Dance helps clear your mind and lets you have fun with moving your body. There are many styles, so different from each other, but they make people come together and create something words can’t explain. Different styles of dance need sharp and intense movement and some need soft, smooth, and emotional movement. Dance shows people the real you without expressing verbally. You become strong and more confident dancing as an individual and when you dance with a group everyone feels like they could accomplish everything as a team. Tap is a very unique dance and is like no other style around, Ballet is the core of dance and you really become strong internally, lyrical is the newest style of dance and has very dynamic movement that makes your mind …show more content…
Dancers wear a shoe with a heel and toe metal part screwed into the shoe. The metal clangs on the floor and makes a sounds equivalent to a drum. Back then “tap dancing evolved from mixture of cultures and peoples, specifically African American slaves” (www.tap-dancing-its-all-in-the-feet.html). Tap dancing contains rapid and high speed movement of the feet, which Broadway uses a lot. Tap originated from a dance called clog dancing from England and jigs and reels from Ireland. Tap stared to get popular at the beginning of the 1900’s, but “in the 1950’s, the style of entertainment changed. Jazz music and tap dance declined, while rock and roll music and the new jazz dance emerged. Many tappers wanted to bring back the uniqueness of tap after the years of decline. Two movie makers were hearing about the issue so they came up with the movie “Happy Feet”. This movie was such a success more and more dance teachers saw people coming in to learn to tap. Tap dancing will always be the outlier of dancing technique because there is no other dance type like …show more content…
Your emotions tell the story along with a slow and saddening song. Many dance instructors have said lyrical is a class little kids should take. Lyrical helps young, old, and any body type train to become powerful and fierce. With the natural and smooth movement it helps dancers find their self-identity. The founding of lyrical has been hard to find out, but Cirque Du Soleil has been using pieces of lyrical in their routines. “Lyrical dance gained its name not because the lyrics of a song are indeed sometimes highlighted over the rhythm, but because of the meaning of the word lyrical: having a poetic, expressive quality, musical, characterized by or expressing spontaneous, direct feeling; expressing deep personal emotions or observation; highly rhapsodic or enthusiastic.”(www.danceconnectionsrochester.com/dance/lrical-dance). The technique for lyrical is hard and it tells how a story ends bad or good. Even though lyrical goes with slow songs the movement can sometimes be at rapid speed showing more and more emotion as the dance piece goes
According to dancemotionusa.org tap dance originated from the West African dances and certain influences from the British Isles. All throughout the 20th century tap dance began to gain popularity. It seems that tap dance started as something that slaves did to express themselves. Dancemotionusa.org stated that, “White slave masters banned the use of drums, which they considered a tool for organizing revolution. This led to people into making rhythms with their bodies-specifically, their feet.” Another way we know that tap dance has evolved is that before they would attach pennies to their heels and soles in order to retain the rhythmic sounds of their dance (pg.81). Now, tap shoes have a metal attached to the heel. Tappers do not have to attach pennies to the bottom of their shoes anymore. Tap dance has also adapted new moves and expanded into other forms of dance. An example, countless of people have combined ballet and tap dance together—creating a flawless routine. In addition, some of today’s upcoming tappers are: Michelle Dorrance, Anthony Morigerato, Daniel Leveille, Aaron, Alexis, and Curtis. Overall, tap dancing has come a long way and in my opinion it has not lost its meaning.
The fast foot work in both Black Bottom and in tap dancing showed the similarities of the styles of dance. Although tap dance is less about the upper body, unlike Black Bottom and dances like the Charleston, and more about the movement of the feet and sound of the taps, there were obvious similarities between Black Bottom and tap. Tap dance and Black Bottom are fairly similar, only by adding metal plates to the bottom of shoes, creating “tap shoes”, the new style of dance was born. This style of dance however, focusing on the lower body movements and the sounds the tao shoes are making when they stick across the floor, is less about the movement of the arms and upper
One form of dance that influenced modern tap is the English Lancshire clog. This is a dance that uses percussive shoes. The earliest forms of these shoes had copper pennies nailed or tacked to the bottom to create a sound that was light and clicking. The way that the pennies were applied in a triangular pattern on their shoes is still used in tap shoes today for the positioning of the screws on the taps (“Tap Dance” par. 3).
