need to accurately depict their ability to know soccer field positions, be able to demonstrate a proper free kick, and execute a correct knuckleball kick.
