Conflict Theory In sociology, conflict theory occurs under the normal functioning society, due to the different social groups are under a different power, wealth and society treatment situation, resulting in conflicts between groups. These conflicts and arise revolution, political changes and/or other social changes. Conflict theory emphasizes the conflict between different social groups is the main driving force of social changes. As conflicts occurs so often in the society, it has attracted extensive attention of a lot of social theorists in the late 1900s. After 1940s, structural functionalism representatives such as Talcott Parsons emphasizes the value orientation of the society and how it can be used to maintain social integration, and stabilizing the social order, seeing conflicts as the “ill” of the society, seeking a system that can minimize the conflicts. In the mid 1950s, following the fade of World War II and the growth of conflicts, some sociologists has starting to question the accuracy of Parsons’ theory. The conflict theory point of view sees how conflicts occurs when western competitive sports and eastern traditional sports goes from a mutual isolation to interactive. The conflicts exists between them were represented by the difference between traditional and modern; inheritance and development; and absorption and exclusion (of the sports). It is the difference between giving and taking, these conflicts resulted in the power of dissent between the developing eastern world and western world. Therefore each of them has emphasized more into the characteristics, the way of existing and the way of presenting of their culture.