Dance is a type of sport that usually involves movement of the body, often carried out to different types of music depending on the style. Dance is practiced in many cultures as a form of expression or social relations in a spiritual or performance setting, and is even used to express certain beliefs and ideas. Dance does not have traceable roots and it is not possible to say when exactly dance became a part of culture, but historical evidence shows that dance has been an important aspect of rituals, services, revels, and entertainment since the ancient developments. Since dance was discovered, it has become prevalent. Many different forms and styles of dance are used all around the world today including ballet, swing, hip-hop, and even the tango and salsa.

The first major figure’s in ballet according to the textbook name is Catherine de’ Medici. Some of this equipment includes soft ballet shoes and pointe shoes. A pointe shoe, which is one key element of ballet, is a shoe used by dancers to dance on the tips of their toes. However, intense training is necessary to learn and maintain the skills for this kind of dance. The first pointe dancers used a regular soft shoe to go en pointe, thus the technique was used sparsely due to its difficulty. Later on, the first pointe shoes were made, but they only came in one size. The pointe shoe, which has been perfected over the years, now provides a sturdy base for the dancer’s feet. Despite this, almost all dancers require padding for their toes, medical tape to minimize blisters, and/or other products used to lessen the stress on the feet while dancing. Additionally, each pointe shoe is handmade. When a dancer gets a new pair of pointe shoes, they must sew the elastic and ribbon onto the shoe themselves and “break in” the shoe. Breaking in a pointe shoe prepares it for dancing by making it more pliable and comfortable. After sewing the ribbon and breaking in a shoe, the pointe shoe is ready to be used
The topic I decided to choose to conduct my Capstone Research on is Copyright in Choreographic Works. Choreography is “Choreographers use dance performances to express ideas and stories. There are many types of dance, such as ballet, tango, modern dance, tap, and jazz (bls.gov). Choreography is also something that should be made from the heart, it’s not something that should be taken from someone else because at that point, it wouldn’t be considered your choreography and it wouldn’t be something you made from your own mind and creativity. Dancing is something you have a passion for and you show your emotions through your movements, so there shouldn’t be a need to copy. The problem now is, many choreographers are starting to steal choreography
Also as our book says, “Tap and jazz dance, Broadway and Hollywood dance, and hip-hop are considered truly American arts, though often they draw from older from and other cultures”. In our videos there were two people inspired by choreographer Bob Fosse. First was Michel Jackson, which was pretty weird to see him do most of the moves that I thought were Jackson’s moves. And than Beyonce,
A question that has pondered for a myriad of years: how does one develop the vision of choreography in the mind and transfer it to human bodies? Choreographers try to explain this question through the pieces that they develop over the years. Their pieces “must be part of an organic whole, supporting the story, characters, and the overall artistic intent” (AACT). The Encyclopedia of Britannica defines choreography as “an art of creating and arranging dances”. The word is derived from the Greek words to “dance” and “write”. Modern day choreographers were asked to define the choreography in one word like the ancient Greeks derived it from. The words that they described choreography as were: art, movement, creativity, planning, and expressions
Dance is a universal expression. People can easily tell stories or express how they feel through this form of art. Just like an instrument, dancing is how a dancer makes music. In general dancing has changed throughout time. How we dance now is not how it was done in the fifties and sixties. Like music dance evolves according to what is popular. Something is constantly being added to all of the different genres of dance. Although there are many different styles of dances in the world, there are some that are more popular: Zumba, Ballet, Salsa, and the most popular, Hip Hop.
... emotionally or physically. Dance is a great way to express yourself when you are happy sad, excited, gloomy, or just to make yourself better. So how does dance benefit me? Dance benefits me in many ways. Physically, mentally and socially. Physically dance benefits me by giving me an exercise, improving my health, and creating superfluidity in the brain. Mentally dance creates a creative outlet and it can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Socially dance benefits me by making a place where people can meet and create new friendships.
The Northern Territory is known for its culturally diverse population and some would say it is the ‘multicultural hub’ of Australia. With all of these cultures comes distinctive customs and traditions. Throughout history dance has been used to help people develop a sense of identity, the younger generations are also taught social patterns and values through the different dances. The significance of these traditional dances was to reinforce and celebrate cultural law and practices including the celebration of the passage from child to adulthood or spiritual worship. The predominantly Western culture in Australia often causes minority groups to struggle for recognition regarding their beliefs and traditions. This is parallel to the Australian dance industry, where many cultural dance groups feel they have to justify who they are and are often
To many, dance is only an art. In reality, dance is much more. It 's an art, a sport, a way to express one’s self, a way to exercise, a way to get feelings out. Since the beginning of time, humans have used different types of dance to express themselves. There are many advantages to dancing, however there are also some disadvantages. Dance is one of the most physically and cognitively demanding sports.
