The Titans were banished to Tartarus by Zeus. They were banished because Cronus which is Zeus’ father was de-throned by Zeus. The Titans fought with Cronus to take back over his throne. But most of the female titans and Prometheus, Metis, and Epimetheus were not banished. Cronus imprisoned the Cyclopes and the Hecatonquiros in tartarus, and the monster Campe guarded them. The character Hades from the Disney movie Hercules is an allusion to Hades from Greek Mythology. The movie takes the traditional character of Hades as the god of the underworld from Greek mythology and makes it palatable for children.

Heaven vs. Hell, this is an important thing in this mythological story told about Theseus. While he was on earth with his wife, ruling over Athens and changing it to a democracy. Theseus was always helping his friends out. He helps his friend defeat the evil Centaur that killed his friend’s wife. Theseus then helps Pirithous to try to get Persephone from Hades and for her to become his wife. Hades ends up defeating them and putting them in a chair of forgetfulness. Therefore heaven vs. Hell fits because he is at peace on earth, then goes to the diabolical world of Hades and gets captured and put into a
Tartarus was not just another realm within the classical world - it was a land beyond Hades, beyond the Underworld, lying as far below hell as the Earth lay below Heaven; is was said that an anvil would fall for nine days before reaching it. It was a land of exile, a prison for those who displeased the current ruling hierarchy of Gods and divine beings. Uranus imprisoned his first children there; the Titans, having overthrown their father, threw the Cyclops into Tartarus - only to take their place once Zeus' rebellion disposed of the despotic giants. It soon became a place of such fear that the mere threa...
In the beginning, it all started with the gods and goddesses Cronus (God of the Sky) and Rhea (Goddess of the Earth). They met and got married. While they were married they produced six offspring. These offspring would turn out to be some of the most famous in mythology. The offspring consisted of Hestia, Hades, Poseidon, Demeter, Hera, and of course, the famous Zeus. Poseidon was the oldest son to be born from these two. Unfortunately when the offspring were born Cronus devoured most, even though Rhea tried many times to keep that from happening. Finally when Zeus was born she tricked Cronus into thinking it was his own son, when handed to him, and he eat him like all the others. But after doing so, Rhea told Cronus that she had given him a stone wrapped up in a blanket. Zeus later overthrew his father and released all of his other kin. After overthrowing Cronus, Zeus took over the ruler of the kingdom. With him taking the thrown on Mt. Olympus, he chose Hades to rule the underworld and Poseidon to look after the sea and land. Poseidon was a very powerful god and ruled with fury. He was made the god of waters in general and of the sea in particular (1). He is an equal in dignity to Zeus but not in power. This is important because it does not allow Poseidon to question his br...
... All of these differences between the two authors contributed to the different visions of the underworld in The Odyssey and Dante’s Inferno. There is no doubt that the two different descriptions of the underworld share many traits, nevertheless, the differences outweigh the similarities. Hell primarily focuses on punishing sinners; the House of Death does not. In fact, Odysseus meets many more people who are not being punished, than those who are.
Zeus stopped the fight against his eldest brother and asked Hades why he fought him for 7 days if he knew he was bound to lose, Hades said to Zeus ,“ My dear brother I would love to be the ruler of this kingdom but I just cannot defeat you. You are way to young and powerful for me, I shall go back down to my world where I belong and rule the Underworld.” As Hades traveled back to the underworld he thought to himself he doesn’t need to run two kingdoms to be powerful I will be the best King of the Underworld I can
Hundred- Handed Ones. Uranus let the Titans roam free, but he imprisoned the Cyclopes and the Hundred- handed Ones beneath the earth. Finally, Gaea could not bear Uranus's unkindness to the Cyclopes and the Hundred-Handed Ones any longer. Gaea joined Cronos, one of the Titans; and together, they overcame Uranus, killed him, and threw his body into the sea.
The ancient Greeks portrayed the underworld as a place for all the dead and clearly visualized it in their myths and legends. The underworld in Greek mythology was not a lively place, for it was where all the dead souls went. When a person dies, the soul is sent to Hades, a more formal name for the underworld. The dead would go to Hades because there was no annihilation in the Greek mythology. The dead are dead because they have a flavorless and unhappy existence".
Cronus and Rhea are the parents of Poseidon in Greek mythology. Poseidon is one of the 3 sons; the others are Hades and Zeus. And there three sisters were Demeter, Hestia, Hera, and while Cronus was the horrible father who feared his own children so he ate them at birth. He continued to eat the newborns until his wife tricked him by giving him stones instead to save Zeus. But sadly Poseidon (and Hades) was eaten by Cronus to save them Zeus (who was being raised by nymphs) became Cronus’ cupbearer. He poisoned Cronus and he threw up Poseidon. They started a war against Cronus it lasted for ten years until the brothers released the Cyclopes and in return they gave the each a weapon. Poseidon received a trident, Zeus a lightning bolt, and Hades the helmet of darkness.
When Zeus grew up, and with the help of Gaea and his mother Rhea, he slipped Cronus a potion that made the Titan disgorge the swallowed children. Being gods, they were unharmed, albeit a tad dazed and confused. With Zeus serving as their leader, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera waged war against the Titans for supremacy of the Universe.

His siblings were Epimetheus, Atlas and Menoetius. Prometheus was avery well adored by the Zeus due to his intelligent and creative mind. The myth narrates how the Zeus declared to he was to become the ruler of the world and overthrow Cronos, who was the sovereign of the Titans and the ruler of the world. Typhoeus was considered the most dangerous, most feared, and certainly the most deadly monster of them all. Only challenged by Zeus himself, Typhoeus struck fear into the hearts of all, and even nearly defeated Zeus. The father of many monsters and a Greek God, trapped under Mount Etna, is by far the most powerful monster of all
The Underworld, better known as Hades after the god who ruled it, was a dark and dreary place where the shades, or souls, of those who died lived. In the next few minutes, I will tell you about how one came to die, the topography of the Underworld, and the beings whom dwelled there.
Both cultures had a king of the gods. In Greek mythology there is no god who is more powerful than Zeus. He is the youngest son of Cronus and Rhea, ruler of the Titans. Cronus was told that one of his children would overthrow him, taking control of his kingdom. To be sure this would not happen, Cronus swallowed his first five children: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon. Rhea could not bear to see another one of her children, devoured so she replaced Zeus with a rock wrapped in swaddling. Cronus, thinking he ate Zeus, left Rhea time to leave Zeus in a cave where he was raised by a divine goat, Amaltheia (pantheon/odin). After Zeus was grown he went back to Cronus with the help of Gaia and Metis, who made an elixir to cause Cronus to vomit his brothers and sisters. Zeus then led the fights against the Titan dynasty. Afterwards they banished the Titans to Tartarus, the lowest place on earth, even lower than the underworld. Zeus and his brothers then drew straws to find who would rule where. Zeus gained rule of the sky, Poseidon ruled the seas, and Hades ruled the underworld (pantheon/odin).
