In 1914, Murasaki Shikibu's extended prose The Tale Of Genji was published and was considered the world's first literary work. This fantastic literary work addresses a topic that has been discussed since the earliest times until today, love. This feeling is an inexhaustible theme because of the multitude of feelings included in one single concept. It seems that love is simple but in reality, it has many facets. This love story takes place in times when there were various prejudices about who should be the other half of a noble person. However, love is available to anyone, and it does not matter if a person is rich or poor because love is a pure feeling that cannot be influenced by the material world. Usually, happiness is the ultimate goal …show more content…
For the most part, even if is going up this is an easy climb because a person obtains the feeling of happiness through small things that are available to anyone. For example, love is available to anyone and by giving or receiving an individual feels unexplainable happiness. However, even if an individual achieves happiness through small things, for some individuals, the emotional rollercoaster is influenced by specific contexts which can affect the reach of a climax where one finds happiness. One of these contexts is the social position that one of the partners may have. For example, an individual with a high social position must face the social pressure that tries to deflect its way by placing obstacles in the way toward happiness. Consequently, a person seeking happiness removes these obstacles and makes choices that are dictated by his subconscious opposing all prejudices. The author reveals, "In a certain reign there was a lady not of the first rank whom emperor loved more than any other" (Shikibu, 148). Therefore, an individual's desire for happiness is more potent than societal rules that are meant to guide his life. He listens to his inner voice and continues his journey because he wants to be in harmony with himself. Happiness that comes from the love for other and itself is the product of heart and mind. Although every love story is an emotional rollercoaster with similar emotions, these feelings are not easy to understand by those who are not directly involved. For example, happiness originates from different sources for every person and as a result is perceived uniquely. Also, every person is aware of how strong the desire for happiness is in is perception and what is willing to do to obtain it. Similarly, the pain is felt and lived differently by every person, and the depth of that pain cannot be expressed in fixed parameters even if it originates from a common cause. Moreover, last but not least restlessness is a feeling that takes over any person who tries to abandon an emotional rollercoaster that has come to an end. All these feelings cannot be described in the same manner for everyone because every individual has a unique perception that cannot be duplicated. Although love can be complicated, is a feeling that will never disappear because this ability to feel emotions is deeply rooted in human
Before we look into specifics, we’ll examine the history and development of “happiness” as a philosophy. Of course, the emotion of happiness has always existed, but it began to be seriously contemplated around 2,500 years ago by philosophers like Confucius, Buddha, Socrates and Aristotle. Shortly after Buddha taught his followers his Noble Eight Fold Path (which we will talk about later), Aristotle was teaching that happiness is “dependent on the individual” (Aristotle).
In modern day society, it is common for marriage to be an act between two lovers. However, historically many cultures practiced a marriage where love had no correlation. Murasaki Shikibu brilliantly presents this ideal in her book, The Tale of Genji. This work of Japanese fiction takes place during the Heian Period. In this time, marriage was often used to help people alter their social status. This is best demonstrated through the marriage between Lady Aoi and Hikaru Genji. The marriage bonding Aoi-no-ue and Genji, may have been a normality of the time, but that does not mean it was easy. Genji struggles with balancing his marriage to Aoi-no-ue and his true love, Murasaki-no-ue throughout the novel. Though the intentions of the marriage were pure, the unhappy marriage is the result of the unhappiness for both Aoi-no-ue and Murasaki-no-ue.
Love and affection is an indispensable part of human life. In different culture love may appear differently. In the poem “My god my lotus” lovers responded to each other differently than in the poem “Fishhawk”. Likewise, the presentation of female sexuality, gender disparity and presentation of love were shown inversely in these two poems. Some may argue that love in the past was not as same as love in present. However, we can still find some lovers who are staying with their partners just to maintain the relationship. We may also find some lovers having relationship only because of self-interest. However, a love relationship should always be out of self-interest and must be based on mutual interest. A love usually obtains its perfectness when it develops from both partners equally and with same affection.
to love, money makes no matter, be it past, present or future. Love is love, and
Love is a concept that has puzzled humanity for centuries. This attachment of one human being to another, not seen as intensely in other organisms, is something people just cannot wrap their heads around easily. So, in an effort to understand, people write their thoughts down. Stories of love, theories of love, memories of love; they all help us come closer to better knowing this emotional bond. One writer in particular, Sei Shōnagon, explains two types of lovers in her essay "A Lover’s Departure": the good and the bad.
“Power, riches, honor, even health, and the general well-being and contentment with one’s condition which is called happiness, all inspire pride and often presumption if there is not a good will to correct the influence of these on the mind, and with this to rectify also the whole principle of acting
There is a plethora aspects of love. Love can make you feel a lot . Love is intangible. You or your partner can feel stressed, confused, or sad. On the other hand, love can be amazing and you can feel happy, excited, overjoyed etc.
...he sweat and painstaking talent artists put into a piece of art. Likewise, when an onlooker sees a couple in love, how are they to distinguish whether it is true love or merely youthful, immature love? For this reason, only experienced lovers are capable of detecting true love in others. The potential beauty of love is held at the mercy of the two lovers. Thus the extent to which the love will mature depends on the unpredictable course the journey of love takes throughout its progressive stages. As with a painting, at it’s beginning, love has the potential to be something powerful and immortal. Easy love is happy, immature love. For love to be deep and meaningful, it must face challenges and overcome adversity. Love is the artwork of nature. Like the beautiful and serene calm after a vicious storm, love is often dangerous and uncomfortable before it can be lovely.
But in this debate, one question still raises its head - What is happiness? Happiness is not actually leading a luxurious life, but the luxury of living a life. Happiness is not actually about expanding your business, but it lies in expanding the horizons of life. Happiness is not having a meal in the most famous restaurant, but having it with your most beloved family. It does not lie in attending honorable parties, but to attend a party with honor.
