Just about four years ago, my family and I were camping at Bahia Honda Key State Park. Every day we would walk to the marina in the park and see the fishermen with all their latest and greatest fishing gear reeling in some of the biggest tarpons I'd ever seen Tarpon are a breed of fish who primarily reside in Florida’s waters. Tarpon are among the most desirable fish to catch down In Florida. They can weigh up to 280 pounds, and can be as long as 8 feet! Me, my brother, and my dad all enjoyed fishing, but we never considered ourselves pros. We never thought we could reel in a tarpon.
We resided in a pop-up camper during our three-month stay, so there was no air conditioning and almost no entertainment on our campsite. I remember a particular

My dad said to me that I could take the net if I wanted to, but he wasn’t going to carry it all the way to our fishing spot. I took the net anyways and carried it with me on the concrete path leading to our spot that was so hot that the top layer of this concrete had become an odd blackish goo that stuck to your shoes. We had finally arrived at our spot. It was an abandoned marina that not a lot of people knew about. We had made a makeshift motorboat out of our two small kayaks and a small Suzuki motor, it was the only boat in the …show more content…
As we pulled the last shrimp out of our bubbling bait bucket, me and my brother, Bennett, began to laugh, but my Dad just looked disappointed. We thought that the shrimp before this one looked wimpy, but this one was so small that it was hard to know if it really even was a shrimp at all. We hoped for the best and cast it back into the crowd. We got the same result, the fish instantly bit and jumped. Except for this time, our line hadn’t snapped. The fish violently jerked at my dad’s rod for about five minutes until it had jerked off almost half the line on our rod. The string on our rod was half strong/expensive string and the other half cheap/flimsy string. We saw the knot connecting the strong string to the weak string whiz by, and we realized that this string could snap any second. My brother and I steered the boat back into the dock while my dad and the fish were still at war. As we pulled in, I jumped into the glistening warm water and climbed up the barnacle infested concrete wall to grab the net that my dad suggested I not take. I grabbed the net and dove back in onto our flimsy yellow boat, almost tipping it over. My dad had reeled in the fish, so I scooped it up with our net. We saw that it was a 4-foot long silver tarpon and we were so happy! After a few pictures, we happily tossed him back into the glistening sea and waved goodbye. We couldn’t wait to tell everyone about our
The issue of Maine lobster fishing is an ideal case illustrating the challenge of the "tragedy of the commons", since the lobsters belong to no one until caught. They have been harvested commercially in New England (the "birthplace" of the nation’s fisheries) since the 1800’s. At that time, they "were so plentiful they could be caught by hand or, with less hazard (because the average lobster was so large), with a gaff, a pole with a large hook stuck in the end" (Formisano, 13).
My friend had invited me along with him and his family to the ocean. It was vacation for the family, but for him and me it was the beginning of a week of serious business. We had an obsessive hobby to pursue. As avid and long-term freshwater fisherman, we were thrilled by the thought of catching those large and exotic saltwater fish we had seen on television a billion times before. Yet little did we expect there to be such vast differences between our freshwater fishing and the saltwater fishing, which we were about to pursue. We learned through trial and much error that in order to have a successful saltwater fishing experience we had to make adjustments to all the freshwater tackle, tactics, and gear we knew.
...trength completely fails and he lets go and starts to drown and sink. to not save him but to continue to paddle and get to safety. I hold back tears with fire and brimstone and I start to paddle as if the devil were behind us even though I am feeling drained as well. After about another hour or so it seems we start closing in and my father feels sand brush his feet. We both let out a huge sigh of relief as my father finally touches the bottom. still being about a quarter mile from the shore we do sort of a “Island hop” with the sand patches and we make our way back from where we came. Once we get back we decide thats enough beach for the day and go home. Feeling victorious and defeated at the same time I still hold a scar within me. and within that scar there is a small dark hole within me that is afraid of the ocean. And to this day I fear I will forever be afraid.
My first fishing experience was with my dad and my older brother when I was seven. Driving up to the creek, walking through the muddy path on the twisting dirt road. I could feel my dad’s pride
My uncle saw me and rushed over with his net to help me reel the catfish, we wrestled with the catfish for a couple of seconds before we finally got it on the dock. Whenever I saw the catfish my eyes got wide; it was the albino catfish. I warned my uncle about how special this catfish was to Tim and we try quickly to get the hook out of the catfish’s mouth and get it back in the pond, but before we could Tim came out.
The second fish that Mr. Johnson snagged was a black marlin. He fought and fought with the fish until his arms went numb. After a couple of minutes, the fish took the rod, the real, and the line. Harry wanted Mr. Johnson to pay for the tackle that he lost, but Mr. Johnson ran off without paying.
“Man masters nature not by force but by understanding. This is why science has succeeded where magic failed: because it has looked for no spell to cast over nature”. From the beginning of time man and nature has been in conflict with one another because, as a whole, there is no cooperating. Each one tirelessly wants its way. The Man is fighting for dominance and nature w never yielding its authority. In American Literature, many authors illustrate this theme in their writing. Specifically the writers Jack London in The Law Of Life, Stephen Crane The Open Boat and Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Fin. Each explores the relationship between humans and nature but with slightly different methods. Mark Twain uses nature in a realistic way, Jack London in a naturalistic way and Stephen Crane constitutes a combination of both.
Every day, more and more attempts of banning books and taking away the rights of our First Amendment get violated. The challenging of a book is the attempt to remove or restrict materials, and the banning is the removal of these materials. I believe that books should not be banned for these reasons.
They made a mess of their whole entire house and mother's dress. With no remorse or regret they continued to do what they were doing. Before this occurred, the Fish was infuriated. He shouted "No! No! Those Things should not be in this house!
Every person has wondered about something - whether it be a person, place, thing, law, or anything that someone can think about. They ask questions both rhetorical and actual to themselves, and usually make it a mission to answer these questions. Some of the biggest questions have something to do with culture and religion. One of the most major questions of all time - to what extent does an individual have control over the outcome of his or her life? There are many different opinions on this topic.
In May of 2006, Gallup Poll found that sixty-nine percent of Americans answered yes to the question "When a person has a disease that cannot be cured, do you think doctors should be allowed by law to end the patient's life by some painless means if the patient and his family request it?”. Assisted suicide is suicide committed by someone with assistance from another, usually a physician. Supporters of the Death With Dignity law believe that anyone should be able to take the lethal pill if he or she has a terminal illness and only has six months or less to live. This is legal in the three states of Oregon, Washington, and Montana. Assisted suicide should be legal in California.
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
For those who are curious about fishing, but never seem to have any luck, here are a few simple guidelines to follow which will have you reeling them in in no time. Catching fish can be really easy to do if one has the correct equipment, location, weather, and presentation.
First off you have got to get the right pole to catch this beast. Not just any regular pole will work, it would snap in the matter of seconds. You have to have a fixed real to hold the extra weight plus a special rod that can hold the weight also. Generally these poles will be longer ranging from 7 to 10 feet long. Not only must you get a special pole, but you must also have extra strength line. Usually a line will break at about
It is very rare for a fish to die from a catch-and-release incident. Normally when a fish dies or is injured it has something to do with the fish internally, or it is kept out of the water for too long. As long as you release the fish once the
